  1. Crowds aside, which stretch has the better fishing?
  2. We're actually floating on Sunday and we're getting on the water at 8:30 (that's the earliest they'll let us). I have floated portions of it before and learned to go on Friday or Sunday to avoid rowdiness! I was wondering how accurate the mileage estimate was. I was worried about time. Thanks
  3. Sorry - yes I call anything steeper than 45 a 'fast bank'. A straight drop off is bluff and anything in between 45 and sheer drop I call "fast".
  4. Guys, I'm going to be on the Niangua this weekend with my son. We're doing a new section of river this year from Bennett access to Maggards private take out. This is the 1st time we've done this strectch of river and I'm looking for any advice - river conditions, lure recommendations, etc. Also, any idea of about how long this will take? Maggards told me that it is roughly 10 miles. Thanks!
  5. Agreed. Most of my fishing budget is spent replacing my old faithfuls as well. I usually try half a dozen "new" stuff (or new to me) a year just to try and get another weapon in my arsenal.
  6. Thanks guys. I'm kind of a lure junkie myself so I think I'll pick up just one of these and sling it around. I'll let you know how it goes. I agree with you guys though, Warts and Normans are highly effective for 1/3 the price.
  7. Anybody tried these? I'm a fan of the Rebel craw and the Wart, both have been very good to me over the years. I've been eyeing the Koppers craw for a while but at $12 a pop, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. The finish is similar, if not better, than the Rebel craws so they pass the 'eye test' in the package....
  8. Yes, on holiday weekends it's busy with ski boats and jet skis, but few (if any) 'big boats'. The good thing about Pomme is that it's virtually empty every other weekend of the year besides holidays. I bought a vacation home there because of the lack of boat traffic on normal weekends and I avoid the holiday weekends if possible. 95% of the time, you'll have the lake to yourself save a dozen bass/crappie boats. In the fall (late Sept through Nov) when the fishing is best on Pomme in my opinion, I am down nearly every weekend and it's not uncommon to see only 1-2 boats on the water on Sat/Sun.
  9. Got out early Sunday for some bass fishing. Caught a nice limit of about 12lbs on crankbaits and plastic worms. Fished the Pomme arm. Fast banks still the best. Bite was over by 8AM.
  10. #4 is always key on crowded weekends. I just assume that the lake lice (ski boats, jet skis) aren't paying attention and/or are entoxicated. Be safe.
  11. Bass - caught good numbers on bluffs and fast banks with small plastics. Out twice for bass over the weekend and caught a limit both times (~9lbs each time). Not sure if it made a difference but I fished shaded banks primarily. Crappie - went out Sunday morning caught some really nice 12-13" slabs vertically dropping minnows on stumps in 25 fow. Fish were scattered, some 10' deep, next stump, near the bottom. Had to locate where they were from stump to stump. Kept (8) 10+" fish but had more keepers and several shorts.
  12. I've caught several fishing crankbaits for bass on rocky points and flats. Every single one I have caught has been legal and a couple were in the 20" class.
  13. I've been fishing Pomme for about 10 years and I've only caught one. It was about 14".
  14. Yes, sorry. Water temp was 63-64 lake wide. I fished up Lindley to Haverstick where it was stained and muddy on Thursday. Friday I fished the dam area to Wheatland and it was clear. The bite seemed to be better in the clearer water.
  15. Excellent bite along the old (flooded) bank line. Find the nasty moss and that's where they are. Caught numbers on a shallow crankbait and size on a creature bait. Friday was my best day, fished shallow stump flats and had ~15lbs best 5 - all on crankbaits and creature baits in <6' water. We caught them all day long. I'm no expert but the spawn appears to be over. No females to be found, fry present in the shallows, and TONS of 12-14" bucks to be had up shallow (guarding fry?). There may be another spawn surge w/ the next full moon. Good luck and stay safe.
  16. Fished every day (and some nights) 17-20th. Primarily fished the Aunts Creek, Little Aunts, and Jackson. Wiggle Wart bite was strong all weekend on points transition rock in 4-10'. My partner was throwing the original wart and I threw the Mag Wart; we both caught fish and one didn't seem to outshine the other. Color needed to have some orange in it. We threw blades sporadically but the bite was slower than the wart so we always fell back on that. Caught a few on jigs and baby brush hogs, especially after dark when the wind laid down. We found fish busting shad in the backs of the creeks at dawn and dusk and were able to catch them in a flurry for about 30 min on jerk baits worked just under the surfaced shad - they wouldn't hit topwater for some reason. They seemed to be after the threadfin shad because we saw several groups of gizzard shad and the bass were ignoring them and violently busting the threadfin. Overall the most consistent bite was the Wart but I would classify the whole 4 days as 'junk' fishing because just when you'd catch a couple keeps on something it would die off and you'd have to keep switching it up. Thursday - 10 fish, 5 keepers biggest LMB 3lb Friday - lots of shorts, 5 keepers no big ones Saturday - lots of shorts, 7 keepers, no big ones Sunday morning - a few shorts, 2 keepers We had 6 guys in our group and biggest bass for the weekend was 4lb 5oz LMB (2 tied) one caught on a wiggle wart the other on plastic. Overall pretty slow compared to years past in November but I love getting down there because we only get down a few times a year. Good luck!
  17. I bought one of the RC STX out of curiosity in Pro Blue color. I threw it around fish busting shad this past weekend and caught several. Appears to be identical to the MegaBass in design. They run 3-4' deep and the hooks are sticky sharp. I'll be getting more, for $8 it's a good deal.
  18. Myself and 5 buddies have our annual Fall trek to the Rock scheduled for Nov 17-20. We stay in Aunt's Creek and usually fish the Lower James primarily. We've been making this trip for a couple years so I have a pretty good idea of what to throw at them but any recent reports and/or advice is greatly appreciated. Water temps and clarity are always nice too. I really appreciate it guys and don't worry - I promise I'll share all this info with my buddies. RIIIIIGHT!
