  1. back when i used to go we always used big jigheads with sassy shad bodies.i think you can still get the sassy shads at the dam tackle store.we caught everything on them.there are alot of different plastic bodies sold now that would work.
  2. yep....but is it gonna stay cold long enough to freeze back up?i doubt it, but i haven't checked the long range forcast.i can't ever remember not being able to launch in march.i don't want to go bad enough to go tommorrow, tho!
  3. thanks!how much ice is left?
  4. i was happy to go... and i did see plenty of fish at least.be happy to meet up next weekend if you can.i'd like to check out your kayak as i'm looking at them.good luck on taney if you get to go.
  5. saw 3 kayakers use the ramp at the mouth of the branch.they hauled outta there downriver.that is where i saw some good fish.a ranger or staff of some kind told us we couldn't fish in the spring branch, only the river.as soon as she left for the rest of the day people fished there..... i don't know what you mean by "if you read that, that is where they are", but the maps show the access and ramp downriver from the 64 bridge as bennett spring access.not part of the state park, if that's what you mean. who wants to go this weekend?
  6. didn't do any good.saw some fish there where bennett spring creek enters the river in morn but never caught one.ran into a lady in a canoe at the bennett spring access boat ramp (just down from the bridge) late in the day. she said two trout had been caught lower down from there but otherwise nobody did any good.this was sunday.
  7. i have a bunch.it's easy to ship.if you still need any post back and i'll send you a list.
  8. i found it last night online.it's a thompson style.jdmidwest, i don't know if that's what you mean by original, but it's only good for right behind the hook eye,it's not intended to reach over a bead or farther back like a materelli can.i still wasn't using it right.now that i know how to use it i think i'll like it even better.it makes the whole knot at once, rather than me fumbling with my fingers trying to make several loops(half hitches).
  9. wow to both of you.i'm envious
  10. it's not any faster for me to do it by hand....and i've got plenty of callouses to.
  11. i don't know but i haven't seen another like it.not that i've seen a bunch but all the others looked very similliar to one another.
  12. i'd already gone to my hands because i couldn't figure out this tool.just happy i can use it now if i want.it doesn't look like any i've seen in videos.it was free, and i didn't want to buy one.
  13. i finally figured out my whip finish tool !!!!!!!
  14. wrench the local trout stocking pond(at james a reed wildlife area) had several trout frozen on the surface a couple weeks ago.it's not very deep and i didn't see anything else dead so i didn't worry much.

  21. thanks bass i couldn't see that clearly.seems simple enough for me! wrench, that was awesome.watching it made it all clear.thanks again. both of you gave me some great ideas.....ain't winter great?
  22. i mostly use either a 6 or 8 wt and wieghted wooly buggers.i'd like suggestions on the best leaders.....i've been using short mono, or short bass leaders for #6 and larger.i'm trying smaller flies now and looking for suggestions.a 4x 7and 1/2 foot did ok with a #6 woolly bugger with a 1/60 wiegh on the 6 wtt.any better ideas?
  23. thanks for the quick replies!bass, does that have any particular dubbing under the copper wrap?do you catch other species besides trout on it? wrench, i had seen that one or one similiar to it on this site but haven't acquired the material yet.yours has different colors i like.when u say fish it like a nymph, do you mean close to the bottom, swimming slowly, or???? i'm tying up more buggers now.i tie in dumbell eyes on some on the bottom and swim/bump them along like jig fishing for bass. i really appreciate the info, suggestions, material lists and pic's!!!!
