  1. You're very welcome Walcrabass. Please do let us know what you learn. If you're interested in digging information in the future, try using the Google toolbar to be more effective in your searches. It's been an awesome resource for me. And no need to change your avatar to W..., at least not unless you're trying to be one. :-) Good sport!
  2. Good point Jim. I remembered that when I posted above " any and all revenue from the parks does not go into maintenance or any of the day to day operation, but goes into the General Fund." That's not necessarily a (big) contradiction though. I think most people interpreted "general fund" as being the general US federal coffer. It could mean the Corps' general fund. Or it could be another case of gub'mint doubletalk. :-)

  4. Actually; "Cedar Ridge North Boat Ramp is located in the Cedar Ridge Campground. The boat ramp offers a courtesy dock and restroom. The boat ramp is ONLY available to campers during the April 16 through September 30 camping season, but is open for day-use during all other times of the year. Boaters must pay a $3.00 Day-Use fee from March 1 through November 30 to launch their boat from the ramp. Day-Use permits are available in the honor pay vault near the boat ramp with instructions. Annual Day-Use passes are honored and must be displayed." I had to Google two whole words (corps, Stockton) to find the facts. Way less effort than telling a windy. Details for the other Stockton Corps ramps are at; http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Locations/DistrictLakes/StocktonLake/BoatRamps.aspx
  5. As a walleye angler (not on Stockton) bass are e real PITA for me. I cuss 'em, I whine about 'em, and I blame a slow day on 'em. I've never hurt one though, and I don't know any other 'eye chasers that would. A freind tells the story from the '70s about he and another buddy of mine. Seems they'd had a big day sight fishing bass beds on LOZ, and had 8 nice ones on the stringer. When they got back to the resort, the second fellow remembered he hadn't pulled in the stringer before the 2 mile run in their rental john boat. There was one left, the others, strung through the lip, had been torn off on the trip. "Beat their lips off he did!". I should regret laughing like I do every time I hear them tell it, but these two guys... I call 'em Backwoods Bill & Ted.
  6. We'd never poke fun at your small... ...fish. :-)
  7. That one would only count if you caught a big flathead on it.
  8. With all the commentary of "my taxes paid for that ramp", I got to wondering how much I paid, and who I have to share it with. What I found; Of the federal taxes paid by a family with $50K annual income, $12.79 goes to "land and water management". Considering all the seaports, federal parks and other land and water resources competing for that $12, that one boat ramp begins to look like a very small drop in a very big bucket. Another way to look at it is I "own" one 316 millionth of it.
  9. "Annual Day Use Pass The Corps of Engineers was given the authority by the Congress to collect Day Use fees as part of deficit reduction legislation the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993. The funds generated from these fees are used to help pay the operation and maintenance costs in the Corps’ recreation program." 10. Mr. W. Crabass, Please keep in mind that you sources of information are; 1. a private lease holder in the case of a marina ramp, or 2. a low-bid contractor in the case of campground gate attendants. None of these are CoE people. They may have information directly from the CoE, but they also have their own agenda to spin. There's no place like the horse;s mouth if you want the bottom line.
  11. Having had more than all the trout I cared to eat within 30 feet of my front door for nearly a decade, and prepared in every way known to man, smoked trout is it. The ultimate enhancement of that is a smoked trout dip, like any of those above. On a cracker, in a sandwich, or by the spoonful, it's pretty good sh** for a fish that ranks way down the taste list otherwise (IMO). Added And once a trout is properly smoked and flaked, you can get every single bone out of the way.
  12. Two places I hope to patronize in the hereafter... Golden Ox and Arthur Bryants...
  13. You missed the flood around 1990 that douched everything to Houseman slick as a whistle. Trout Unlimited led the charge, and with multi-agency cooperation made it even better than it was. http://www.arkansaschaptertu.org/about/accomplishments What we still choose to ignore is that anything you do there will eventually get washed away again.
  14. I remember at least 2 years where AGFC actively moved washouts back to Beaver, as reported in the paper with some personnel quotes. Unless policy has changed, they don't want any down there. I did the math once on how many $ of hatchery trout (at $2.50/lb) a big lineside can mack in a year, your ~$20 tags wouldn't start to cover that bill.
  15. I weight mine, but I don't anchor them. I tie a rock to the end of the drop, just big enough to make it stand up. Tie your hook on a one foot tag line about 2 feet up. Set the depth to the rock about 6-8' (until it gets really hot, then 12-15'). Drop 'em so they'll drift into a point or dropoff. When the rock touches bottom, the jug stays fishing in the good spot. Rather than just watching your jugs, rod and reel fish in the same area. Quite often one method will tell you what to do with the other. I used jugs to learn where to fish. Now that I know, it's way more fun to rod-n-reel 'em.
  16. Turtles no, gar yes. I've caught some nice kittys on jugs there, but it's often 2 to 1 gar. That said, you need to stay with your jugs on the Rock, cats stay put pretty well, but you may have to search a couples miles to catch up with a gar with a head start.
  17. Fitting name for a poodle. :-)
  18. You're welcome to borrow the name of my last dog (gosh I miss him) Gill... as in Gill Baitsman, the fisherman's amigo.
  19. That happened to me once, only I was (trying to) catch some shad. Threw until I was spent chasing a visible but spooky school to no avail. I backed off to let them regroup and down swooped a big baldie and got a shad.

It just came to me... I don't think any of the acts at Wakarusa sell their music at Walmart. Most are free or almost free on the web. The acts booked at the AMP however, all sell at WM. As a rich redneck once said, "There's your sign..."

7 BV cars between DQ and Kingsland. I turned there, so didn't get to see there to the state line. There were a couple other plain cars circling that looked like spotters. Probably a couple more sitting in the liquor store parking lots at the state line. The traffic was all gawking at the Five-0 show, so there's no way anyone was speeding. Pure profiling. Yeah Quill I saw the Sunday last year, but it was worse tonight. And yes it is more than a little overdone. Surprisingly, they give the "bikers" a pretty fair pass in the fall to BB&B.

True that. I cashed in my measly 401 before the bust and had a steak dinner. If I'm ever able to invest again, you can bet I'll know exactly who has it. Added Not that that matters... except for the retired, the infirm, and a few chicken farmers, everyone around here (present company included) works for WM one way or another.

You didn't get to see the north end. 4 of the six pulled over were north of Bentonville, 3 in a 1 mile stretch in BV. If you had a look at those getting searched you'd know they weren't shareholders. Not unless they're bringing their tents and camping gear for grins and giggles.
