Well things haven't changed for me lately, I still suck at catching bass on a jerkbait. Put in at 9am Sunday morning, water temp 40 degrees and water clarity not good. Headed toward cape fair and the water clarity was much better past virgin bluff. Tossed the jerkbait around in some pretty fishy looking places but nothin. Wanted to feel a fish tug on the line so about 2pm we headed for point 15. Counted 8 boats in the mouth to flat creek. drifted a jig around for about an hour, 3 keeper crappie, couple shorts and a small bass. I'd say if a guy was there all day you could catch a limit, it may be slow, but find the structure and you'll find a few fish.

Seasonal Movement, The Jerkbait, And Finding Fish
BATCAB27 replied to Fishin Hodge's topic in Table Rock Lake
Going to try to find some jerkbait fish this weekend. A couple of questions from a jerkbait novice... Do you guys parallel the bank or cast to the bank and retrieve it back to the boat? do you use spinning rods or bait casters? line size? i'm guessing bait casters and braid from reading some of the prior posts but just want to be sure . any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance -

Some Help For The Kids?
BATCAB27 replied to soxpac's topic in Fellows Lake, Springfield Lake, McDaniels Lake
The look on my kids face when he hooks into a 14" catfish on his Snoopy rod is priceless. Now if I could get him to take his own fish off the hook.... -
Some Help For The Kids?

I rarely fish there but my best guess would be to go down by the Dam with some night crawlers. Another idea is Rutledge Wilson farm in springfield. It's owned by the park board. They've got a small stocked pond you can pay a couple of bucks to fish in. I take my 3 yr old there sometimes, get some night crawlers and a bobber and he catches the crap out of bluegill and small catfish. -

Taking the kid out Saturday morning to try and find some bass. Haven't been on Stockton in a couple of years. Any advice or reports out there?

a friend of mine caught a limit about a week ago around point 15 in 10-15' of water around the trees sticking up using jigs and minnows.
-
I would say that you "could" do it. It may get a little dicey trying to get back to the ramp depending on water level. If it were me I would put in a Walnut Springs and run up.

Fished Blunks Sat from 12-5 only 1 white and 1 short crappie. Saw some guys fishing the fly rod that I think may have been doing ok. Everybody I talked to had about the same luck as us. Did hear of a few being caught up at Taylors. Also had a buddy limit out on crappie down around point 15 on minnows and jigs 15' deep.

It's an access. Pull up a map and find the intersection of Hwy 248 and 173 just to the west of Galena. Go south on 173 to the 2nd left which I believe is Walnut Springs Dr. follow that down to the ramp.
-
Wayne is right, you could put in at walnut springs and work your way up. You could almost get to Blunks. There is also a good area to bank fish from at blunks. With the warm weather forecasted for this weekend I would expect a good crowd on that bank though.
-
Yep. To catch them any other time I'd have to go lake fishing. I'm out
-
No, those fish are too pretty to keep! To each their own, I guess I was just raised to throw this fish back for others to catch.
-
The reason I don't return them to the water is that your opinion is wrong. They are excellent eating. And I believe it's nearly impossible to fish them out. I don't think you realize just how many are in there. Fish I will keep include: whites, crappie, walleye and the occasional cat or goggle eye while canoeing an overnighter.

Cold day but the fish are still bitin'. Same area they were in last weekend. Most were caught on an xrap or jig. We did run up to Taylor shoal and the cave hole but saw nor caught any whites. They all seem to still be below blunks.

Wildlife Agency Arrests Four Men For Keeping 360 Fish Over The Limit Wildlife officers commonly issue citations to people who keep more fish than legally allowed, but on Tuesday the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency charged four adult men with the possession of 90 fish above a long-established creel limit. That was 90 fish over and above the limit for each of them, noted arresting Wildlife Officer Brad Bagwell. The most they could have had in their total possession was 60or 15 white bass per person-- but they had a total of 420 when they finally quit fishing. Also known by many anglers as stripe, this is the time of year when white bass prepare to spawn and school in rivers where eddying current creates ideal habitat for them. Experienced anglers take advantage of this late winter run in the tail-waters below Cumberland River dams. Part of the idea of establishing creel limits is to help spread out the amount of fish available to everyone, noted Bagwell. This was a lot of white bass that could have been enjoyed by others whether as table fare or just to catch and release. The four men, all with Nashville addresses, are set to appear in Cheatham County General Session Court April 24 for a preliminary hearing. Khamnovan Keomanychanh, 60, Kongkham Phenevongsa, 68, So Akhom, 70, and Phay Souksavong, 78, will each face charges of exceeding the daily creel limit six times. When I saw how many fish there were, I had the four suspects help separate them into piles of 10 fish each, said Bagwell. When we got all them separated there were 42 piles and that came out to 90 fish over the limit per man. Bagwell and assisting officers Major Cape Taylor and Wildlife Officer Eric Tumminscalled by Bagwell to provide backup--confiscated as evidence ten fishing rods and reels, and the 360 white bass in excess of the legal limit. Sometimes we have problems with people illegally netting game fish, said Bagwell, but everyone of these white bass were caught in day with rod, reels, and artificial tackle.See More

I'd say if you put in at Walnut Springs and headed up river you could almost get to Blunks. That first shoal down from Blunks is prob only 2-3 feet deep in a couple spots. The first stretch down from Blunks is where we hit em yesterday. The James south of Springfield was up and rollin pretty good this morning. If it's up like that in Galena I'd say they will move up pretty fast. We didn't go above Blunks to see if any were up there, but the straight stretch just below Blunks you could see the males lined up along the banks. The sows we got were a little further down around the corner. I'd say by the weekend they wil be up to Taylor Shoal and higher.

Fished around Blunks from 10-2 whites were everywhere. Caught most of mine on a suspending rapala minnow around chunk rock 5-10 feet out. Another boat we were with got most of theirs on a mud bank with some type of swimming minnow. It was rainy and cold and awesome.

Any reports on the whites up in the James yet?
