    SALT RIVER

Mark, you are a day late and a dollar short ...buddy!!! see previous post to answer your question!!!
  2. ..thanks thom! that is what I needed. New London is on highway 61 south of hannibal.
  3. Really enjoyed the pictures!!! Can any of you give me a report on the Salt River around New London??? Is it possible to get a boat or canoe on it and what kinds of fish could a guy catch??? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Maybe now would be a good time to do Thomasville to Cane???
  5. You are correct! The upper river does not see much traffic. It is very possible that you will have the river to yourself...except for a cow or two...Be sure to bring a camera and enjoy your trip. Let us know how it went!
  6. Brian K...to answer your question, we (three of us) floated thomasville to cane Saturday of Memorial Day weekend two years ago. The water was lower at that time compared to any of my 6-8 trips since. We have a particular camp site or fishing spot below whiten that gives us a great guage of the river depth...since we used it as our base campsite for a week each of the last two Memorial Day weeks. We did come across a campground up there, but it seemed to be very close to Cane Bluff. i would hope to float that section again...but i am afraid I will not get on the river until Memorial Day week again.
  7. ...fishing is better than mark remembers! It is a long float and difficult to fish when one needs to take out. I found the fish to be skittish..but then again, we had multiple canoes coming down the river and the water level was much lower than it is now. Caught many smallmouth early in the float, yet saw many very nice fish as we moved down the river. Some of the holes in the first 2-3 miles had the fish I saw...I think you could do well in this stretch of river.
  8. ...IF...it ever happens...I will take the picture for you ...mark!!!
  9. to make you feel better, Brian, maybe it was a carp!!!
  10. Tuesday nite had a nice rain ...Wednesday the gray mushrooms were everywhere.
  11. Thanks Al, for the updated report and their movement out of winter pools. I was thinking the same thing about where a guy could get a jet on the water! ...and catch smallmouth!
  12. ..not minnith in a boat Mark...but Al, give some locals a hint...how many miles and in which direction from your house??? without, of cousre, naming the stream!
  13. If you want to party on the river, I suggest you go to the huzzah near steelville. Seems like anything goes there!!! Except me!!
  14. but you know Mark, if I am not going to make it Easter, you might want to bring some bologna!!! (just in case)
  15. Not me...will not make it this year or next!!! Did it once and that will last me a life time! I kinda like less people! LOL
  16. Is that good or bad Steve??? I have been Thom'ville to Cane Bluff and experienced the same thing. I see that as being one of the positives of this river. I also think there are lots of smallies in this stretch...they seem to be very skittish up there though. You have to be sneaky because they can see you coming. I think the reason you do not see a lot of people on this river is because it is hard to get to from the East side. I like the lack of signs of commerce or homes (like the lower current or white rivers) and have had many camping-on-the-river trips where we did not see another sign of human life for 18 hours...or very little!!!

    Flood

The rainbows do not spawn with the browns on the eleven point! There are no browns in the eleven point! Wish there were though!
  18. ..."except for the Cardinals losing..." Mark...the Cardinlas won Saturday nite !!!...too many cocktails???
  19. ..I DID shave this morning so I will probably NOT get confused with the locals!!! ...and have already lost the tourist hat...you know the vest always goes with me because the tackle box stays at home!!!
  20. ...now mark...the conditions really make no difference to you when it comes to catching fish!!!...your line gets wet and the fish stay away from it under all conditions!!!...still better than working though, heh???
  21. ...the river was stocked below Greer this year. I witnessed and talked with MDC prior to Memorial Day and they stocked lots of fish. I am sure Brian has a better idea of the numbers and any recent stockings.
  22. ..."heavy rains washed away erosion controls...."...sounds to me like the band aid came off...Is he going to try to put another band aid on this heart attack???
  23. ...hello 2 sheds...what did you think of the current in comparison to the 11 point??? I have only fished the current below the park...know nothing about the water below.
  24. Gavin...thanks and I know what you are saying. I am more interested in getting to spots and camping than roaring up and down the river. I am a wader ...cannot fish from a canoe...much less a boat. I want to be able to get somewhere...a few different spots in mind...stay for a couple of days, and move on. I want to carry my full campsite and is too difficult to do in a canoe!!!..Whiten is the best put in for me...and want to be able to get up river....I do not care for and would not be a fish the hole and race to the next one type of fisherman....most recently camped and waded white creek area 5 days without leaving!!!...could do it again starting tomorrow if I was able!!!..work obligation...
  25. I am looking to purchase a boat and motor to use on the 11 point river. Any suggetions that may help me ??? what are some specifics ...good and bad...thanks!!!
