  1. It's too bad that mankind's health problems don't come from smoking, but that would be too easy. I do differ on the reason doctors run so many test however. I think it's due to the fact there is a lawyer advertising on TV that if he didn't you should sue.
  2. How is obesity and type 2 diabetes heavily taxed? There are those who believe it's the number one health villian at this time and rapidly moving to younger children.
  3. You can't stop with smokers Justin if you want to persue that argument. Obesity, bad drivers and the heavy drinkers are just a few of the imperfect humans who raise health cost.
  4. I just believe something more stable then gambling or cigarettes would allow educators to actually plan with some semblance of achieving their goals. You and I know that the extra tax on cigarettes would come from a lot of families that can't afford it. I'm older then most on here and probably more immune to political promises then some. They may have the best of intentions when the promise is made, but it rarely happens as advertised.
  5. I voted against it because it didn't make sense to me to fund schools with something targeted for elimination. They already let the casinos pull a fast one on them. Pie in the sky isn't the way to fund education.
  6. I don't think they should be allowed to litter if no one else can. They should have rented billboards or put signs on private property. It would be hard to challenge that.
  7. I've had some good days on H&L Variant's over the years. Generally fishing the head of a riffled just to see if there is any interest.
  8. Taking anytthing from the wild for a pet should have a penalty to be serious enough to really deter it.
  9. That's true, but they aren't cheap, I have 3 and I think a DT is equal in roll casting for the parks. You also can't turn a TT around. The TT does have a distance advantage.
  10. Aren't there a lot of environmental stresses on them?
  11. Great news!! I saw two in the 70's and 80's in the Niangua, but I've fished it off and on for almost 60 years.
  12. You want a good line for the parks go DT. No one uses them that much any more, but they roll cast great and will lay down soft.
  13. Rackattack.com is another good source. I've bought 2 assemblies from them at real reasonable prices. They have Yakima and Thule fit programs.
  14. True or not Tim, don't forget trout in MO are invasive.
  15. Yup they were here long before the tourist fish were. Could throw trout on the bank I suppose, there is an unending supply.
  16. I'm a big fan of P-line Original which is a co-poly. I think the CXX has a lot of competition because its diameter to strength is matched by a lot of good lines. I've never had any problems with the thinner Original, which is very similar to Silver Thread. I think braid on ultra lights is a waste of money. Braid has a narrow use profile and if it doesn't fit it can give you fits. I don't believe the no stretch is a good match for small hooks and soft rods.
  17. Good for you. I have had no complaints on my Mohawk 13, so you might want to put it on your list.
  18. It will be interesting to read your opinion on the Nanofil. Nice report.
  19. It's feasible to buy 7'5" leaders in a lighter X, shorten it a foot or so and do perfection loops to extend it when you need to. The drawback is that the connections will pick up crap in garden water. If you're having trouble with leaders not straightening the way you like, buy good ones, I think Rio is the current leader, remove your leader when you finish put it in a gallon ziplock and rubber band it to the tube. You might want to buy or make a rubber pad straightening pad. Just remember they straighten using heat and too much will eventually degrade the leader.
  20. I might try one more time pointing out that if he hits someone he might not like jail time. If that didn't work I would be talking to the highway patrol and county prosecutor. That's a dangerous situation that I wouldn't allow to fester.
  21. It appears to be what we called Ladyfingers. I know there are several corals and the one we always ate were more of a pink color. We never had any digestions problems, but we never ate a lot of them at one sitting. It is the time of the years for them. They're good stuff fried, if that is what they are. I'm sure you know that you have to look for the poisonous ones also to compare.
  22. I've used everything but clothesline over the decades and honestly there are variables, IMO, that dictate what's best. For warm water I think furled, homemade twisted or jig made work real well. The bulk of them helps turn over heavy or wind resistant flies. For pocket water what you're using is probably fine if it works for you. For spooky fish requiring long leaders, 12'-15', I still like the good commercials. Not all commercials are equal however, and at this time I tend to lean toward Rio's. A big mistake often made is to match the tippet to the water rather than the fly. That is the the biggest key to a good turnover in my opinion.
  23. Obamacare is not Romney's legacy, if there are flaws blame Reid, he wrote it. You're pulling the standard of having your cake and eating it too, or so it sounds, liberals complain he will please the rich, now you say he has a flaw if he doesn't? The things that I can't live without have virtually doubled in cost while my equity has shrunk and that's enough for me to want a change. I'll take a self made millionaire who rescued an Olympics and governed a state that was dominated by the opposite party before someone who came to office with no experience and hasn't learned much apparently. Jack if you are interested in how a president treats his supporter after the election, I would recommend The Amateur by Klein. It is not a book written by the other side nor does the information come from the Republicans. It is an eye opener and when you find where the bulk of advice to the president actually comes from it is down right scary.
