I need to grab some the next time I'm in Springfield. I fished last night and Friday night. One keeper crappie on Friday and two last night. Two barely over 10" and the other was over 11. All pitching jigs in brush piles. I bought some buoys for marking the piles, and that really helps me zero in on them.

Fish Finder Training – Screenshots & Interpretations

The third set of numbers on screen is speed in mph. Most were taken while drifting or idling in gear. The tree I was talking about is in the first photo, the red cylindrical mark just off center. Not sure why it didn't mark where it attaches to the bottom? -
Fish Finder Training – Screenshots & Interpretations

I snapped some photos of my Sonar on my last outing and could use some interpretations from more experienced eyes. I'm thinking this is a tree trunk with some scattered crappie/bluegill along the bottom? More panfish? I drifted over this and wasn't sure what it was. By the time I got my phone out it had mostly passed over, but it looked maybe like a pile of lay downs or brush? Just the end of it is on the graph. I apologize for the blurriness of this photo. Bass or other game fish suspended? These were taken last Sunday on Stockton. -
Fished again tonight and got skunked. Was in the same area, tried jigging a couple brush piles, and I trolled for a little while in deep water with a flicker shad. Not so much as a bite.

Put in at Masters tonight. Ramp was a piece of cake. It was pretty choppy so I was too weary in my small boat to try trolling the big water. I anchored by the island and fished a while near a brush pile, caught a 13" smallie on a jig and tube. Just a couple short bass and gills after that. I'd like to fish during the week, it should be more calm and cooler.

It's actually a little further, but not by much. I'll check them both out. My trailer tilts so I barely have to get it in the water, and can keep my truck tires far away from the slimy part of the ramp. But with the truck being a manual, the less steep the better. Thanks for the tips. I will try trolling. I have a 14' Alumacraft that seems pretty stable, it was fine on Pomme with all the boat traffic and wakes.

I'm a new boat owner and have always bank or pond fished in the past. I live in Collins and have fished Pomme for the past couple days, and the lack of size in the Crappie leave me wanting to try Stockton. Crabtree looks like the closest ramp to me. Any pointers or tips for this area? I target Crappie more than anything. Wouldn't mind some Walleye either. Also, how steep is the ramp at CC? I have to launch with a 2WD Ford Ranger.

Fished again tonight and caught a dozen short crappie, one gill, and a small bass. All jigging on brush and stumps.
-
What and where were you getting the gills on? Fished tonight and had a few 7-8" crappie. Still new to the lake and don't know where the hot spots are.
-
Had a little bit of time this afternoon so I gave it a shot. Didn't get on the water till 7:30 so I had less than an hour to fish. Caught two short crappie in one spot around 12 fow, and another in the same conditions.

I'm going out this weekend if weather permits and am looking for some crappie tips. Been reading that they're biting good, but they're small. Doesn't bother me much as long as I can catch them. Going to put in at Cooper's (near Lightfoot) and fish the MDC brush piles in the area. What color jigs are working?
-
Thanks. I live in Collins, so Truman, Stockton, and Pommel are all within 30 minutes or so. Don't know of any smaller lakes in the area though. I'd like to fish Stockton for walleyes more than anything else.

I just bought a 14' Alumacraft V bottom last night. It's 50" wide in the back, with a 9.8 Merc. I was wondering how well it will handle fishing Pomme, Stockton, and possibly Truman. I'm a little worried that it's won't handle the wakes in deeper water. Anyone fish out of a boat this size on these lakes?
-
Grabbed a box from both of these while I had a 5.00 introductory price for them. There's a pretty clear winner if you ask me. I cancelled them though, didn't feel like they were worth 15 dollars a month. Looks more like 10 bucks worth of stuff I could walk in and get from Academy or BPS.

I'm thinking about heading to Pomme tomorrow. Anyone have any luck out there recently? In particular Crappie and Walleye.
-
Thank you for the reply. Are there any other good spots? Maybe towards the Aldrich end? The 215 bridge is about 30 miles one way from me.
-
Has anyone had any luck catching Walleye from the bank at Stockton? If so, what location? Thanks
-
The Woods Station in Bolivar does not, but it's about 30 minutes away.

