Was the river back down to normal?? How was to water stain?? A couple weeks ago it wasn't very pretty. When I was up there you could catch as many fish as you wanted on shamie Sanjaun worms in the lighter colors. They ate it up!!
If we (people like us on OAC) watch our own backyard. We should be able to keep from having happings like we've had in our country. This type of discussion is a great way to start figureing out the best way to take care of what we have been blessed with. Until the corps hears and see's our conserns nothing will be done until it's too late. Keep your eyes up and be aware of your surroundings.
I was up this last weekend. The river was up about a foot and stained. You couldn't see the fish at all. The Sanjaun worm was the ticket for us. You could catch a 100 fish in no time if you used a light colored worm. The fish were gut hunting very quickly. They need cleaning stations bad!! After they started cleaning fish the trout had only one thing on their minds. "GUTS" I caught a lot of fish but not a lot of size. I did have fun like always!
It's been a while sence I've fished at Bennett. Where's the best stretch of water to fish for better sized fish?? Any hot flys?? I'll be there Saturday morning.
I'm kinda on the fence about a book. I've fished at RR for 40years and what I fish with and am successful with is not good for someone else. For years all I fished with was a 84th ounce black jig. I can tie a jig on someone else's rod and they might catch a couple fish. The presentation the rod action have a lot to do with successful fishing. I'm not sure you can tell someone how to do it. My cousin fished with the same jig for years and he could catch about half the fish I could. I got him to change his rod and that was all it took. I think a book would be a great starting place for a beginner to learn about fishing etiquette. I think that there isn't enough etiquette being used anymore. That would be a great place to start. Just my two cents!!
Hey what's the number for the dam to see if they are generating?? I had it and lost it like a lot of things. Thank you!! I might be down tonight if they are not running.
Hey MoMuskies,
It's great to see someone wanting to be a part of a responsable public. You see so many that they do what they want to do and don't care. Your refreshing! Thank you!
Hey what is up with this construction. It seems like these guys are on the 10year plan. I've never seen a bunch of guys sleep standing up but I think this group is doing it. Are we paying them by the hour??? Does anyone know if they have a deadline???
I was down behind the dam last weekend and had a 20"brown come to the top and catch my skud before in hit the water. That was a first for me. I thought "try a dry fly" and I did. It wasn't realy a dry fly but I kept flipping it to keep it on top and Had a blast!! I was wondering what everyones favorite dry fly was??
Started fishing around 7am this moring. Lots around #2outlet. We went up a little bit. Started fishing with the fly egg. Started catching right off the bat. about 9am the horn blew and I'm not sure what was going on. The river came up a little bit and then started dropping again. I guess the grid needed a kick start. Started working my way up to #1. Started seeing some fish around the outlet and put a skud on. It got hot fast! We were catching fish everywhere. Had something happen that I hadn't happen to me before. I cast out and right before the skud hit the water a real nice brown jumped out of the water and grabbed my skud out of the air!!! No kidding!!! It was about 4lbs. Nice Fish!! I brought my cousin that is just back from Kuiwait. Glad to have him and his son home!!! Thank all of you for what you have and are doing for us. Great day!! Beautiful day!! Even tried dry flys and caught lots. 40+fish day.

I looked threw my old tags tonight and found my brothers tag from March 2nd 1974. He was one of the best trout fishermen I've ever know. We lost Roger in 1975. This tag will be one of my most treasured items the rest of my life. I also have his ultralight rod and Damquick reel mounted on my den wall.
I've got mine and starting to meet more members that see my name on it! It will be fun to see who is down and to know that there is someone down that you can ask or get help from if you need it. Thanks Phil!!!
Snagged,
It was one of the best days EVER!!! I brought my best friend from Columbia MO that is starting to fly fish and he caught some fish. The browns were running and hungry. The temp was great the wind was light. I caught and released beautiful trout to fight another day. I don't know how it could have been better!!
The sicker in my window was sent to me by a very good man. Phil
Started fishing about 6:30AM lots of cars in parking lot. Everyone was spread out. Temp wasn't too cold. Started above #2outlet. Fished a Egg fly in Apricot color. Started catching some nice browns right off the bat. Caught 4 in the 3lb to 4lb range. I'm still having trouble catching the big boys. Fished until 11:00. Caught about 25fish! Great day for anything outside!!! Anyone seeing Rick Osborn tell him to get in touch with me. I need some big boy catching help!! fr920boy@yahoo.com
I'll be down Wed morning bright and early. It shouldn't be as cold as Monday morning!! Marshalllaw will be down from Columbia MO. I put a Ozarkanglers.com sticker in my back window of my truck. Lilly sent me one. It's got room for my pin name on it. If any one see's me and my buddy say "hey".
Michael
I overheard you saying that you were using 3/4lb line?? Something else about setting a World Record?? You two sounded like you were having a blast! My biggest problem Mon morning was the ice in the guides. My reel froze to my gloves a couple of times also. It was greaaatt!! Marshalllaw and I have played golf at Zero degrees before and it reminded me of that day. Coooollldddd!! Next time I'll will speak up and say Hello.
Hey Michael,
I was on the other side of the river after day break in the red Chiefs sweatshirt and hip waiders. The catching didn't let up at all. I did the san jaun worm also and did well but I rolled a peach fly egg on the bottom and everything went wild. Not a lot of big fish but a lot of catchen!! Had one brown about 4lbs that gave me a blood test. What a set of teeth! Stood below outlet 2 for a hour and they liked the peach fly even better. Had a great time!!!
