  1. I'll be giving it a whirl this evening around my typical stomping grounds and will give an update. Water looks low and clear but backed up pretty far, may have to move around a bit more.
  2. I did get out and fish a bit tonight, hit twin and didn't catch many but made up for it in quality. Caught this pig and its slightly smaller brother within the first few minutes
  3. Sorry if I ruined the unveiling hog but I couldn't help it, great looking boat. Should be a river running machine. This is his rig, got a little boat envy right now
  4. awesome fish
  5. when you going to go hoglaw? You do any good friday?
  6. Drove over the bridges yesterday evening and there were plenty of people up richland, water had cleared pretty well but the white was still brown. I'll probably give it a day or two and they'll be back at it.
  7. I'm ready for the night bite, good luck this weekend and give me a ring if you're not catching them. Hopefully this turkey hunt is worth peeling away from the lake for a weekend.
  8. beaverfan, I'm hoping to be getting one for my upcoming birthday, I've been dropping hints like crazy. If it doesn't pan out I'll let you know.
  9. Fished last night after work and it got a little chilly but the fish were still active. Water temps around 53 up by twin with a nice blue stain to the water. Caught fish on a variety of lures including the flyrod but the pride and joy of the evening came on the a rig. Rigged it with 2.5" pearl curly tails and one chartreuse. Hit it like a 10lb hammer and bit the green. Saw a couple other nice hybrids pulled out around there that evening as well.
  10. Thanks man, we need to get out again after some crappie. My weekends are jammed packed and these next couple weekends I'll be chasing turkeys. What are your evenings looking like during the week? The days are long enough now I've been getting some good evening bites.
  11. Hey guys I'll be getting my new boat here shortly and I'm in the market for a fishfinder/chartplotter. I'm looking at the Lowrance elite 4. What does the map card get you? It's a difference of 50 bucks is it worth it? I'm open to suggestions on other units with similar capabilities in a similar price range, I don't really want to spend more than 4-500 and would prefer cheaper if possible. I don't do a lot of deep water fishing and I don't fish many different lakes. The majority of my time is spent chasing crappie and the occasional bass so let me hear your ideas. Sonar vs DSI not decided yet. Here are the two I'm looking at currently. Thanks guys! http://www.basspro.com/Lowrance-Elite4-Combo-with-FREE-Map-Card-and-RAM-Mount/product/1303130606352/ or http://www.basspro.com/Lowrance-Elite4-Color-Fishfinder/Chartplotter-Combo/product/53518400/
  12. Not me personally but a guy down in Texas is building my design. It's made for a mud motor so really beefy bracing and 1/8" aluminum hull. It should do pretty well up the river arms around here for fishing and the big shallow lakes in NE oklahoma where I duck hunt.
  13. Well they are still around, got into some fun topwater action last night throwing the pop-r. I was hoping to get into a hybrid or two but ended up with all whites. the freezer is about full so it's been a good spring to date. The boat is coming along nicely, should be another week or so and I will no longer be stuck to the shore. I can't wait.
  14. there ya go! Any monsters in the mix?
  15. water is low and clearing nicely, I have been fishing downstream because that's where i can walk easily so I don't know about upstream, I can say below twin has been packed with boats but there have also been good amounts of fish being caught
  16. yep they are moving up and around there in full force
  17. Well I succumbed to the allure of the alabama rig and it performed just like it should have. Not as fast and furious as hoglaw's report but definitely enough to keep one interested. Best fish were two hybrids that both went over 20" the largest weighing in just shy of 5 lbs. A couple fly fisherman across the river from me caught an 8 lb and a 7lb hybrid in the time we were there. Definitely a good evening to be out, I wish the white bass stuck around all year haha.
  18. Well it was pretty funny seeing these guys tossing that set up with a $20 ugly stick, you couldn't tell if they had a fish or not until the lure and or fish came out of the water. Can't make too much fun of them though, they out-fished me haha
  19. Yep twin is packed, either plan on walking a ways, swimming across or have a boat or canoe. Caught a couple dozen this weekend, lots of small males. Saw some guys tossing the a rig that were absolutely wearing them out. I think I may be a believer now, they were catching 10 to my one.
  20. Very nice, heck of a way to start a day
  21. The water is still in the mid 50's up the white but I'm sure the fish have slowed down a bit. You can put in at 412 and cruise a long ways up, saw a guy with a 200 up by twin bridges this weekend and the water is higher now than what is was then. I would recommend going up as far as you can. I have seen and heard of some fish by neil's but not in as big of numbers as what we've been getting into up by twin. We've been catching them on black and gold rooster tails and chartreuse and pink curly tail jigs, fish them as low and as slow as possible. There are some crappie up that way as well, any decent brush pile or stick up in 10 fow should hold some.
  22. haha I like the advice stump bumber. Shoot if you get the right camera with a wide angle lens that'd be a new arkansas record
  23. Jdelow, yep they are still around, been catching quite a few shorts. Wormer that's a heck of a day! Looks like a stripe to me but the best way for me to tell is to check their tooth patch/es I don't catch many stripes so I'm no expert on their stripes or shape.
  24. These are from Monday and Tuesday night
  25. hoglaw, glad to hear you were catching them, I haven't busted out the flyrod yet but have really been wanting to. I was planning on waiting till they ran up past the bridges so they weren't so deep, my skills are less than average but I sure do enjoy it. We may have to get together this weekend if the weather cooperates. I fished just upstream of walkers last night and caught an easy 20 within an hour. Nothing huge but some quality keepers. Speaking of that monster you hooked and couldn't tell what it was I have a similar story. After fishing monday and getting into some quality walleye I figured I'd bump my test up to 12lb just in case I got into them again. Right before dark I got a strike that about ripped my pole from my hands and immediately started taking drag. ran about 150-200 ft and turned back at me, I couldn't reel fast enough to keep up with this thing. at this point I was about waist deep in the river and was planning on belly flopping on this thing if I saw it, and then the submarine surfaced and saw the biggest hybrid of my life. had to push 30 inches and was as round as a basketball. Took one last dive and run and pop! out comes my little jig with a straightened hook. I'm bringing the big rigs this weekend and I'm going to boat one of those behemoths. Saw a few chase my little whites up to the surface as I reeled them in doing their little shimmy moves.
