Dutch, were you the first boat at Roark yesterday morning?

Put in both mornings at Roark and stayed exclusively in the Suns Creek area. Ended up yesterday with about 15 bass the biggest being 3.8. Most of the bass yesterday came on a spinner bait and jerk bait, the spinnerbait fish came out of 3 feet of water or less and the jerkbait fish were on main lake points. Today there were a few caught on the spinner bait again but the vast majority of the bass today, 22 total, came on the jig in 5 to 10 feet of water. Today we had strong westerly winds which I think really helped with getting the bass active. Water temps pretty much everywhere I went were 48 to 51°, the previous two nights cold overnight lows really took the water temps back down again. Tight Lines! P.S. The ticks are out! Water is about 3 foot high but very clear north of Mutton Creek and stained above twin bridges on both rivers. We have mainly been bass fishing but have stopped on a number of, what used to be productive brush piles and couldn’t get bit. For the life of me I couldn’t buy a crappie bite if you paid me. Water temps by the mile long bridge today were 47 and yesterday up around Birch Branch were 52. If you can figure out a bite message me, I am needing a fried crappie fix. Best of luck!! 🍀

It’s interesting that you just posted this Skeeter, there is quite a difference this year to last year in my opinion also. I spent 10 hours on the lake yesterday with a friend of mine and another six hours today on the lake with the same friend. Yesterday we fished between Ruark Campground East and Birch Branch. It took us three hours to get our first bite and we ended up catching five out of the same 100 yard area and then it took us another three hours to catch another eight off a 100 yard stretch of bank, including this nice walleye. Today we fished out of Old State Park in the Hawker area and it took us three hours to get our first bite and we ended up catching maybe eight on another 100 yard stretch of bank on jerk baits. No random bites to speak of anywhere else. So over 16 hours of fishing we found three small areas of fish that would bite. After you find a few fish in an area hitting on a bait consistently you think that maybe you can put a pattern together, there’s a lot of people better than me who fish and maybe could figure out that pattern but I sure couldn’t. But I don’t feel too bad because other fisherman I’ve talked to in the last few days have either been skunked or only put one or two in the boat. Better times ahead, I’m sure of it!! Finished a total of 14 hours between Monday and Tuesday, couldn’t buy a crappie and ended up with three bass. It’s as tough as I’ve ever seen it up there. Two bass on the jerk bait and one bass on the a-rig. I also saw 38 to 40° water between Mutton and Roark. Tight Lines....... didn’t happen. 😪

Went out of Mutton Creek and had a beautiful morning on the flat calm water. Ended up with 20 nice keepers, most caught in 18 to 20 feet of water on main lake brush piles. Jigs in shad color seemed to be the ticket again. Didn’t notice any ice on the lake other than the very back of Maze Creek as we drove over it. 36 degree water. Tight Lines!! —

Been out the last couple of days, yesterday was pretty tough with the wind but managed eight nice keepers and today it was a beautiful day on the water with little wind and 16 keepers! Brush piles on the main lake, 20 to 25 feet of water, jigs in shad & electric chicken. Water temps are 38° and the water has cleared up really nicely in the mid-lake area. Headed out again tomorrow. Tight Lines!

Just to the left of that huge sycamore tree on the point just north of the bridge. You will know when you are there when you see that loon in the water, the loon with the bad eye. If the loon is not around look for the stump that is located by the chunk-rock bank next to the old catfish float. Need I say more? Tight Lines! 😁

I was thinking that also as I’m not showing the fish that were on the piles a few weeks back. Maybe the lower water temps might also have something to do with it??? What I have figured out is that some piles hold almost exclusively small fish and the piles where I am catching most all my keeper fish hold 99% keepers, most of those 11.5 inches and bigger. Tight Lines!

Went out both Thursday and Friday to try and catch more slabs. Quite the chilly start to the mornings but calm and flat days on the water are always a bonus in January! Over the two days we ended up with 32 nice crappie and one keeper walleye. I have noticed that the crappie bite has really slowed down since really hammering them in mid December, I’m thinking they might have moved out to deeper water?? Water temps are 38 to 40 and we found the crappie on brush piles in 20 to 30 feet catching all of them on jigs. Tight Lines!

It’s been great playing Santa and getting friends and family fresh fish!!! Headed back up tomorrow since we will celebrate Christmas on Wednesday.

Nice job redshad!!! We were out today and had a couple of limits of crappie again but it took us until 1 o’clock to get them. We also picked up a couple of bass on crank baits and creature baits. Merry Christmas to all of you!! Tight Lines in 2019!!

Yeah it’s been an awesome seven or eight days of fishing!! Have found some serious crappie including a double limit again today and hopefully another limit again tomorrow before shutting it down for the Christmas season. I feel really blessed to be able to have such consistency in such an inconsistent sport. 😃. Tight Lines!

I would have no issue keeping 11”+ spots and giving them to all sorts of folks who are always looking for a fish dinner!!!!!!

What a beautiful morning on the water, it helped that the bite was great. 27 of the 30 came off one brushpile in less than 2 hours. Shad colored jigs on a 1/16 oz head in 26 feet of 40 degree water. Tight Lines!
