please school me on using an indicator
LostMyWife replied to polock's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
Terry The fly shop turned me onto a hot pink bobber with a toothpickto hold it in place. I take it that is a problem. I have done some major searches and think I am ready to rig with a dry up, a dropper down and a scud at the end. That is if the diagram that I downloaded was correct. Any thoughts. Should I burn all of my toothpick and foot balls and move on? WHAT, A BLUE CAT TO A LOWLY BLUE GILL. IF I DELETE MY POSTS CAN I BE A BLUE CATFISH AGAIN? -
Fly fishing is personal, we make our own choices, on how and why we fish this way. There is a place for us all, whether we want to catch one fish or dozens. That sentence seems to sum up a lot of what everyone has said. I liked your article. My Theasurus key is now broken, but I get the drift. Iam not sure what everyone that posts here does for a living. I know a few. I myself am an executive with a restaurant management firm that owns and runs 31 restaurants. The bottom line is that we have one small thing in common. We love to fish. If we leave it at that, the rest will take care of itself. Again, very nicely put LMW

What do you use to put the fish in that you are taking home. I have not seen anyone using stringers, and only a few creels. Plus, and tery, I do not need any grief here, I do not understand how a creel keeps the fish fresh? Do you submerge it, what's the deal.

R U joining in on the meet and drink coffee on Jan 1 -
Welcome to the forum Mango Like Gary said, there is a wealth of info here, not to mention the comic relief. Just watch out for Terry. He gets a little crazy at times. But he is harmless, (sometimes) and a wealth of knowledge. Terry, you owe me $10. Pay or I retract the "wealth of knowledge " part.

If we can get an idea of the number of people we will know how much coffee we need. Rob is ready to bake some banana and pumpkiin bread to bring. It's great at soaking up coffee. Helps keep the caffiene in your system longer, plus, she make some pretty good banana and pumpkin bread. NO CHANCE, NO WAY NO HOW. We covered that in the other post. The idea is to catch fish on a hook, not scare them to death. If that is the goal, just bring dynamite. It is just as efective and we don't get cold. But, from what I read in revious posts, Terry and SIO3 wanted to get a chance to show off a bit.

Why faster water. Everything I have read says that faster water does not hold fish that long. Seems it is too hard on them. So are they less particular in faster water, or is presentaion not that big of a deal in the fast water?

Leonard As it stands right now Rob and I will be there. I believe Growler said he was in as well.

I love going to Colorado. I had to stop because it took me 7 days to drive across Kansas.

My home waters lie in a private lake call Holiday lake just outside of Edwardsville IL, a small bedroom community that is a suburb of St Louis. I can't believe we did't make the list. Oh Wait.........I found it..........OTHER

Now that is just going too far. How can you trash my fondest childhood memories of fishing. Every year I would stand around a 16 foot swimming poll full of trout. One big fish, 3oo,ooo small ones. Standing shoulder to shoulder with 400 screaming kids with a 2 foot rod and a zebco 202. Watching the red and white bobber go up and down and landing the big one. Then watching Dad cringe as he forks over $20 for an 8 inch fish. Ahhh. Those were the days.

NCAA football championship - who should go?
LostMyWife replied to Quillback's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
I just heard on sports center that the BCS had Florida and Michigan in a dead tie. The writer and coaches poll tipped it to Florida. -
ROFLMAO Finally, a Blue Catfish, something I can relate to.

GF Thank you for the post. I did not realize that many C&R fish die. I have not caught enough fish to worry about keeping them, and I don't carry a creel or anyway to keep the fish that I catch. I fish a lot at home. Mostly for catfish and crappie, and I release them as well. I just always thought it was best to let someone else get a chance to catch them as well. I do not feel that my C&R practices should ever be imposed on others. It is my practice, and I the only other fishermen I impose it on is my kids. My Dad always said not to keep anything that you were not going to eat. I try to teach my kids the same thing. What others do is up to them. Your comments have raised some issues for me that I had not considered. If I fight a fish until they are almost dead, what would I do. Until I joined this site I had no idea, and would not have considered breaking off the tippet to let them go. I would have fought them in and released them. Is it always like this at Taney, or is it better when the DO level is higher. This all of a sudden got a lot more serious than I realised. My only consolation so far is that I can't catch trout yet. Thanks for the education LMW

