Sheesh, If I don't make their props spin by the 4th...I'll be the one "bummin' rides".

You can somewhat determine water color....compared to what it was the last time you were on the river.....by taking note of how fast any rises have occurred since then. A gradual rise (over several days) of 0.5 to 1.5 won't change the water color too much. But if it spikes a foot every 2 hours, and the gage goes over 5.0 (like it did June 2-3, or June 10-11) it will stir it up pretty bad, and will take it about a week to settle back down. What you "wanna see" on the gage is a reading of between 2.0(low) and 4.0(hi) for decent fishing. Anything above 4.5 is gonna be unfishable and dangerous for most folks.....(yes, that includes me), but I've had some really good days at 4.0 It's sure lookin' good right now....ya lucky Bum (LOL) Let us know how ya do.

Yeah, the Windyville gage is the best indicator we have, of conditions in the Trout holding section of the river. I'd like to see a gage at 64 bridge...maybe someday. Going by the Windyville gage, a reading of 2.5 is about perfect (just a tad high). Windyville gage You really can't go by "rainfall amounts", cuz it depends on which side of the hill catches the most rain. Looks like I won't make it Tomorrow.....gotta fish for Dollars instead of Trout

She's been crankin' out some darn nice soft hackles...and does a mean crackleback. Hope I can keep her interested... without burnin' her out. My hidden agenda.... is for her to be able to outfish any "boyfriend" she might aquire later in life......LMAO !

I've brought this up several times in similar discussions. The other "WRITTEN LAW" describing private vs. public water, aside from the "navigable" term.... are the words "used for commerce". That can mean: used to float logs down, used as a city water supply, dredged for gravel...ect.

Not really, not in the Niangua anyway...I've pretty much been targeting the trout still. With the water heating up though, that is about to change. Been hitting the LO tribs for Smallies some, but nothing spectacular to report.

I'd like to find a stripper too....but even more than that...I'd love to find TROUT below Bagnell. I think we have an ooops...LOL

It's lookin' good today (a little cloudy, and still a bit high...'bout perfect). The water feels awfully warm..... good for Smallies & Goggleye...bad for trout. The Trout I caught today didn't fight as hard as usual, and none of them even attempted to jump. Strikes were half-hearted and hard to detect, and once hooked they were sluggish. I'm gonna blame it on the warm runoff. I gotta take this opportunity to piss and moan about the jetboats. I don't like seeing them on the Niangua, and they are getting more frequent as time goes on. Got checked for my permit today by MDC....after they blasted through the run I was fishing...TWICE! How can they successfully enforce game laws from a darn jetboat? I mean, you can hear them coming from 3 miles away....and the last few "OFFICER/AGENTS" I've seen are NOT experienced river-jet operators, by any stretch of the imagination. (I specifically LOOKED for a PFD in the boat....they might have been stuffed somewhere, but I couldn't see them). Sorry, but IMO this is ignorant. Plus, from the boat operating "skill" I have seen...it's just a matter of time before one of these "agents" mow over a swimmer, fisherman, or a canoe. What a nasty headline that would be...if it didn't get "covered up".

Thanks Fella's, Picked her up a pair today. One of the shops I frequent had a pair of Hodgman wadelite's that have "just enough room to grow a year or so"... I think. If she wears them out before she grows out of them.....I'll be proud

No, she wants the "stockingfoot design", and "breathables" if we can find them. Also should mention that we have (For Sale Cheap) a pair of youth sized stockingfoot neoprenes (Flytech) that still have alot of miles left on them...She has grown out of those.

I'm looking for a pair of breathables for my 12 Y/O daughter. Are there any shops that carry them ?

I've come to grips with the "raining fish" thing....fish DO fall from the sky far away from their home water ....as do frogs, crawdads, and other pond critters after a tornado passes over a farmpond...somewhere. We had a F-2 tornado March of 06....a few of our belongings have fallen from the sky 45 miles (by road) from where our house was. (the heaviest being a ink pen with my business name on it) So it's easy to see how small critters could get relocated. fish would most likely be dead, but frogs and crawdads might make it if the landing wasn't to abrupt. Just this last April there was a cloud of red dust that settled in the Portland, and Hermann, Mo. area....supposably it was from a dust storm/or tornado out in Oklahoma. Once an object (stick, rock, fish, pelican, goose...ect,) is in the jet stream, I guess it can be pushed for a very long distance.

I'm not so sure DD. Wish I could see it with its wings at rest. Does the Dobsonfly have the long antenna? been a long time since I've seen one ... out of Helgie form. Dobsonflys also have noticable PINCHERS...bigguns. I'm thinkin' it's a Stonefly. But then again, something about it doesn't look aquatic. I would lean toward relying more on the Paddlers guide than I would CT's book. I get the impression that he hasn't floated much....and prefers to fish within walking distance of the accesses. You may have some "jet boat company" below Rochester rd. And will definately have some below Schlicht if during the weekend. I haven't floated any of those stretches entirely, but have put in (and paddled UP several miles) from some of the accesses you mentioned.

Took a look at it today (Monday), it's still moving alot of mud and I considered it "boderline fishable", we decided to play in the park. Lots of Browns caught today and a massive tan caddis hatch on the lower end began at about 5pm.

Doggonnit....the Niangua can't get a break it seems, soon as it begins to clear up and stabilize...here comes another gully-washer. Then again, maybe this is just "the break" it needs. Ya ever wonder what the floor of lake Niangua looks like? Gotta be covered with bottles, cans, sunglasses and strings of multi-color beads.

Oh you should have seen it Tuesday, The "Wine growers of the World" convention did a float from Bennett to NRO...complete with two (2) jetboat/paramedic escorts. Fishermen were personally asked by the folks from NRO to "get out of the river" while they brought the jetboats in and got them all set up. They were as nice as they could be about it, and apologized afterwards....but still, something about that didn't set too well with me.

I'm trying to imagine what that would taste like.....Sounds alot like douche-pie Sorry....really.

I had a good day Tuesday, and I have a pleasant new attitude about the canoe traffic....when they comes in spurts (ie: groups) ever hour or so....it kinda wakes the fish up and moves them around. Within 10 minutes of a big group passing I experienced some really agressive multiple takes, this happened numerous times throughout the day. Also noticed a definate movment of fish into the shallowest part of the riffles late in the evening...even though it was cloudy all day. All of my fish except 3-4 were caught on a dark-olive soft hackle.
