  1. Congrats Rick! I dream of the day! Great fish Ducky!
  2. Good luck fellas..Lookin forward to hearing about your trips. Headed down Feb. 10th myself.
  3. Awesome. A coworker and I are planning on heading down the 10th and 11th. Probly stop by midday on the 10th. You open on fridays?
  4. Got a couple of those for me when I get down there Tim? I'm ready to do some hog huntin!
  5. Sayin Hi from Smithville, MO. I fish smithville lake mostly but make trips to MO trout parks as much as I can. Love the forum and happy to be here.
  6. I just joined myself and fish the MO trout parks mainly. I've been wanting to try the white and taneycomo also. Welcome.
  7. Thanks for the report tim. I'll be continuing to watch this page since I am planning a trip Feb 10th and 11th. This will be my first winter trip down there and I am looking forward to doing some hog hunting! My biggest trout so far is only about 3.25 so I am hoping to beat that this trip. I've been to your shop many times and just got signed up on this forum..man its great!
  8. Thanks Laker, I sure hope so. All the big trout pics from RR I see the majority are in the winter time. I just hope the weather holds up good for us. I am hoping to get into some SM at Bssp.
  9. I live on the MO side in Smithville, and we have a business in Trimble.
  10. Thats funny..I was just telling my coworker that I bet it is easier to throw a hair or malibou jig with spinning tackle to get em. Thanks for all the help. I guess I'm a hack too since I was already planning a backup to my flyrod. ha.
  11. Those who don't understand c&r fishing must be JUST fishing to eat? I don't understand that. I fish because I like to fish and few things in this world give me the same pleasure. Don't get me wrong, I love to eat fish also and do keep stocked trout I catch in the parks, among other species like white bass, crappie, catfish, and walleye but that is just a bonus, and I never keep my limit. Fish to fish. Thats it.
  12. I'm also planning my first winter trip during c&r season. Just see all the pics of big fish in the winter and ready to do some hog huntin! No sure about montauk but have seen on here that drys are pretty slow in winter (obviously) but that woolies and streamers work well on the bigger fish. I usually fish RR but have never during winter.
  13. Thanks guys! I will definately do that. I usually only get down there once or twice a year since I live north of KC and enjoy lots of other fishing as well. My personal best rainbow is 3.25 that I caught as a kid and look forward to trying to beat that this winter. Why is it that so many more big fish are caught during c&r? Is it because there is so much less pressure? More big fish?
  14. Thanks for the advice....I think . No that sounds good! I probaly will try it out even though there are NO SMALLIES in the park since I am stubborn and will still enjoy trying. Man it is blowing cold here north of KC this morning and know that this could be what the weather is like in feb. or worse. Oh well, I'm sure it's worth it. SO if I don't have sink tip can I add a splitshot at the end of the fly line? I'm also guessing that you are fishing by feel that deep. Do the sm that are NOT there bite pretty light in the winter like other fish do? Can you fish them with an indicator or does that not work as well? Any suggestions on lodging that time of year? Oh and can you fish the niagua after the park closes?
  15. I've heard of those feral hillbilly fish! They bite on sweet corn and fried squirrel right? They are definately fighters when hooked! Bit confused laker...I haven't fished there yet....
  16. Hello everyone! I have really enjoyed finding this site and reading all the posts. I've been fishing since I was a child and it is now a "healthy sickness" for me. My wife may not agree and with my first baby on the way I am getting while the getting is good. A coworker and I are planning a winter trip to roaring river and to bennet over a few days the last weekend of C & R. This will be our first trip during catch and release season and look forward to doing some hog hunting. I have been wanting to try the winter for a while and am excited. I've been fishing at RR since I was 8 and was rewarded with my 1st beer when I finally caught my first fish on fly when I was 12 or so. My bachelor party this past year was on the river, winning easily over the other option of a night out at the bars. I had to wonder if I was just getting old, or a true fishing addict...either way I would not have had as much fun anywhere else. Just saying hello and looking forward to the trip Best Fishes Lou

One of the reasons I've wanted to try BSSP in the winter is because I've heard the smallmouth fishing in the park is good since they are looking for warmer water that time of year. Can someone confirm this? I've never caught smallmouth on the fly and just know it will be a blast. Any tactics I should know? Look forward to getting to know you all. Lou
