  1. This moves me to think of one of my favorite TV commercials: "Lodging at Stonebridge....$419" "License, stamps flies....$96" "Gas to and from and Meals....$279" "My First Creek Chub???? What is a freakin Creek Chub?" "$794 frickin dollars!"
  2. My first taney fish, or whatever it is I have VERY large hands
  3. Robbie and I are looking for somewhere closer to St Louis to practice. But, she has seen pictures of Montauk and Bennett Springs. The idea of fishing shoulder to shoulder with a few thousand of your closest friends is not real inviting for her. How many people are there during the C&R season? Is there someplace closer to St Louis, without going to the winter stock ponds in the city?
  4. Must be a slow day. I truely hate "PC", so let's not mess with that. But, if you truely don't like the shortcuts name, add it to your favorites list. Then it identifies it as "OzarkAnglers.Com Forum"
  5. Sounds like my last trip, without the catching fish part. I too am taking the trek from the St Louis area to Taney. Leaving late this afternoon. I'll look for your mug. Happy Thanksgiving LMW
  6. One suggestion. IF you leave out the hot sauce, (required for this to work), ad milk to the eggs and spices. It will make the batter thinner, and make it go farther. Hot sauce will curdle the milk. I have done this with bread crumbs, but not potatoe flakes. Te potatoe flakes sound great.
  7. Proving who you are should be a requirement to vote. In every state. Voting fraud would be drastically reduced. If it inconveniences people, so be it. Inconvenience is better than fraud.
  8. Here is the story. Top Democrat: Bring back the draft POSTED: 6:01 p.m. EST, November 20, 2006 More on CNN TV: Rep. Charles Rangel discusses why he's for the draft in an interview with Wolf Blitzer. Tune in to "The Situation Room" tonight 7 ET. Adjust font size: WASHINGTON (AP) -- Americans would have to sign up for a new military draft after turning 18 if the incoming chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has his way. New York Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel said Sunday he sees his idea as a way to deter politicians from launching wars. He believes a draft would bolster U.S. troop levels that are currently insufficient to cover potential future action in Iran, North Korea and Iraq. "There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft, and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way," Rangel said. (Your e-mails on draft) Rangel, a veteran of the Korean War who has unsuccessfully sponsored legislation on conscription in the past, said he will propose a measure early next year. In 2003, he proposed a draft covering people age 18 to 26. This year, he offered a plan to mandate military service for men and women between age 18 and 42. It went nowhere in the Republican-led Congress. Democrats will control the House and Senate come January because of their victories in the November 7 mid-term election. At a time when some lawmakers are urging the military to send more troops to Iraq, "I don't see how anyone can support the war and not support the draft," said Rangel. He also proposed a draft in January 2003, before the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who is a colonel in the U.S. Air Force Standby Reserve, said he agreed that the U.S. does not have enough people in the military. "I think we can do this with an all-voluntary service, all-voluntary Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy. And if we can't, then we'll look for some other option," said Graham, who is assigned as a reserve judge to the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals. Rangel and Graham appeared on "Face the Nation" on CBS. BTW I was in the last class that faced the draft. My lottery number was 4. I was Viet Nam bound right out of high school. I am not in favor of the draft, but I would have gone. As a father I worry about my sons being drafted. I also agree that no matter who controls congress, the draft is DOA. Reinstating the draft would turn so many democrats into republicans. No way it happens.
  9. The votng montra of the Illinois Democrat.. "When I die, bury me in Chicago. That way I can stay active in politics!"
  10. Terry Slowly but surely I'm getting it. Been doing a lot of reading. I am hiring a guide next week. I hope. It will be my third trip with a guide. The first three put us on fish. We caught fish. They tied the fly, they found the fish, they tied the fly on the line. One actually casted for my wife. This time I need them to teach me what they are doing, not do it for me. I need to go on a teaching trip, not a fishing trip. Hopefully, one will produce the other, but that is not the priority.
  11. I love this. I am coming back on Thursday night. PLan to be fishing Friday and Saturfay. I promise to keep track of my wife. But I am told to use olive scuds, beige scuds or black midges. Now this guy flashes a little orange and he has a 20+ inch brown. What's the report for next week. What should we use, were should we go? I plan on hitting 3 shops that I heard about here. Looking forward to stopping at Phil's Friday afternoon. See ya then.

  17. Thanks Hoover I am a firm believer in buying the right gear once. I spend more but it pays in the long run. Jim
  18. got it
  19. Thanks I will check out Bass Pro
  20. I decided this might be a better place to ask this question. I have seen several references to using light or ultra light spinning gear on Taney for trout. I have not been there many times but I had not seen this done. I assumed that the area below the dam was a fly fishing only area. That being said, can I get some specifics on equipment. Sugestions on reel makes and models, same for rods. Thanks Jim
  21. Looking for info on spinning outfit for trout on taney. I was only there a few times but I did not see anyone using anything but fly rods. Can I get some recommendation on specific gear. Reel make and model, rod make model and length etc.? Any help would be appreciated.
  22. In the Old Testament, any religion other that that of Abraham, (Jewish), was considered a false religion or the worshiping of false Gods. That is my paraphrase, not the Bibles. The wars/battles that Israel fought with the surrounding countries, i.e. the Pharaoh of Egypt, Elijah and the Prophets Of Baal, (reference First Kings, Chapter 18 verses 1 thru 40). Elijah took them to the Kishon Valley and killed them all. Think battle of Jericho, Sodom and Gomorrah, Gods treatment of David's son after his afair with Bathsheba. Bottom line is that you can find examples of some very harsh treatment in most works of religion. The Quran does not have the corner on the market for punishment. Again, it was not my intent to defend, support or build up the Muslin faith.
  23. First, to keep everything in proper prospective, I have 3 children, one is about to get her "Master of Divinity" and be an ordained minister. My oldest son is in his third year at Greenville Christian College, preparing for seminary. I write this so that you know that I am not anti-Christian. While the quotes above are very compelling, there are similar examples that can be taken from the bible. The Christian bible did not have a target like Islam. There are a few passages from the bible that read a bit on the harsh side, especially in the Old Testament. I have read the bible 3 times and the old testament 5 times. I was amazed at the level of destruction that God brought forth to destroy "false" religions. It could be said that it mimicked what was posted above. I would also have you look at the pain that was brought to Job in order to test his faith. Had you just taken specific passages from early verses in Job, you could get the wrong idea. But, having said that, I went to the website. Since I have not read the Quran, I went to some of the passages taken from the Bible. I was amazed at how many were paraphrased and taken out of context. They seemed to be twisted to make a point. Maybe some of the passages listed from the Quran were handled in the same manner. Maybe not, just something to think about.
  24. Joining in a bit late, but i also do not think the DEM's will get us out of Iraq. History should tell us that. Also, while this war or occupation has lasted longer than WW2, if you take into considereation the amount of time we "occupied" the defeated country, as is the case now, I think we are still a bit behind. I am not a vet. My lottery number was 4 when Nixon killed the draft. I have the upmost respect for those that served and continue to serve. Regardles of why we went, or why we are still there, we need do need to get out. But we need to leave a stable government in place so that we do not have to go back again in a few years. Deja Vu
