  1. Wow, what a Dandy!
  2. Wow, this hits close to home, I fish the Current at the Mouth of the Little Black some. Glad to see he got busted, makes me sick to see this picture. Makes you wonder how much of this goes on, and are never caught...
  3. Ron it's a finesse presentation basically a senko cut in half and put on a small jig head.
  4. Thanks! 8 pound nano with 8 pound low vis mono Rick, they did win! Season winding down!
  5. Daughter had a ballgame tonight, and saw Mike there, he said he's getting some new line..lol We had fished this place earlier that day and caught very few, I think the bite really turned out bout then, talked another fellow that fished another river, that same time, and he said the same thing that the bite got hot. I really like the Nano, didn't think I would, but got used to tying the leader now, it's a non issue now...
  6. Good ole Fluegar President Rick, that's what all my spinning reels are! I was right around the Arkansas Border give or take bout 10 miles, not a bad drive from home.. My friend Mike has not seen this video, as a novice bass angler, he did catch a few fish, but this video does not do him justice, I apologize in advance..lol. But you can see how he's working the bait differently and his line is different, it had to make a difference as he was casting in the same spot..
  7. I posted this yesterday where Dave has been discussing the Ned rig. I put together a little kit, with the help of Ham, and a couple youtube vids. Went Friday with a friend who had never been smallmouth fishing. Fished thoughout the day trying different spots, with the Ned, Jerkbaits, and jigs. The action was slow but steady catching some spots and few smallies thoughout the day. My friend Mike even caught a good Largemouth on a deep diving crankbait in a pool. It was getting later in the day, so we decided to try this spot one more time, and I decided to give the last hour to the day all to the Ned, as I love to sling jerkbaits this time of year. Well, here's the results..
  8. Very imformative video Dave, thanks.
  9. Ha ha, that's a good one, but the smile on the face with that Dandy says it all! I like this pic of Mitch here, looks like he's a Zen Master or something of Winter Bassin....lol
  10. Saw where they are gonna post the presentation on youtube from the other night, look forward to that!
  11. LOL, yeah after watching it, I kinda feel bad about that, but I kinda got in the zone, had that look in the eye.. His line was a lot of the problem, we were swinging that in the current, but mine was dragging along the bottom where I could do the twitch thing, his was just swinging to fast. He said he's already got some lighter line..
  12. yeah, had two great outings last week, no pigs like some ya'll were catching but a few good ones! I really wanted to make that MSA outing the other night, been talking to Mitch on Facebook, he has connections here where I live, but never met him or you guys yet, look forward to that someday!
  13. Fantastic report MOsmallies! Mitch is the winter river smallie guru for sure! He won't claim to be, but proof is in the pudding as they say! Looks like a great time had by all. Scott's fish there was a sure enough Dandy! Awesome!
  14. That is a good point, I had kinda gotten away from the spinning reel a bit myself, but not now! I just updated my spinning arsenal, but i'm not giving up on other tactics. Actually in that video, earlier in the day I was throwing the ned, and had equally if not better luck on Jerkbaits, the action was kinda slow most of the day until that sequence, bout an hour before dark they got really active, and think was in right place at right time, it was fun!
  15. I agree
  16. I'm hope to get back that way sometime in the next week, and i'm gonna test a theory just for my own curiosity. Last year I fished this stretch with a friend who is a Grub fanatic. He outcaught me that day, fishing that grub a lot like I did here, he wasn't shaking the rod like that, but drifting it basically. It's hard to believe that you couldn't have similar results with the Grub. I think I know the answer will be no when I try this, but this Ned Rig still baffles me, it's hard to believe even after experiencing hot action like this, in the dead of winter to top it off..lol. I"m gonna rig up two rods one with the ned and one with a grub, and see and video the difference, might be another fun video..
  17. To put that in perspective, I've read the Agfc estimates round 300 smallmouth per mile if river in the EP in Arkansas stretch. That crazy good effecient, almost scary. Current river where I fish mostly I would say has more than that per mile I would think?
  18. Yes I'm now a believer Rick! I can't wait to try it in some warm wAter. I was telling ham the other day after Christmas i tried them in a neighbors pond, had ice floating in it. Caught 3 largemouth in 10 minutes before I set hook to hard on 4th one and broke off. Notice in the video I had my drag lose enough when I get excited as I tend to do that protects me. Lol. That nano don't stretch!
  19. I think I'm with you on this now, the more I caught at that one point, the hotter the bite. I didn't put it in the video, but I catch a small fish, that hit it 3 times before I hooked him..
  20. Yes, what amazed me, the first 7 fish was out of the same hole, you'd think they'd get shaken up a bit from all the action, but they kept after it..
  21. I was using 8 pound nano with an 8 pound low vis green cx premium. Mike "who is a novice bass angler to his credit here" had at least 10 maybe 12 pound clear mono. He did catch several fish on the ned himself that isn't showed here, if he sees this he'll remind me I'm sure..lol. I love this setup I got with the nano and my St. Croix Rage medium, extra fast action. Thanks to Ham for getting me on the nano..
  22. Gonna post this here as well, here is a short video from a recent trip, my second time to try a Ned on a river.
  23. Ok, here's the video finally, check it out, like to hear how ya'll work the Ned in Current like this. I basically watched a little youtube, and got advice from Ham and this was the result. Notice how I work it differently after the first couple of fish! My partner here with me put one on after the second fish I caught in the sequence, but he had 10 pound standard mono, and it moved fast in the current. I was using 8 pound nano with a 8 pound low vis green mono leader, and it seemed to work perfectly, plus with that line, and my rage rod, I could feel a lot more than he could.
  24. Oh yeah, from Paragould south down there is all good for Spots, lots of channels out there with wood and trees. Here in Clay country it's one Channel, and when it's low in the summer, that's about where all the water is, the wooded areas drain out. Video bout done, still processing, my internet stinks!
  25. It's downloading, maybe have it up by 11.. I don't have the best bass lakes close to where I live, we have bass in our delta river systems, the St. Francis near the Sunken lands are excellent for Kentukies!! As far as smallmouth, the rivers to my west are my closest option, i'm thankful to be as close to them as I am. Now Hamilton, IMO as far as fishing goes, lives in Gods country, the amount of different kinds of great fishing right there still blows my mind!
