Killing Muskies :(
evnrude18 replied to Bill Y.'s topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Amen to all of the above, let's do everything to keep the populations, that so many have worked hard for, are preserved and are in check for our future fisherman-woman-people!!! Report as necessary! -
Below is the information on his busniess card the marina owner gave me, in case anyone ever needs it. Owners: Paul & Pam Price Address: 4208 E. Farm Road 66, Springfield, MO 65803 Dock Phone Number: 417-833-2058 Cell: 414-818-2615 Email: ozarker55@aol.com

They put up one hell of a fight. Be prepared. : )

The last two trips I have taken while bass fishing have landed a muskie by pure accident. Both on the first catch of the day, early morning. It's been 3 years since I caught my last one up until this year.

Nice work! Caught a 30" Muskie last Saturday on a jerk bait. One heck of a fight!

Fellows Report - 3/17/12
evnrude18 replied to evnrude18's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I hear ya Nitro. The Ranger has been beggin' to be taken more to Table Rock... but since the bite is comparable at both, I am sticking with what works for now. That is, until tourney time of course. -
Fellows Report - 3/17/12
evnrude18 replied to evnrude18's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
The bite is good right now Big... if you can find some time, now is better than when the water temps hit 90 degrees. Lol Thanks Nitro! -
Great day to be on the water, seemed there were many others yesterday that felt the same way as there were plenty of boats and fishing going on! A mix of clouds and sun, mild to heavier wind intervals made for an overall beautiful day, without beating you to pieces. Not to mention that my farmer's tan is now in full swing! Water temps were around 61 degrees at midday. Started the day trying to hunt down some white bass, with no luck. Focused on largemouth for the afternoon. Caught 9 total, 5 keepers, including one stud that went 5 1/2 lbs. as shown below. Crankbaits and jerkbaits were the ticket... for me anyway... on flats and weeded flats. Oh, the females I caught were about to pop... the spawn should be in full swing very soon. Water clarity was about 10-12 feet... not much has had a chance to churn up the water weather wise. Happy Fishing!

Fellows - Fishing Report 2/26/12
evnrude18 replied to evnrude18's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
Easy there tiger(s)... it has been a few years since I read the report, I very well had been wrong. I admit that. The guys I spoke with only spoke of past "stories". If it was indeed a 51 inch muskie taken out of Fellows a couple years ago... that Muskie could very well be 60 inches by now. : ) -
Fellows - Fishing Report 2/26/12
evnrude18 replied to evnrude18's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I have no clue as to how they fought it that long and didn't break him off. They swore up and down they saw it surface a couple times and it was a huge muskie... only to lurk back into the depths before making an attempt to net/drag it into the boat. Securtiy was on their way out to get them off the water at sunset while I was loading the boat. I do know that they caught him while fishing the marked brushpile near the spillway... and that pile is only 12 - 15 feet deep at the moment. Spoke with another boat that confirmed a report by the MDC i had read a while back on the internet - 2 years ago MDC shocked portions of the lake and found a 60"+ muskie in their findings. Crazy... -
Went out for the afternoon to try my luck with the bass. Beautiful day! Saw a guy tossin' an A-Rig around...for those that are interested - said the bite was slow and was not catching much on the rig. Found 5 Largemouth 15"+ holding in the weed beds in 10-15 feet of water. The mid-day sun probably took them from the deep and drew them up into fishable waters. Caught them and a lonely 15" crappie throwing a wiggle wart. Water temp was 44.5 - 46.0 degrees. Water temps still too cool to be thinking about the spawn, but, I would suggest focusing on the transitions from shallow to deep. They will come up for a bait, especially if the sun is warming surface temps a bit. I would give another 2 - 3 weeks of consistent warmer weather to get them active for spawning. Let's see what mother nature has in store! ON A SIDE NOTE: I hope the guys fighting the muskie all day on that ultralight finally got him in the boat. For the boats that did go out there Sunday, they were still fighting a 55"+ muskie on 4lbs test and an ultra light rod at 5:00 pm... after hooking into it around 10:30 am. That fish took them on a ride all over Fellows.

Went out this afternoon to see what was biting (it was only me and two other boats on the water this afternoon) and when I was leaving, I met the new owner of the marina. NIce guy. I appears that the old marina owners retired and sold the business to Paul & Pam Price. Paul mentioned that the entire marina was going to get a remodel, everything from a new minnow tank (hopefully it will keep them alive more so than the old bathtub they were in before) to a broad selection of lures and food/snacks to attract more customers to the business. It is definitely time for a marina update... not sure how the place still floats after all these years. I'm kinda excited to see what they are going to do to the place. Excellent post. Nice! -
Just curious as to if anyone has made it out to Fellows over the last month or so. Been thinkingI would go and see if I could pull some bass of some deep structure this weekend, and wasn't sure if anyone has had any luck.

Fellows 12/18/11
evnrude18 replied to nitro96's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
I went out on 12/11/11 and stickbaited various spots for about four hours. No bites either. Water was in the low 40's as well, very clear. Was planning on going Monday... after seeing your report Nitro, I am glad I decided to stay home and clean the garage. -
Spoke today with a guy that fished that same tourney on Sunday... white and purple spinnerbaits were the trick. A lot of shorts, but had a limit none the less. If you did not cast on the bank and drag the bait in, you had no chance on the limit fish. Not sure where the kickers were caught, but if you can get a limit you can go hunt thereafter. Good luck bro!

I went Sunday... and even with some trolling motor battery issues, still went and braved the wind and overcast skies. I thought for sure it would be a good day to catch some bass, but caught not a one. Threw spinnerbaits and wiggle warts. Probably still too warm of water temps for the wart bite to start, 56 degrees around the Mutton Creek area. Fished standing timber, from 1 foot to 30 feet. Showed some suspending fish on the graph but could not get them to bite. There was a couple guys fishing very shallow with what appeared to be spinnerbaits in the early afternoon. Looked to be all shorts though, right on the bank... secondary points and small cut-ins. Good luck on your tourney, who is putting it on?

Water temps were 58.6 degrees Sunday afternoon.... and I am pretty sure the wind was howling at 58 mph as well. White capping like it was going out of style with 30 mph gusts in the area. Just a few boats tackled the wind from what I could tell. Fished brushpiles with minnows for as long as I could stand it in the afternoon. Caught 5 crappie over 10". Threw a spinnerbait in shallow cover on the way back to the ramp and caught a 13" largemouth. Tough day for fishing. Cold front moved through overnight last night... ought to be fun to see what happens on Saturday with the afternoon temps reaching back up into the low 60's. I'll be there. Happy fishing!

Crappie bite was fair and light, caught 11 total in 2 hours, 7 over 10" with one measuring 13". Water temps in the mid 60's late afternoon. Fished from 4 - 6 pm on brushpiles. Had a couple hours to spend, wish I had more. Such is life! Happy fishing
