  1. I'm sure that most of the shops in southwest Missouri have the larger sizes of this reel, so just a heads up for the Knasas City guys. I was in Rainbow Fly shop here in Independence yesterday morning and Matt has all of the sizes of ths reel. I have one for my three weight and love it. Matt's # @ Rainbow Fly Shop 816-373-2283. Doug
  2. I was thinking more along the lines of bass, walleye etc. in bodies of water other than Taney. Doug
  3. Just curious as to whether anyone has tried the Berkely Gulp alive Minnow grubs and what did they think? Doug
  4. Don't know about Springfield but if you find them let me know. I'm looking for the same thing here in Kansas City. Doug
  5. That was great. We don't get to see much of that here in the Kansas City area. Doug

    Big Bass

Truman - osage and grand Lake of the Ozarks - Gravois Both of these lakes are good all over in my opinion, just mention the above because that is what I am most familiar with. Yeah I am a tiger but love my hogs too. My dad lives in Arkansas. Doug
  7. Brian, That video is priceless. You should be a very proud dad, and yes I am also jealous that a five year old makes my casting skills look bad. Doug
  8. WOW WHAT A HORSE!!! Just curious, do you folks think this horse was released from the hatcheries show tank or has this fish been lurking in Taney for some time? I wish this fish could have survived, but in my humble opinion that was probably not possible. Congrats to the lucky individual that caught this fish. Doug
  9. I could be all wrong but I have heard the Lamine River east of Marshall Junction has some smallmouth. Also I have a book about fishing for smallmouth in Missouri and it lists some areas around Sedalia. Good luck, Doug
  10. Thanks for all your help guys. With your help I have found many more uses for my 5wt's. I have a glass 7wt that I will continue to use. Went to Rainbow Fly Shop here in Independence, Mo. this morning and Matt hooked me up with a TFO Lefty Kreh Signature series 7'6" 3wt off of the trade in rack. It feels great. Thanks, Doug
  11. Have done a little homework on the 3 and 4wt's now. Wow the possibilities are endless and a little overwhelming. Talked to Matt at Rainbow Fly Shop here in Independence yesterday and he says I am on the right track and that he has all kinds of rods in stock in this range from low end to high end. He also has a trade in rack with rods in this class. I am going to see him Saturday. Thanks guys so much for your help. I think for the time being I am going to go light and maybe down the road look at the heavier stuff. Thanks again, Doug PS: would really like to see the water go down on Taney and the White. Really miss the tailwater reports on Taney and would really love to go see my dad in Mtn Home and fish the White.
  12. Thanks for the help guys. I definitely want to hang on to the 5wt's. I will start doing my home work on the other weights. Thanks again, Doug
  13. I have three general purpose trout rods. A Sage STL 9'5wt(a very nice rod). 2 A TFO pro 9'5wt(heavier than the Sage but a very nice rod). 3 An Orvis Streamline 9'5wt(low end yes but feels pretty good). My question is this, due to an extremely heavy workload and the price of gas I am not able to get down to southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas near as much as I would like(my father lives in Mtn Home, Ark.) As a result I am wanting to get into more bluegill and bass fishing here in the Kansas City area on small ponds and lakes. To achieve this should I be looking at some 7 or 8 weights for the bass and some 3 or 4 weights for the bluegill? Also forgive my ignorance but could some of the above mentioned rods cross over into a trout fishing experience? Thank you for your help, Doug
  14. I live in Independence, Mo. and weather permitting I am going to test a new pair of sunglasses and a new fly rod in the morning. Looking for bluegill and maybe some small bass. Might go to fountain bluff sports complex in Liberty ( my wife is working a baseball tournament there). Maybe James A reed wildlife area, Lake jacomo, Lone jack or some other KC body of water. Any of you locals have any suggestions? Catching would be nice but I am really practicing and testing. Any info you all have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Doug Kiefer
  15. Hey all. I stopped in bass pro independence and visited with Wanda after work today. She looks great and seems happy. She definitely still has a passion for the sport. I told her that people on the forum were still talking about her and she seemed pleased. I'm sure she would love more visitors. Doug
  16. Congrats Terry, Prayer does work. Glad you got to stay in the same area. Doug
  17. Having one heck of a thunderstorm here in Independence, Mo. The insurance adjuster looked at my wife's car this afternoon to assess the hail damage of Tuesday morning. $1636 damage. He will look at my car tommorrow. I've already been told my roof is trashed. That will be quoted tommorrow also. The good news(lol) is the storm tonight is supposed to bring even worse hail. I am grateful though, at least we are not having to evacuate from a 500 year flood. Things could always be worse. Be safe everyone! Doug
  18. Very nice Terry. It looks great. Doug
  19. As you can tell by my screen name am4mu I consider Kansas a foreign country(even though I'm only 15 minutes away). However I must extend cudo's to all the people of the Jayhawk nation after last night's performance. The Hawk's made the Big 12 proud last night!! I wish them the best of luck against Memphis( a very good team to). I was very disappointed in the Kansas City media's coverage after the game. They still would not let Roy Williams go. He went home people, get over it! He had no connection to the current Kansas players. Don't take away from the tremendous job that Bill Self has done with this team. This was about the players from North Carolina playing the players from Kansas. I have tremendous respect for both programs but this tournament has proven through the years that in a one and done situation that anything can happen. Is North Carolina a better team? I don't know but they were not last night. I watched Roy Williams post game interviews this morning and he was nothing but a class act as was Bill Self. Having said that I need to get off my soapbox. My best of wishes to the Hawk's on Monday night!!! One more thing before I go. Tyler Hansbrough to me is the most tenacious player I have ever seen. However I feel he is overrated. I feel that Michael Beasley from Kansas State would eat him up. Maybe even Bill Walker. Please Tyler stay in school and get your degree. Doug
  20. Check out orvis's website at www.orvis.com and it will list all of the Orvis fishing schools across the country(big cedar included). I'm not saying I recommend them, just providing a link to info. Personally I feel that Jeremy Hunt is the only way to go for instruction(from my own personal experience). There are probably other local guides that are good also, I have just had great luck with Jeremy. He wears flyfishing on his sleeve and once you meet him you have a friend for life. Good luck in your search! Doug
  21. My father lives in Mtn Home and I have been trying to move there for years but have not done so because of the limited job oppurtunities. Also the town has grown so much that the traffic on hwy 62 at times resembles the Branson strip. Can't argue about the fishing oppurtunities though. Start out of town in any direction and you are on fish. Good luck. Doug
  22. Mine is working fine at home on comcast. At work on firefox I can not get in. Doug
  23. Yes, Boomerang is much better now. Doug
  24. Boomerang Resort out of Branson West. Talk to Greg. He is a member of this forum and goes by the screen name of WVU. Good people, very reasonble and I like it there. I think his website is www.boomerangresort.com. He is remodeling his units and they have their own dock and a rental fleet. Good luck, Doug Kiefer
  25. What color have you gentlemen been using in Trilene xl and Bps excell. I have been using 2# and 4# vanish yellow. Like them both but are very expensive. Doug
