    Olympics

My DVR is about worn out. I have been driving RObbie crazy watching the Olympics. The Women's gymnastics judges were ridiculous, but the same thing would happen in MLB if you took 2/3 of the umps and replaced them with Little League Umps. The problem is that the new rules make it impossible for the judging to be fair. Forget about their age. The FIG should remove the "age" rule. 16 or 6 they were great gymnists. Bela should be more worried about why a team of 12 years kicked our collective butts. He just has to have something to rant about. When was the last time you saw 2 disqualifications in a gold metal race that gave the US 2 medals? The Australians are filing an official protest witht e Olympic Committee demanding DNA testing on Michael Phelps. They claim the US genetically enginered him with Dolphin DNA. The women's beach volleyball uniforms are not painted on, they are tatoo's. I love the fact that the Oympic committee has decided to eliminate baseball and womens softball from the Olympics due to lack of competion in one, (softball), and the fact that the US will not send it's major league players to the Olympics in the other. Seems like an oxymoron. LMW
  2. Vellvetta and chili pepper is a lot cheaper than flies, even ones you tie. The good part is that if the fish ain't bitin you still got a late night snack. Vellvetta and chili pepper sounds like catfish bait to me Are there catifsh under the dam? Oh yea, the last time I caught that many fish I was crappie fishing during the spawn. That's a hell of a run Leonard! LMW
  3. We plan on spending too much time fishing to have time to cook
  4. Well; From the number of replies I got, I'd say you guys enjoy eating as mucha s fishing, and you probably do more eating. We will check out several of the suggesitons. Being in town for 4 days gives us that luxury. The places at the landing make it easy as we hit the landing almost every day. I imagine it has chaged a lot since our last vivist. Speaking of that, the last time we were down they were building a resyaurant on the water. Is it open? Did someone mention it? I like the idea of leaving the water and finding a good place for lunch that undertands that you have been fishing. I will use mapquest and check out the direction tio your suggestions. Don't stop there, I still need that place for crappie! LMW
  5. Is night crappie fishing the only way to get crappie this time of year in Branson area?
  6. Hey Guys We are looking for a few good places to eat when we come down next week. We would like a good steak that does not require a coat and tie to sit down, or a second mortgage. We would also like a place to get some good fried crappie. I know, I know, fried after a bypass do not go together, but there are some things that we refuse to give up. Any other places would be appreciated. We are staying in Kimberling City, but we will drive just about anywhere within the Branson area. Thanks LMW
  7. The last time we were at "The Landing" the only place Robbie got to was Bass Pro. Almost $1000 later she left. I think I came out ahead on that one.
  8. I think I will vote for myself this year. I am a life long republican, BUT, McCain is a life long democrat pretending to be a republican. I figure I can lie to the American people just as good as both of these guys. I show up for work everyday, something neither of these men can say. Obama has been running for President ever since he was elected to the Senate in IL because the repiblican leadership in my state are dumb as a box of rocks. McCain's only chance is to pick Huckabee. Obama on the other hand has more problems. I can't even type my biggest fear. It is that scary. SO I figure I am the safest candidate. LMW
  9. By all means hire a guide. Speaking from experience, you will have a much better time and you will learn a lot about fishing that area. LMW
  10. 500 posts makes me a long nose gar? Such a noble fish.
  11. This is my 500th post on OAF. I thought it should be in the same place as my first. Thanks guys LMW
  12. We will give it a try while we are down. thanks for the info.
  13. we have been fishing at home almost every weekend. Last year we were able to go out and hit some lakes that were within 2 hours but not this year. The economy seemed to turn a bit when the rebate checks hit, but things have really slowed down now. i think we will see a turnaround after the elections in November. People just want a change and something to feel good about.
  14. That is the second vehicle I have read about floating in Taney. How many swimming 4 wheelers a year do you see? The last one was a pickup that ran over the driver. I would like to see the pics as well.
  15. I bought a boca grip a few years ago. I was fishing for catfish on a regular basis and my thumbs looked like raw hamburger. I bought the smaller pair and paid around $90. It saved my thumbs, but I can't see them being used for smaller fish. I have to say that I have never used the scale built into the handle.
  16. Robbie and I fished the upper and lower San Juan in Colorado. She got spoiled out of the gate because that was her first flyfishing trip. Having said that, the trips we have had at Taney have been MUCH better. The water is more accessible. The scenery is a lot better and the people are great. I have always wanted to hike into some of the high mountain lakes in COlorado. WE did this back in the 90's several times, but we never did it to fish. I can see where that would definelty be a trip of a lifetime. At the same time I want to go to Alaska and fish there. I can't imagine want that is like. I hope allof these places are around for a long time. With proper management, I believe that there is a place out there for all sportman to fish, C&R or not, a true sportsman protects the habitat. Please don't confuse those that come in with nets and strip the waters of all fish as sportsman. It's a choice. If it's legal, then live and let live. If not, I hope the fisherman fishing next to whoever has a badge. LMW
  17. Hey Guys I am a catch and release sometimes kinda guy. Robbie and I love to eat fish almost as much as we love to catch them. We also freeze fish so that we can eat it year round. We are catch and release in a slot. Too small, it goes back. Too big it goes back. One exception is trout, so far, because we have not had enough experience yet to keep any that we catch. I also do not know how to fillet a trout, so back she goes. We do not waste fish, we enjoy them. We enjoy catching them, releasing them and eating them. Guess that makes us hypocrits, but we are happy ones. LMW
  18. Thanks guys My grizzly does not have anything but a 55 lb thrust trolling motor. Can it handle the current? Last time we were down there was not a lot of current or water for that matter. LMW
  19. Staying in Kimberling City at the end of August. I have a 16 foot grizzly with a tiller trolling motor. We can't use gas motors on the lakes we fish at home. Any clues on where we can go and hook up some nice late summer crappie? LMW
  20. After reading several posts I am wondering what to expect when we get to Taney. How deep is the water under the dam? Should we leave our waders at home? Is Fly Fishing even an option for us rookies? If not, is spinning gear an option? Should we bring the john boat and fish somewhere other than the trophy area? Any crappie biting? We need some help guys. This is our first vacation in almost 2 years and we want to enjoy it. LMW
  21. We have not forgotten how to fish. While flyfishing is not our best effort, as mosto f you have seen, we have been known to catch a crappie or two. We have been wearing out that little grizzly we bought last year. Here are a couple we caught a few weeks ago. Robbies went a ound and a half. Mine was 2 pounds. Not bad for crappie. Now all we have to do is figure out how to hook a lunker trout to go with these big crappie. LMW
  22. Hey Dano I told the doctor that I did not want a zipper. I have no intentions of doing this again. I had her use super glue instead. Makes a cool lookin scare! LMW
  23. Leonard I got the PM. While it is a tempting offer, I am a little to close to the post op day to be walking on slippery rocks at night. By the NEXT trip, however, I just might take you up on it. See you at the end of the month LMW
