  1. I don't have any recollection of it to be honest, but my older brother does. He just said that we went down to Ar. with Dad to pick up a new Ouchita Jon boat along the White river somewhere...and it was "coldern hell". LOL He slipped and fell in the river (without a change of clothes) shortly after the pic was taken, and had to wear a blanket all the way back home. Somebody has to recognize those bridge pilings.....no ?
  2. While digging through old photos I ran across this pic of my very first Trout. All I know is that it was somewhere on the White river. There's a building and what looks like bridge pilings in the background that might look familiar to someone. The year would have been about 1967 - 68 Does anyone have any idea where this was taken ? I'd love to know exactly where I caught my first Trout so I could visit the spot again someday. Thanks, Wrench
  3. Not as bad as the last blow-out we had, before this one....
  4. Southern Pro umbrella tubes are what you want for Fall slabs.....unless you just wanna fill a bucket with 9 inchers, in which case any old piece of plastic will do. Here ya go.... http://www.southernpro.com/UCT.cfm
  5. For the love of Pete, Al.... That thing is built for Musky
  6. Uh huh....Careful now ! Every female I've ever been involved with claimed (early in the relationship) to LOVE fishing and the outdoors, matter of fact that was what supposably caused them to fall for me in the first place...well that and...oh nevermind. Anyway, it doesn't seem to take long at my pace to burn'em out on it. The early warning signs that they are getting burnt out on it are: Taking a book along (as if it is a trip to the doctors office). Preparing elaborate lunches (this is your clue that lunch is probably going to be the highlight of her day). But you know you're doomed if she says... "what's the name of this river again"? When you start seeing those signs it's time to either switch gears for awhile ....or count your towels. Just a few tips from a guy that's been through two marriages and about 3 other meaningful relationships. And no I don't drink excessively, punch walls, get slack in my work ethic, fart at the dinner table, or partake in any other displeasing activitys. Hunting and Fishing is truly my only vice. It has caused many years of happiness..... and a handfull of broken hearts. Try as we may we'll never understand them...or them us. But it hurts less in the long run to hang up those poles every once in awhile.
  7. Well don't loan it to me.....cuz I can loose it pronto.
  8. What a Douchebag Why are you tying so many of them then ? One should last forever, right ? Unless a 5lb. Smallie steals it.
  9. You kiddin' me ? I can honestly say that I've lost WAY more worm rigs to snags than I have any other bait type. Of course they are much cheaper (thereby more expendable) and also mostly because I throw them places I'd hesitate to throw other baits.....But still, I've hung up a truckload over the years.
  10. Ok, lets see: Sweet and familiar girlfriend vs Hot but idiotic weather lady ? Hmmm, darn ! I dunno man, How many towels ya got ?
  11. I call a tie, between the 4th one and the last one. The 4th is a good calendar shot. The last is...."Hallmark"...all the way.
  12. Here's something to keep you busy for awhile Careful though, that entomology business is addictive and some guys get all tweeked out on it without realizing how much info is truly useful in angling. Have fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tVZAxO6hMw...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V2_aWmjpow...feature=related
  13. that'a lookin' better. I think the hair will relax a bit after you get it wet a few times. Two wraps of rootbeer colored Cactus chenille behind the lead and you've got it dicked. I'll stick some in an envelope and put it in the mail if ya want to PM an addy. I fish Sliders quite a bit, the eyelet directly in front of that pointed nose tends to find little cracks and crevices pretty easy. They usually slingshot right back out though.
  14. I keep getting reminded by my girlfriend that "THEY AREN'T LADYBUGS.....They are Japanese beetles". They seem to migrate to the Southwest corners of both my house, and my shop. I have to vaccum them up every day or so.
  15. Yep, Man,, where do they learn those lines ? You'd think they were all networked together like Stepford wives. My thought is always "Well, if I didn't have YOU I'd have so much money I wouldn't need to be responsible". But of course that is a thought that I've never voice tested.... so it might not be safe. If you ever decide to test it though I've got some extra towels
  16. Are you using deer body hair, or bucktail ? Bucktail won't flair as much. When tying your bucktail to the slider head do it in 3 or 4 stages, rather than trying to lash down a big clump all at once. It will be alot more durable. You can wrap some cactus chenille over your thread wraps to hide them, and give it a bit more bulk, and flash. If you want. Either way it should catch fish, and looks like it would come through wood cover or weeds pretty good....not so sure about chunk rock though. Are you determined to use hair ? cuz IMO a silicone skirt (glued on the head) would be better for the application. ok, I think I'm done nit-picking
  17. See there ! That's your Karma...for knifing those Browns
  18. Eric, you apparently do not understand women. Not that I claim to either,,,BUT.... THEY flush them on their way out. Which brings up a perplexing question..... Why do they always take every towel in the house ? It's as if they think they introduced you to towels. As if "There were NO SUCH THING AS TOWELS" before she came into your life. The measure of a Man can be determined by how many times he has bought new towels
  19. Awesome fish ! I've fished the Manistee 3 times and it's a hard river to figure out. Miles of dead water then you come across a stretch that is just full of fish....and looks no different from anything else. Frustrating as all get out. The people around there are kinda different too.
  20. Here's the way it was taught to me...and the way I am teaching my 14 yo daughter (who does extremely well BTW)... * Hand goes palm down on the BOTTOM of the wheel (6 o'clock) Right is right.....Left is left. Just move your hand in the direction that you want the trailer to go. Once the angle you want is achieved return halfwayback to 6 o'clock and you will maintain that angle. Long trailer, short trailer...doesn't matter, but short trailers respond sooner. The easiest way to learn is with a suicide knob at 6 o'clock
  21. Are there just too many of us (humans) ? Have we overpopulated the land and thrown off the natural balance of things. ? This could lead to a discussion on the Georgia guidestones, the illuminati, and Religious faith. And since we can't go there I guess I have nothing of real value to add. I see what goes on here around L.O. concerning water quality and I'm sure it's no better anywhere else, and my opinion is that there are too many blind and mindless, but yet "intellegent" people that seem to be incapable of independant thinking (or gathering of facts) who insure that nothing will ever change. Totally bums me out. Plus I worry about the future for my kids sake...and their kids. Sometime, Somehow...Something has to give. This I do know.
  22. Yep, he's the type of guy that would show up at Bennett on opening day, release a truckload of Labrador retrievers,.... and start throwing sticks into the stream.
  23. OMG, you f***ed me up with that one.
  24. Oh ! Nice video, did you do any good ?
