  1. Thanks everyone. I'm very happy it waited for me to be with him instead of me looking in the woods worrying about him. In my mind this is the way he would have wanted to go but not the time he would have wanted to go. I figured he would still have a few more years of hunting with me. I dropped the deer head off at the taxidermy today so that my aunt can have something to remember his last day on earth was. I'm having a good friend of his make a state of missouri board to put behind him because he always talked about it but never did get one like that. I always thought the worst part of anything in this situation would be giving CPR as I've gone through training several times but it's calling his love ones and telling them what happened. He had two other daughters that I didn't notify until after his wife knew. Just happened he had 3 of his daughters with her. Thomas that sucks he has cancer. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like he wanted everyone to be by him when he told you guys.
  2. Friday night we went out to dinner like we always do before opening day. Same place we go every year the day before season. Saturday morning around noon he wanted to go to lunch but I had deer in front of me so I told him to go to the truck without me. I ended up going about an hour later I decided to go to the truck hoping I could talk to him to see what he saw this morning but he was already back in the woods. So I ate a quick lunch and headed back out. Around 3 I heard a shot from his general area so I turned the radio on for him to tell me he shot a 10 pointer. I told him that we would drag it out when it gets dark out because it was actually cold enough this deer season to leave them out. I didn't see one big enough to shoot. Walked out and drove my truck to where he was at. We walked down the hill to start dragging out his deer. I am 26 and he is 61 so I do the most of the dragging. I made him take breaks and he even laid down for 5 minutes about half way there. After the half way mark I dragged his head and he grabbed the back legs so they wouldn't get caught on anything and did the last half of the drag that way. By the time we made it to the fence of the pasture I made him take another break as I dragged him closer to the truck. I jumped up into the truck and grabbed his antlers and was able to pull most of him in until the back half where I needed his help again. We got him in and we were both tired but were always joking around like always have. Even when we were dragging him he would tell me to slow down because I was doing most of the work and I would always say "so what's new" and "well it's a good thing you shot another little one" even though he would always get a nice one every year with me. We were at the truck when I told him "you smell like dung" as he did clean a deer and where the deer ran is where the farmers put their dead cattle so of course you can imagine that smell. We hopped into my truck and as I was driving threw the pasture he started making a snoring sound right away thinking he just fell asleep but that was never like him. About 5 seconds later he started jerking his body uncontrollably and the race was on to get to the farm house as fast as possible. By the time I got 45 seconds away from the house he passed out. I ran inside and called 911 and the farmer came out to asset the situation as I was pulling him out of my truck to start CPR. I did CPR for around 20 minutes until the ambulance showed up and ems to take over. However I feared the worse. They were there for about 20 minutes before they left to go to the hospital and I was following. They didn't have the lights on. They weren't going fast so I was expecting the worst. When we got to the hospital they put me and the farmer in a different room and told us the bad news that he passed away. I already had told his wife and 3 of his daughters that we were going to the hospital and they needed to be here. I didn't tell them as they were heading up to give them a little bit of hope for the 2 hour car drive. But when they showed up the priest met with them at the door and they lost it. They knew what had happened. I share this story because I want people to realize that anytime during deer season can be dangerous. We always said rifle season is the scariest of them all but this could have happened anytime during bow season with us. We even talked the night before about getting a 4 wheeler so it wouldn't be hard on us dragging them out. Our family has have heart conditions ever since I can remember. So if you are an older hunter dragging out a deer take your time. Take breaks. And if need be ask for help from neighboring farms. It's not worth losing a love one over. And I'm not trying to say if he didn't drag out the deer it might not have happened but you never know. He was my uncle, a father figure to me, but mostly he was one of my best friends. We would always hunt and fish together more than I have with anyone else. He would always be there for me and I would always be there for him. RIP Vince
  3. If you want to get some airing up on the Mississippi I know a few good spots. Bring a tent and we'll camp on the conservation island.
  4. Called operation game theft and nothing happened. Even told the lady I talked to on the phone if he met me at the ramp I would take him to them but never got a call back. And yes he was one of those. I honestly think the conservation doesn't care about Taney as soon as bow season starts but that just might be what I'm thinking and what I see from being there off of deer season and during deer season.