Well the new week is finally here. I think I would be insane right now if not for the distractions that I have gotten on the forum. Sunday's sales were off the charts. Up 20%. Still not enough to make up for the losses on Thursday and Friday, but they were a great start. Brought Jemme home from the hospital this morning. He is on antibiotics for the next 10 days, but that beats the hospital anytime. I am heading out this week. Nothing like driving to Louisville for 3 days of meetings to start the month off right. But that's what pays for the trips to Taney, so I guess it's a wash. Looking forward to the end of the month. Christmas will be behind me, the New Year in front and ice cold water all around. Rob is looking forward to seeing a few of the guys from the website on New Years day. She says she wants to air her side of the story. I keep telling her she has no side. She doesn't listen GNFN LMW

That second reading is off the charts. We do water samples on our lake every week. They are sent to the EPA, and they determine if we can leave the lake open. We have 3 beaches, so we are regulated. Every year the e-coli readings get high. It normally happens after a heavy rain. We have a huge population of ducks and geese for a lake our size. The have to go somehwere, and so far we can't get them to use the porta-johns. So high e-coli isn't always a problem, but I never seen one that high.

Dano I agree. I keep numbers because it is inherent to who we are. BUT, I fish to relax, enjoy nature and relieve the stress that my job provides me with. Fishing is a great distraction. My blood pressure drops and I relax. It is also nice to learn something that is NOT work related. I have software manuals, ops manuals and marketing flow charts that I HAVE to read. It is great reading things that I want to read. LMW

It's JANE your ig.........oh wait, i get it. Hey wait, can we type "Jane, you ignorant sl??" on this site, or will that get us kicked off?

And then they all 3 clicked their heals together 3 times and said, "There's no place like home, there's no place like home." Wait, are any of you guys from Kansas?

NCAA football championship - who should go?

This is going to be a great game. Ohio State vs Florida. The ratings will be off the charts. Why they may get a .5 share that day. I'm thinking about buying TV spots on that game. I here they are going 2 for $1. I HATE the BSC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Gonefishin said something about a fist fight starting with this topic. So far I ain't even seen a soft slap. But, I really like the word elitist. I thought it fit rather well, but being a conservative republican I thought I would look it up. Here's what I found. Elitist.....The belief that one group or individual is superior to another. The belief that some people or things are inherently superior to others and deserve preeminence, preferential treatment, or higher rewards because of their superiority. Well that was just a great definition. But I guess it has a lot to do with the crowd that you are speaking to at the time. That article, posted on that website, which seems to be read or subscribed to by hard core, old school flyfishermen, is probably appropriate. It would appear that this forum is more live and let live as long as everything is legal, ethical, and follows stream ettiquette. So, it may not fly as well here. I just thought we would have a lot more fun with it. So Terry, what is it you really ?

Man, if you think Taney is crowded you out to see Bennett Springs or Montauk. That's crowded. When you fish on public waterways you deal with everyone. That's just the nature of the beast. I'm not saying right wrong or indifferent, just facts.

Tom I have gleamed info from all of the comments posted here. You hit several that were totally new to me but should have been obvious. Thanks for taking the time to add your thoughts LMW -
Gary I read the articles that I found online. I did a few searches and what I found was that I am not ready for the big time with the Canon. The prices that I found were way over the self imposed limits of a weekend shutterbug. The pictures we posted of Tney were taken on disposables cameras. I do want to get past that. I use to be able to hike into the mountains in Colorado with my Minolta Maxxum and take some great shots, but I am far from the point of going out for $3400 on a camera. Not that I would not enjoy it, but I might have to find a new place to live. The Canon EOS Rebel looked interesting. When I go digital I will be looking around the $1K price. I know I will get what I am paying for. I also read that while my lenses would fit the Nikon, the quality of a lense built for a 35mm camera may not yield a quality digital picture. Maybe I need to hang on to my old Maxxums and buy a cheaper digital to take pics on the water. The info you offered up was great. It told me what I needed to look at and that told what I was looking to spend. As always, thanks for the comments
