guys , you have no idea how impaortant this is!!!!! i am 34, 19 yrs ago mom beat breast cancer, only to leave us last year after out she had blatter, lung & bone cancer... my mom used to take me fishing on the white river, when i was small... my dad was not a fisherman, he was always too busy working.. when my mom left last year it made me realize that time is too short to work all the time.. i was starting to go that route, trying to keep money rolling in.. i decided that money is just not taht important. mine & my dad's relationship is not great since my mom left. But what i learned is my mom was my fishing buddy.. When she left i went to the river to fish, brought back a lot of memories, caught a lot of fish, gave me a chance to reflect on what was important & also what i shoul;d be doing with my kids... and thats fish more.. last year i let the grass get high, to go & will continue to do the same, you need this time, you cant get it back & no one can take the best memories like tjhooer was talking about... nothing better than seeing a 4 yr old reeling a nice trout! buy the way nice fish! noe day i'm gotin to satrt crappie fishing

River Boat Modifications
trouthog replied to bsmith6339's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I used to install car audio. Yes as a young man I was the punk we all want kill now with the big boom! Lol Regardless of how waterproof they say you will want to keep them out of direct super soaker areas if you have any. The amp needs air flow or it will shut down in the summer. I will tell you now, keep it away from FUEL unless you want to get a new boat.... U laugh, but being ex military I have seen it all. I would make speaker pods, this way u can angle them how ever you want to make the best sound, not from a great sound aspect, but for listening.. With out a cab there is no sound structure. This is easily done with or by making a couple speaker rings and some of the plumbing strap. Cut the rings and glue or screw rings to strap, form to your liking and cover with an old Cotten t-shirt or sweatshirt. Staple it snug and wet out with fiberglass resin. 1-2 hrs u have a pod, continue to cove in a couple layers of shirt or fiberglass, till it is 1/8" or so thick... You can glass into place if want.. You can even make a simple balsa stick square and cover in glass... Let cure, sand and gel coat or paint to match.... Keep wire runs short to amp and always cross any wires in the boat only if you have to & form a90 degree angle. A cross, tee what ever you want to call it, this will keep interference to a minimum, and no annoying buzzing from the speakers. If it were me I donut them in the front storage area with the speaker baffles from cruthfield.com to keep them dry and seal of the hole. Then the face rear and ever one should hear them... Keep the amp out of the sun, with good airflow, as it draws less power the cooler it runs, so keep the gain to minimum only use enough power to keep volume low and still hear good, this will kill distortion. Hope all that helps... James -
I have considered them, but as an ex-technision rule is grease makes a barrier and if kept packed normally you will never have a prob even if the seal is compromised to some extent. Oil is a whole different beast, once it starts to leak its over. We all know oil and water don't mix. If the seals are not kept changed you run the risk of intermix or running a dry hub. I use bearing buddies, every trailer I have ever seen uses them and for sure if on a boat trailer for the reason i discribed above. With that said I have heard a lot of folks complain of this problem but I don't know anyone personally nor have I ever used. OTR trucks use them with pretty good luck it seems, but again they are maintained better then some of us opt to. Not all but most anyway. My moto is don't mess with what works... I need grease for stuff any way, including my outboard, so I figure why have to buy an additional fluid just for that.... In my time working on tractors, big and small trailers, autos and in the military, everything that was greased was always more protected from elements to the friction, as grease has a way higher load bearing to pressure and friction.