I also tried my luck on the same day. Launched at Coopers and fished the surrounding area towards Lightfoot. Didn't catch anything, water was murky everywhere. Tried spoons, jigs, and chicken livers. My finder was picking up groups of fish on drop-offs ledges in 8 feet of water but none of them were hungry.

I've had a terrible itch for doing some angling. I hit up my local three acre pond stocked crappie, Lmb, and channel cat. Only managed to hook a 3 lb bass on a jig. So I started brainstorming a little. I grew up in Minnesota and did a lot winter fishing through the ice. Can't do that here but I'm gonna try to mimic some of those methods. I still have some small jigs that I'm gonna try to use just off the bottom with a slip bobber and meal worm. I wanna try a Swedish pimple but I couldn't find one for the life of me. What I'm curious about is if anyone has tried this already? I'm targeting panfish.

I believe I misidentified the cat I caught on the crankbait, it was just a large channel. Anyway I took the boat out and did a lot better on the newer pond. At first we weren't having a whole lot of luck. I threw out a bobber with some pink Powerbait grubs on a normal hook with my small panfish pole... The first cat of the night hit that and my line snapped trying to pull the fish out of the water (forgot the net.) My brother was with me and he hooked the next one using a pink Roadrunner with a yellow skirt, and had a couple more hits that got loose. I started using my popper and landed 3 2-3lb largemouths in about 15 minutes. I am wondering about common pond rigs for bluegill in the summer.. We caught a few on the roadrunner but they were smaller than my hands. I would like to catch some bigger ones, if anyone has suggestions.

Well I tried pretty hard again and didn't have any luck with the cats. I think mic is right about the channel cats being gone from that pond. There are some fallen trees along the edges of the pond and whatever sunken trees that are left I can't see. I've only been able to catch bass out of this one, I bought a popper from walmart that really slays them. There is another pond at this place that is a little smaller but still large and it's only 4-5 years old. I caught a 20" flathead accidententally on a crankbait that I turned loose. Channel cats were stocked as well. I'm gonna take the boat out there next time.

I'm from Minnesota so I really don't know much about Catfish. I live in Missouri now and bought a setup large enough to use on cats, so I'm looking for a little info on the subject. My fishing hole is a large pond (about the size of a football field) that is fairly deep (probably over 20feet in some spots.) It's at the very least 10 years old, probably more. I know for a fact channel cats were stocked, but over the years I'm sure some other species have been thrown in. I am targeting any type of cat. I went the other day without the boat and didn't have any luck on cats. I was just using a 3 way swivel with a 1oz. weight and a #4 treble, baited with a whole shad. I just casted it out as far as I could and let it sit. No action whatsoever. Tonight I will be taking the boat out and will have better access to the rest of the lake. I am wondering what type of rig will work good for me, and how to use it. I purchased some pre-made baits that I'm hoping to use. I'm just using a cheap spinning combo with 25lb mono. I'm really not sure what the bottom of the middle of the pond is like. I know for the first 25 feet or so it is a clay bottom that is weedy. What type of structure should I be looking for? And how can I tell what it is without a fish finder?

I used to live in Minnesota and did a lot of fishing. One of the best times was on a trip to Lake of the Woods. Caught some monster Walleyes and Perch in the 12" range and my first Tulibee through the ice, usually on just a minnow or a swedish pimple and minnow-head. Ice was around 3.5 to 4 ft in March. Another winter I went to an eddy on the Snake river in the winter. Caught Pike all morning, my uncle getting the biggest around 28". Went there in the spring also and caught Pike on the surface using spoons or crankbaits. It was an absolute blast. I really miss the fishing opportunities up there. Having 10 lakes in a 50 mile radius was wonderful. I really haven't had much luck in Stockton lake or Pomme either. I'm sure it's just technique or not knowing the hotspots but my fishing now is mainly limited to local ponds that I seem to do really well on.
