The Northeast Oklahoma Fly Fishers is making a trip out to Sequoyah club this Saturday to catch some Sandies! There have been reports of small males up there all over the place and we are hoping that the big females have come up by this time. If you would like to join us we will start out outing at about 9 a.m. and will go until we are all tired and have decided to leave.

Absolutely, just find the deep holes and walk down to them. Put a stick in the rocks at the waterline and check back to it every once in a while. If the stick has water past it get the heck out of there or be ready to swim.

If it was a sunny day the fish will head for deeper water most of the time. Could have been your tippet also. Unless the water levels were ridiculousy low it really shouldn't matter to them. Also the fish just could have been hard for that day.

Naw, mostly midges and such. During the summer of course we get terrestrials and such. Thats probably my favorite time to fish drys! Humpy, Royal Wulff, Stimulators, stuff like that. I believe I've heard that it is indeed one of the stocking locations. I don't know much about fishing there, other than that its really deep. We mostly fish for the striper down there. You can take a streamer and start throwing that out there and catch fish. Thats fun for me xP

There are bugs that just kinda pop out every now and again but never really a "hatch".

mmmm yum yum, hares ears! At least thats what I take that to stand for... lol

[c]PURIST BEWARE[/c] This indicator (aka "sighter" to avoid confusion) would be more towards fishing in a slower water where we fish a style called "French Nymphing" which is a term that is used quite loosely for a long ol' leader and incredibly light tippets with, like the articles says, size 16 and smaller flies. You hardly ever use any fly line. I know of plenty of competitiors who use a 10' 3wt for this purpose as the length helps turn over that long leader (20+ ft. in some occasions) and the weight so that its not a pain in the butt to cast the extremely light flies. I've never found those 6" sighters that are curled to be a problem with setting the hooks. I quit using them because I liked the straight mono better for my style that I'm comfortable with.

Uhmm, Cowboyfan.... The Watts property is on the Lower Illinois river. The upper Illinois has no trout but is chocked full of smallies.

I think the fish are tired of getting hammered in their same-o same-o spots so they've started going into that deeper water. Has anyone tried fishing it with a sink-tip and a bugger?

I don't tend to pay much attention to the schedule, mom is always the one freaking out about it. But I never do fish right over there. All I fish is fast water. The styles that I fish are much more likely to work up in the stuff people don't like to fish.

It was indeed a good day this morning. Mom and I caught probably 20 together at the dam and decided to go hit Marval. I caught over 30 in one hole right there in Marval. Hares ears are some good ol' boys eh?

You glance at a picture of a river while in school and start looking for places to pull some fish out.

Mikey, the easiest way for me to explain it would be. If you come out of the road from the dam and take a left there, you'll go about a 1/2 mile and you'll see an old diner on the right side of the road. Take a left on this dirt road. If you go past Souter Gravel then you've gone too far. I could show you some time if you'd like. Just give me a holler before you come down.
