  2. Huh, new sub-forum? Well, I'll start out posting some info for people looking for information. There are a number of mountain bike trails in the ozarks, and the best place to find em is generally http://trails.mtbr.com/ In my area, (that is, around Lake of the Ozarks and FLW), the best trails are Honeyrun (LOSP), Trail of the Four Winds (LOSP), St. James MTB Trail, Rolla Lions Club Park, Berryman Trail, Bittersweet trail (Osage Beach) and a number of others near Springfield. There are bike shops in Rolla, St. Robert, Springfield, Osage Beach, and Jeff City that I know of (and obviously STL/KC). I've been mtbing around here for years, so I can generally point you in the right direction if you've got any questions.
  3. I generally use hotdogs when I'm fishing for channel, it works, it's not terrible smelling, and stays on the hook relatively well.
  4. It becomes difficult to see around the lens of bias (both sides) these days, especially when each candidate is virtually willing to say or do anything to ensure his victory. I don't think either candidate cares much about the environment, and I'd be willing to bet a not-unhealthy sum of money that neither of them has ever touched a fishing pole when a camera wasn't involved. Regardless of your political skew, I'll take 5 guys willing to roll up their sleeves and actually do something over 20 guys who will scoot up to the computer and vigorously talk about doing something anyday.
  5. Looks like a common water snake to me.
  6. I agree with Jerry, shakey heads with zoom trick worms have saved a number of trips for me when nothing else was catching fish. And, of course, a senko will catch em when nothing else will. I tend to catch a crapload of sublegal fish on these two baits though.
  7. I'm in agreement with you guys... although I don't likely share many other views with many... I get the distinct impression that I'm being scammed every time I walk into a voting booth. The last few elections, I've voted against somebody, not for somebody.
  8. Megabass vision 110 jerkbait is pretty popular... I know guys who do well fishing it all year at LOZ. I personally always have one tied on when I fish up there... plus stuff very similar to the 4 baits fishinwrench mentioned.
  9. Directv is giving away free sunday ticket this year... my wife is a huge pack fan, so I have to haggle with DTV every year for games.
  10. Lazy-day canoes on the BP has been good for us in the past as well.
  11. I sent you a PM with some specific info, but I can tell ya I'd do the 133 to 7 float out of those two. I just floated Adams Ford to Blacks Ford today (no fishin) and there was only one spot I had to walk with my kayak... if I was in a canoe, I'd say I'd be doing quite a bit of walkin and draggin. In fact, being Labor Day, I saw exactly 0 other boats/floaters/fisherman on the water.
  12. Me too.. gonna go reacquaint myself with the most common "frequent rescue" site around here..
  13. It never really goes out of season, but when the leaves fall off the trees, it's way easier to find em. I do a lot of walking and looking for new caves. There are caves that flood, and caves that don't, you gotta know which is which... Don't do new caves in the rain for sure.. You'd be surprised at how little some caves seem to care how much it rains. I'm headed out to one today!
  14. Any of you guys cave much? I've done a few short (4 hr) trips the last few weeks to beat myself back into shape, and I'm ready to get at it. . .
  15. Me too, I noticed it's been sprinkling all morning here, but not too much in terms of volume.
  16. There's a flood warning for Big Piney out already. They're predicting about a 5 ft. rise... haven't seen anything for the Gasconade, but I assume that's the same story.
  17. Was fishing a tournament in the summer at night (great idea, huh) on LOZ a few years ago, and on the way back, on the main lake we got missed by a giant yacht close enough I coulda touched it. Guy had no idea what the running lights meant or was too drunk to care... my buddy tried to get out of the way several times and the boat corrected to the same course... eventually he just killed it and we crossed our fingers. I have also personally been in a 18 ft ski/pleasure boat that sank, but that's another story. I wasn't driving.
  18. Yeah, if you see a thirty year old with a handful of teeth left... there's not much that does that kind of damage around here besides meth. I've had two labs busted here in the last 5 years less than 2 blocks from my house. . . it makes me want to move before my daughter gets old enough to go to school, but move where? Seems like it's everywhere.
  19. Beautiful! How'd you rig the camera?
  20. Boy, I think meth heads are definitely threat numero uno around here. . . I can spot em a mile away, and it ain't ever a good thing when they show up. That drug is destroying a generation in this part of the country.
  21. Why don't you email Kevin at proreelservice.com and ask him if he knows anything about those Shimanos? I've got a reel with him right now, and he seems to really know what he's talking about.
  22. I've had a Sahara for the last 3 years and it's never done that. I don't primarily fish spinning reels though, so it may not have as many hours on it as you've put on yours.
  23. Hey, hate to do it, but I agree with Gavin and Greasy B. . . if the access looks shady, it probably is. I've had pretty terrible fishing luck this year on the BP compared to the Gasconade. The good news is that the BP is a really pretty river in some parts, and has some nice water, especially down where you're talking about. I should make clear that I've not been anywhere near Dog's Bluff this year. I fish much further downstream (east gate and down to gasconade).
  24. I've had a few unsettling situations in the past, but I've never had anyone actually try to screw with me or my family. I am not going to shoot somebody robbing my truck, I'm not going to shoot somebody vandalizing my property. . . I would shoot somebody entering my home, but I've got that covered at home... the likelihood that I'll pull a firearm in anger out by myself somewhere is far greater than I figure the likelihood that somebody will try to kill me. I can't afford to take that risk. Now, I'm not saying anything for anybody but myself... I will say that I know people with tons of firearms training and experience that shouldn't be allowed to own a .22 in my opinion. To each his own.
