  1. I was just digging through the basement and found an old fly rod combo. I'm not even sure how I gained ownership but if my feeble mind serves me correctly I think I bought it new back when I was bass fishing all of the time. Rod Shakespere FY1615 line weight 5-6 Reel Shakespere E Sigma 94 This is a glass rod that is a real buggy whip. Anyone have any more insight into what I have here. It seems like a K-Mart combo. This rig has to be over twenty years old. Thanks, Doug Oh I forgot to mention the rod is 7'6" Thanks, Doug
  2. Has anyone had any experience with Okuma's Helios reels? What has my attention is the sealed waterproof drag. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug
  3. Thanks for the insight and quick response Mr Ducky. Doug Kiefer
  4. Was out and about this morning in Independence, Mo. and discovered something I thought was odd and wanted to throw this out to you all and see what you think. A Casey's on 23rd street here in Independence had unleaded for $324.9. It had premium for $317.9. The rest of the town is mostly at $317.9 for regular unleaded if you look very hard at all. I know Casey's pushes an ethanol mix up here but is this what I am seeing? Any comments? How bout it Mr Ducky I know you are a c-store manager. (not trying to rile you Mr Ducky just looking for your insight). Thanks, Doug Kiefer
  5. Check out my post of yesterday under general discussion titled "wife layed down the law". The guys came up with some excellent and appreciated suggestions. Doug
  6. After reading the responses to my post I feel I should clarify the intent. The real vacation she wants just means she wants to go somewhere other than the ozarks. She loves Lilley's and the White River, this time she just wants to go somewehre else. As far as fishing goes she has never discouraged me from it, actually she encourages me and she fishes some also. As far as the tourist traps go I really don't mind the craft shops and the other shopping that goes on. The only thing I can't handle is the shows. I love going to restraunts that feature reigional cooking especially barbeque. I'm really just looking for a place that has all of the above. Thanks, Doug
  7. Here in Independence $3.25 a gallon for regular unleaded, $3.35 for mid grade and here is the strange one. Some stations are offering premium for the same price as unleaded. Supply and demand must rule. Doug
  8. Last night my wife informed me that this September when we take our yearly vacation that she wants to go on "a real vacation". Now I would be perfectly happy going back to Phil's or going down to the White River(my dad lives in mtn home). But the order has been issued. I was thinking of Gatlinburg, Tn. I was there as a child and have heard it has changed a lot(kind of a Branson east). I have also heard there is trout fishing in the smokies. Any comments or ideas. I would also entertain other ideas. Thanks, Doug Kiefer
  9. lbt, That is exactly why I was curious as their flyfishing catalog shows a 25 year warranty. Doug
  10. I have been reading the Cabelas catolg this morning and I am curious. Does anyone know who is manufacturing Cabelas flyrods and reels. Thanks, Doug
  11. Dave, It was great talking to you. I hope to see you at the next MTFA meeting. Thanks again, Doug
  12. Thanks to all. I am looking at all possibilities. Rainbow fly shop has classes here in Independence and yes Jeremy Hunt has a great class at Lilley's. I went to his class when I was at Lilley's several weeks ago and this is what motivated me to start tying. Dale thanks for your reply. I will try to call you this weekend. Thanks, Doug
  13. Can anyone help steer me to a beginners fly tying class in the Kansas City area. Thanks, Doug
  14. Drew, I talked to that buddy of mine from Cocordia, Mo. as promised and he agreed with me that to this day in the Johnson, Saline county areas of this body of water, bass will not be found unless it is a very rare instance. Primary problem, this is farm country with a lot of run off creating chocolate milk water. I also checked my copy of 200 Missouri Smallmouth Adventures by Chuck Tryon and he does not mention this body of water either. I hope you can prove me wrong. Doug
  15. I went to high school and college in Concordia, Mo. During this time I fished the Blackwater from Concordia over to Sweet Springs. In this part of the river there was no bass activity. Now maybe that has changed over the years I really don't know. I am at Lilley's right now. When I get back to work next week I work I will talk to a good fisherman who works with me from Concordia and ask him about present day conditions and get back with you. Good luck. Doug
  16. Welcome aboard. I've coached some kids who now play for Warrensburg High School. Doug
  17. Welcome aboard. The knowledge you can gain here is immense. This forum can also almost become a way of life. I don't say a whole lot on here but I am reading all of the time. To the other guys in the forum please be good to this guy, he is my brother from Teneessee. Doug
  18. I am going to Taney Saturday afternoon. I will stop in on the way down. Doug
  19. Thanks, Phil Doug
  20. Going to Phil's Easter Sunday and will be there for a week. There are excellent maps of upper Taney on this site. Does anyone know where to find maps of lower Taney, especially from Branson on down to Forsyth? Hoping to get into some crappie, whites and largemouth along with the trout. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug
  21. Thanks for the pictures Phil. I went on that boat as child forty years ago. Wish someone could have saved the boat and put it on display somewhere. Doug
  22. Thanks for the input guys!! I am now rethinking my approach. Thanks, Doug
  23. Does anyone have any suggestions for a six and a half foot to 7 foot ultra light spinning rod for throwing rooster tails, light jigs and drift fishing. I have found several at Bass Pro and Cabellas. Custom building seems to be out of my price range except for a very good friend of mine out of Mtn Home. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug
  24. Drew, I sent you a pm. am4mu
  25. Have you tried the hill called the "manmaker" over on the north side of St Louis. I believe the park is called "Sioux Passage"? It is a killer for cross country runners.