  5. Snaggers aren't as bad as the people who use cheese worms or power bait up there. I launched my boat at the ramp up there when they turned on 3 units and there were 3 other boats. Two of them had guides and 1 other boat was just regular people. One boat who had guides were using worms and the regular boat using power bait. They were keeping them being in violation of the slot limit and the power bait guys kept one that was 22". They were going right up to the darn and doing this too.
  6. 160 miles. I'm in O'Fallon, MO.
  7. Dry as a can be in there with no signs of old water. Maybe just a relay ? Checked the bow and that was dry also. I even unplugged it and still would trim down without hitting the button.
  8. So I have a 2000 Johnson 50 and had it out the last 5 days and worked flawlessly. However when I was heading home we hit a huge rainstorm. When we stopped in Rolla to eat there was a loud buzz so I went back there to figure out the buzzing sound was my trim going down even with the transom saver on. So I pushed the trim to go up to try to stop it and it went right up and stopped. As soon as I hit trim down it would go down but not stop after I would let go of the button. At first I thought it was maybe a short in the control on the motor but it would do it when I would use the throttle trim button and the other up front. Idk much about boat electronics but any help would be nice. If I need to post a video I can if need be. Thanks
  9. Bluegill and goldfish is all I have used this year. Caught some nice ones including a 40lb flat and biggest blue was 62lbs.
  10. I've been checked fishing twice in 10 years now that I have needed a license. The first time I was 18 fishing the meramec by dry fork and the second time was about 1 am on a Thursday night at a mdc boat ramp two agents Chris (I was always told he is head of St. Charles Co) and a woman I have never seen before and asked to see mine and the other two that were on the boats licenses. Asked if we kept any fish and when we said no he didn't even check my live well. Been checked hunting 5 times. Twice on private property while turkey hunting (were carrying the birds) and 3 times on the road for deer. Got a warning for not having our new transporting tags on a deer.
  11. When fishing big rivers like that bluegill, goldfish, skip jack on 7/0 hooks. When fishing smaller rivers we use sonnys.
  12. It seems like the average price on lake Hamilton for private down here is around $15 which I thought was way too high.
  13. Renting a boat tomorrow to try and get some strippers on lake ouachita. We shall see. Volunteered work today to pay for the rental tomorrow.
  14. Dang. I'm pretty sure att won't let me put a boat behind my work van.
  15. What's your limit in $$$? Waders can get expensive but you get what you pay for.
  16. For 3 weeks for work. Idk what kind of fishing gear to bring down yet. What is good down there to fish for? I tend to fly fish and bass fish more than anything.
  17. If you go plan on going at the siren. Was there yesterday and fishing was tough. Lot of people were catching on black and yellow rooster tails. But by 10ish there's hardly any fish in the stream. They are small. I fished the park for the first 30 minutes and then went down to the river and did good for down there.
  18. This is sad reading this. Snakes are good! I'm not saying if you see a venomous snake in a campsite with kids not to kill it. However when I see venomous snakes out on the prairie or woods I keep them alive. I can't tell you how many times fishing public streams that I have moved harmless snakes away from people who think they are a copperhead and want to kill it. But like I said I'll kill a venomous snake in a heavy populated area with kids just because I don't want them to be bit. When they are interested I will pick them up to show them what to look for when they see a snake. And generally the worse snake I pick up is a rat snake. They are vicious. Rule of thumb. Treat snakes like a gun. They can be dangerous and they don't mix with alcohol.
  19. Well considering most newer trucks cost that much might as well get what you want. Sticker on my truck was low 40s that's a hemi. Not even close to what I paid though.
  20. http://fox13now.com/2014/07/09/aerial-assault-this-is-how-utah-restocks-fish-in-ponds-you-cant-reach-with-a-truck/ I haven't seen this posted and thought it was entertaining. It's for sure a different way to stock lakes now only if MO had some areas like this.
  21. Yes but I tie my own. Those are pretty light. My buddy ordered a few and weren't as good as the heavier eye ones.
  22. Welcomw
  23. Anyone gonna be there Tuesday or Wednesday 5/20 and 5/21. Plan on going and headed there solo right now. Will be camping in the park and will have a fire going.
  24. Bheff it's sold to rick. Sorry.
