  1. Crappie fished today. Had 10 keepers, mostly on charturse jigs and a couple on minnows down about 10 & 12 ft. Most crappie on bluff banks around on lay downs. All fish very fat, 3 heavy 13" fish. One male white bass. Put in at 8am & fished until 3.
  2. Put n at Blunks around 4:30. Lots of fish visible on gravel bar and along banks. Not much action unless using minnows. Water clarity very good. Enjoyed watching eagles & hawks catching fish. I wonder if they have a valid license. Great evening on the water, even though I didn't catch any whites.
  3. I went crappie fishing Monday near point 15 & had 10 keepers. Caught them on Chartres jig, boil in standing timber & stickups in coves.
  4. Dogwoods are not blooming. Trees with white flowers in the woods are Serviceberries. Redbuds will bloom before dogwoods. I've always heard, redbuds=white bass, dogwoods=crappie.
  5. I changed to 4# green to better see the line when crappie fishing. Twitches on the line are very visible when the bite is very light. It hasn't affected the catch ratio.
  6. biggest crappie I ever caught at TR was 17 1/4", chucked full of eggs, I took a good look at her, then said, this is an investment and put her back in the water. I only hope the next person who might have caught her, did the same.
  7. Like the man said, there ain't no stinkn walleyes in the James....
  8. Didn't know Charlie's ramp was closed, I was thinking of using it next week, good to know. The ramp at Blunks was fairly busy last night and parking was at a premium.
  9. Fished from 6 - 9pm. A couple of dinks. Not much action anywhere. Watch one guy n bass boat catch 3 males with Alabama rig. Lots of boats, fair amount of waders & bank fishing. Parking lot full. Water clarity about 3 feet, rock ledge still under water.
  10. great animal. Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going down tonight so I'll post results later. Thanks again.
  11. What is water level like at Blunks. Is the rock ledge below the ramp, visible or underwater? Thanks.
  12. What does the water look like today after the rain on Wed nite?
  13. you're so short, you can sit on the edge of a dime...
  14. Fished today, put n across frm pt15, worked bluff towards peach orchard & up James about a mile. Had 8 keeper crappie & 1 white bass. Used both white swimming minnow & minnows. Crappie 10 -15' deep n 20-25' fow. Lots of short fish. Good luck.
  15. Go north past AA bridge, on ur left is a road which goes to creek. I just get out at wire, float boat under it, get back n & float to the James? Good smalle fishing at convergence
  16. Fished tonight from 9pm to 11:30. Not much happening, caught two 13 bass back to back. After that, one small male & really nice goggle eye. Nobody doing much. Fished right below ramp. A guy n a boat in middle of channel caught a walleye. Beautiful evening.
  17. If you're fishing in the Cape Fair area, you can get minnows at the gas station in Cape Fair.
  18. You could try at the Flat Creek bridge above point 15. Old road bed may be exposed, depending on lake level.
  19. Has there been any crappie action around Point 15 on the James or Flat Creek?
  20. Went tonight, got there around 5:30pm. A guy was leaving with his limit of sows. Said he released about 40 fish. Caught them on gray jig. He started at 1pm. We didn't have much luck. Caught just a couple of whites. Not much going on and left about 8:30pm. Water condition was clear and good flow. Didn't see many fish being caught. Appears they were hitting earlier in the day. Isn't that how it works with white bass?
  21. Blunks is located on the James River just below Galena and above Ashers Cane Bottom. It is accessible by boat. There is also a ramp there, but can be difficult on take out due to swift water. I'm going there after work tonight, so I'll post later about results.
  22. Any reports of white bass at Blunks? What are water conditions there? Thanks
