We went last Wednesday and started at Watts just after sunrise. The fish were eating tiny light Cahill type flies on the surface, but I didn't have anything small enought to match. Smallest I had was about a 20 and I missed 1 rise to that fly. I tried all the usual combos on nymphs, midges, scuds, buggers and nothing worked consistently. It was super slow all day, only about 8 fish I think. I started to think it was just me, but nobody else was hooking up either. After Watts we tried the kiddie pool, below the island and eventually Marval. Our thought was that Wednesday was the first day in a few to hit 90 plus degrees. With no strong generation flow for 24 hours, they were just sluggish once the sun hit the water. BTW, I was shocked how many Carp there were down at Marval. Had to be 100 or more in that stretch.

I've fished both. I'd take 1 fish per day on Beaver over catching fish shoulder to shoulder at RR. It's a great resource from some, but if you're like me you go for the whole experience, not just numbers. Definitely explore the Parker Bottoms area. Parker and the Crane Roost area are my personal favorites. All the usuals will work. Have fun!

Thanks for the links Dgames. I've looked at them before, but it's great to know that I'm actually looking at the correct thing! It would be nice to only have an hour and 15 minute drive, I'm a little jealous about that!

Thought I'd chime in with a few more photos from that quick trip we took. Seems like they've been generating non stop since that weekend we were there. I'd really like to get over there for an afternoon again to see if that type of activity is normal. Just a note on the rods we made. I fell in love with fishing that 2wt on that trip. Thats my first light rod and I'm sold on them now. Unfortunately, I stopped by a neighborhood pond to blow off an hour catching bluegills and snapped the tip section when I was putting it back in my truck. That really sucked. Oh well, replacement parts are on the way and I'll have it fixed soon enough. Does anyone have any idea when this constant generation will let up? Not that I mind, just wondering. to life! Josh

I've found that a size 10-12 stimulator greased up with Bug-Flote is surprisingly buoyant! I will say, the luxury of an indicator is that you can change the depth of your nymphs on every cast until you find the perfect depth. That is a little more time consuming when using a dry/dropper.

That's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll just join the masses on Saturday if I can get away.

Does anyone know how closely they've been following the generation schedule these past couple weeks? If I've reading it right, it says they're be on full blast tomrrow all day. I have the opportunity to sneak away for the day but I wanted to check in with you guys and see if theres a chance the water may be low enough to fish. Thanks very much, tight lines! Josh

Thanks for the info gents. Last time I fished the LIR it was 100+ degrees, fishless, and I hooked myself pretty good in the shoulder. I love the area and I'm looking forward to changing my luck this time. Anyone have a suggestion on a good camping spot?

My brother in law and I were back in NW Arkansas for the holidays and made a trip over to the tailwater for a couple days. We showed up about 8:30 on the 27th to heavy generation, but lucky they shut her down about 9 and we were in business. I connected with a couple 12-13" rainbows below the dam. Tried again the morning of the 28th and found none so we went to Parker and had a ball. We each had some 10-13" rainbows then I ended the day on a high note and connected with this hook jaw on a long, deep drift. I've been using my backup rod, a 6wt TFO and I'm glad I had it. I would have had a real fight getting this guy to the top on anything lighter.

I had a couple strikes on the adams, but the majority were on the midge.

I spent last weekend below the dam chasing trout. It was a great couple days of fishing. Friday morning I had some great action with a dry/dropper rig. I was using a Parachute adams s12 above a olive zebra midge s20. That worked great and I brought in 8 rainbows. When the horn sounded at 2 we moved down to Parker as fast as we could. I found a shady spot and brought in 3 more, on the same Adams with a s18 copper john below. Lost one right before the net too. Should have played him longer! The water got down there really fast, I expected to have more time to fish that hole but I had to rush out in high water. Probably pushed my luck on that one. I went back out early Sunday morning and caught a big mean Walleye on 7x tippet and a s20 midge. I couldn't believe it. After the sun came up, the wind started in and I didn't see anythign else ther rest of the morning until I left at 9:30. I'm traveling today and posting from my iPad, but I'll post some pictures of that guy when I get home to a computer. That was my fist time to fish below Beaver. I'll definitely be back! Anyone have a favorite spot down here? We've thrown everything bright in the fly box around the darn with no avail. Some guys caught a few on powerbait, but thats not near as fun. I'd be happy to have some help, We're getting skunked! Thanks all!

Great little camera, you'll enjoy it. You can keep it on "auto" mode and adjust your exposure compensation (the +\- button) to dial in a good exposure. That's a really easy way to get a reliable exposure when you're multitasking.

Thanks, I'll try some bright nymphs. As long as I can bring one fish to hand, the sunrise on the water will be enough for me!

I'll be up that way Labor Day weekend. I'd imagine there will be plenty of people out then too. Which access would you suggest for a newcomer to the Elk? I'll most likely go at sunrise to beat the heat. Thanks!

Hello all, new guy from OKC here. I'm relatively new to fly fishing and most of my experience has been in CO and AR so I'm doing my best to glean some info from this great forum. I'm heading down to LIR with my Dad and brothers this weekend and hope to find some trout. I heard that the eggs and san juans are working ok in that murky water. Anyone else have any thoughts?
