sandbc replied to Lifes2Short's topic in Stockton Lake
would love to go.....................oh wait , i gotta work. dang. good luck -
i was wondering if anyone had ever been to lake arkabutla in mississippi to do any crappie fishing? i have heard that the crappie fishing there is out of this world. i started researching it on the web and have found the the min. length limit is 12 inches and daily limit is 20. i am wanting to take an early spring trip down there. the pictures i have seen show a lot of 15 and 16 inchers. the lake is just south of tunica miss. where the casinos are so my wife is all for the idea of the trip so she can stay at the casino and help the local economy. if anyone has any input i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

well we didnt have real good luck.. we only brought home 7 keepers and caught a few little ones but boy did we enjoy the day. the lake was almost glass smooth and hardly any boats out. 2 keepers caught on minnows and the rest caught on pearl white jigs around brush piles 12 foot deep. keep up the reports shockley. we enjoy them.
-
thanks shockley for the report. i am going to head there today and fish with my brother to try to find them. was hoping someone would give a recent report. I will post how we did. thanks again.

buddy and i went to cedar ridge sunday. got on the water about 8:30am and fished till 3pm. we had 1 keeper crappie and about 10 dinks and 3 fingerling bass. terriable day fishing but it beats sitting at home watching the chiefs lose. anybody else catching any crappie? my brother has been catching a few on pomme. guess i will go try there next time.

Well "Dr Straw" I think you are sure thinking down the right track. Everything you said sure makes sense to me. I am not as smart about it as you are but I can defenitly agree that the bite is more than just off. Its missing. I used to fish the CC area all the time but somehow fell in love with the cedar ridge area and this year in particular because of the low water. Im sure looking forward to meeting you someday on the lake. Keep up the good reports. I know I enjoy reading them..

i was there a week ago sunday crappie fishing.. caught a few nice keepers in shallow brush piles. it was pretty windy that day. most were caught on minnows.
-
I have never had such a bad day fishing. I put in at cedar ridge about 8:15 am and fished till 4 pm and only caught 1 keeper crappie and about 8 dinks. It was such a nice day with good temps and no wind what so ever. Hey, but it still beats workin. Better luck to everyone else.

how about some crappie reports from truman? particularly the fairfield area.

straw hat.....hows the ramp at CC. still in good shape to put a boat in easy with the low water?

buddy and i went to cedar ridge today. started at daylight. fished over brush piles then went to the bridge. we caught 6 keepers early over one brush pile and moved to others and caught lots of shorts mostly on minnows. no keepers at the bridge but had fun catching a boat load of shorts on jig and niblets. went back to starting brush pile and picked up more keepers there about 25 foot deep. finished with 12 nice crappie before giving it up due to the heat at 1:30. not much breeze so was real hot. and wasnt over loaded with recreational boaters. maybe the way the little ones were biting things might be changing and the keepers will follow.......... i hope. good luck

I agree with everything Zarraspook said. This is what worked for me. I fished at night 3 weeks in a row ( one night each week) . I used one submersable green light about 5 foot deep and one white floater at the same time. It took about 2 hours each time to attract a large number of bait fish. The fish started biting slow but got busier as the night went on. Almost all the crappie were caught under the white light and most of the white bass were caught around the green light. Something like 28 crappie and 20 whites. That was the first week.. The next week worked the same way except we caught many more whites than crappie. The third week was a bust. Think we had 7 crappie and that was it. Each night was over the same brush pile. My opinion is not to move if you know it is generally a good spot because it takes to long to gather the bait fish to the lights again. Bare in mind that this was also in the late spring before it started getting hot. Hope this helps. Good luck. Stacey

what part of the lake?

Fishbait.....I know you said you had some non boaters coming. Have they been placed in boats yet. I will have room for 1 and just wanted to know if someone needed a ride with me from Springfield. I remember posting to someone that wanted to come but didnt have a boat that I would probably have room but I cant remember who it was and cant find the post looking back. Anyone can call me if they need to. 417 848 6930 Thanks Stacey Carter

Hey guys. Im noticeing that there are no other replies to this post. Fishbait, do you have a confirmed list of people that plan on fishing sunday? Just wondered if the heat is going to keep everyone at home. I still plan on being there but if you dont have many for sures Im thinking we might need to postpone till the first of September. Just didnt want the fish day to be like our meeting at bass pro with only 3 of us.

I am still planning on being there. My regular fishing partner is not going to come so I will have room for someone in my boat. My 8 year old grandson might come with me but there will still be plenty of room. If he catches anything I will keep it seperated and not use his at the weigh in. You will just have to trust me. Its not like a new bass boat is on the line to be won. Fishbait.... what do you need me to bring for the meal. What ever is needed will be fine. Stacey

Hi guys. I always fish Stockton but the crappie are being stubburn there lately so decided to go to Truman for a change. We put in at 6:30am at Fairfield landing and fished all day till 5pm. The crappie bite was slow and very lite but we did manage to go home with 2 limits. Fish were caught in 30ish fow at 15 foot deep around standing timber and the K hiway bridge piers. Almost all were caught on minnows. Couldnt get em to look at a jig. Good luck.

I skipped out on Stockton today since the crappie are being so stubburn there. We went to Truman where the fishing report has been better. We put in at 6:30am at Fairfield Landing and fished all day till 5pm. The crappie were really slow and the bite was very very lite but we did manage to leave with 2 limits. Not many shorts and we had some really nice 12.5 inchers. Almost all fish were caught on minnows. Think we caught 3 on jigs. 30ish fow 15 foot deep. We even got to watch our own air show while 2 fighter jets, probably from Whiteman air base, made a dozen low passes right over us doing all sorts of manuvers. Pretty impressive. See you guys July 1st at the fishing gathering. Stacey

Kee sims.........I am sure it will never be too late. Someone will probably have room for you including myself as I will not know until that weekend if my regular fishing partner will be able to go. If so my boat is big enough for 3. Stay in touch on here. Stacey.

Im having the same luck. Three weeks ago grandson and I fished all day for three crappie. The next week my buddy and I caught 18 and would have probably caught more but had to quit at noon to catch a plane. Last sat. my grandson out fished me by catching 2 crappie to my 1. Very slow day. As for Maze creek I have not caught a fish there for 2 years. The rest of the above was on brush piles around Cedar Ridge.

Just got back from Florida. Count me in for July 1st with boat. Not sure yet if my regular fishing partner will fish with me or not but will let you know in case someone needs a spot in a boat. Stacey

Well it was a beautiful day to be on the lake but a terriable day for catching at least for us, My grandson done real well for his first time out with the exception of not catching any fish. But I have to say that he stuck with it all day and asked if we could go back sunday. I only caught 3 crappie (1 keeper) and 1 12 inch bass ALL DAY. Sucked. Tried all my favorite brush piles then tied up at the bridge then jigged every pillar of the bridge and tied up at the other end. No luck there so we went up Maze creek and tried the trees at differant depths and still nothing. They either were not biting of the grandson is bad luck. But it still beats work. See ya.
