  1. I'm not sure what effect E-Coli might have on fish, but it shows up on occasion and its always after the fact. On the other hand I would think that between the power plant and what is not removed from the sewer waters, along with the ever present leaky septic tanks it wouldn't be a good idea to overdue eating any fish from the system.
  2. Taney would probably be a poor example given the fact its heavily subsidized by the feds for mitigation. I assume this is still true. I have mixed emotions about the trout put and take in the large cities. For fishermen as a group it creates, or should, another political alliance when it comes to conservation dollars. Many who are big city dwellers see no benefit in many of the MDC programs, but creating a you scratch my back I'll scratch yours mentality changes that in my opinion. If we're going to talk programs that are questionable, lets talk Walleye. There's a very expensive ongoing program to make this state a walleye destination, yet I've yet to see any real evidence that it has any real economic impact. Long before big money was infused into Bull Shoals the jack Salmon run existed and its not a whole lot better today than it was than.
  3. What will constitute a Marina? Will it be the gas dock and the always present store, or will it be all docks in the complex?
  4. Go to the Corp of Engineers site, Kansas City district, and pull up the map. It will give you a lot of access points. Stockton would be another, it has a lot of bank access at the town of Stockton.
  5. I've been told by those that know, color can be important. Top colors are red and yellow. Top flies small crawdad imitations and SJW's tsmith, not sure about striking, that doesn't sound like carp, but they do jump at times and always seem hard to catch when they do.
  6. If the past is any example it could be parked a long time. You guys that fish it from a boat are going to have to build some brushpiles on the flats east of Beaver, then you'll have some at a reasonable depth.
  7. Its probably as good as the Banjo Minnow.
  8. You can't fix stupid.
  9. While it wasn't me, I witnessed what had to have been a Bennett fisherman's worst nightmare. I was fishing above the dam, back when the area was flat and about 2' deep except for a channel on the hatchery side. I heard someone come into the water just off my left side and for some reason in a hurry. He made it about 10' and then fell, and that's when the fun began, he bounced back up as if he hoped no one noticed and took about two steps and fell again. He jumped up from the second fall just he had the first and then immediately fell again. By this time his waders were so full he could hardly stand, but he did and then stood there for about a minute to finally gain his composure and then slowly left the stream.

    Thanksgiving

It uses infrared heat and it does come out like an oil fried. There is a screen lid that you use to crisp the skin like a fried turkey. You remove the lid when you like the skin and finish cooking without it. I did about 3 turkeys in a fryer, loved every one of them, but not enough to go through all the trouble. I anyone is interested, do a search for the Big Esay, its by Char Broil, and watch the video. It does work.
  11. Very nice!
  12. That's a trick picture there friend, I know you've put on some happiness. Judging by the condition, its healthy, and the mouth I'll go 8-12.

    Thanksgiving

Two turkeys, one in an oil less fryer and one smoked. Both are fresh and will be brined with special mixes.
  14. Not all trotlines are armed, some leave the running line and remove the drop lines. I generally don't have a problem with this as long as its deep enough and well marked so that others don't snag it, but that's not always the case. If your focus is catching some cats on the trotline however, you'll do better in shallow water over night.
  15. The depth depends on the time and place. A snaggy area in 10-20 feet of water is fine for daylight. I always like fishing them at night and then a shallow flat or saddle would be my choice. under 10' is fine and can be very productive. For jug lines its best to have some form of adjustment, up to about 6-8'. I don't see much use it using jugs on a lake except at night. Baited with perch, they are best for Flatheads in my opinion.
  16. Eric many of the easy casting lines, like Headstart and others, make good lines for the air resistant bass flies. It won't be a loss if you start with one of them and avoid bad habits that can be a curse. If you develop good form you can pick and choose a line at will. No one has mentioned Double Tapers, which for me is the only choice for roll casting.
  17. Sounds like the basis for a good thread, but the task will be near impossible without a reference point. I would think length, or girth, not both would be best. I wouldn't call this typical, but it is on overprotected and poorly managed ponds. I'm not ripping anyone's management, most farmers have other things to worry about, but it does happen.
  18. Eric WF is a general description, and they aren't all created equal. The last thing you want starting out is a WF built for distance, but requiring near perfect form to cast.
  19. I have the same on a couple of my rods, except they're marked at 16 and 18"s. Anything less I guess, and then add a couple inches for good measure.
  20. I haven't kept many Blacks, mostly from ponds that the owners wanted thinned. I know I've seen eggs in them late in the summer, but as I said they were small and very tight in the sack. I don't know anymore than that, but I would assume there has to be a certain amount of time for development.
  21. I'm not a lawyer, and that's probably the only person who give you an honest answer. You're making a donation also and I would assume that your liability would cover it, given the fact its a financial loss. It would be easy to run it by your agent.
  22. My sons Skeeter cover was made by Aurora and its as nice as I've seen. Really first class.
  23. I loved it, but there is always a little reality to consider, they had 47 yards in the first half.
  24. If its truly close to 24"s it should push 7 given the girth. The picture with it in hand however doesn't show it to be over 5 at best, unless your hands are huge. If however you want it to be your personal best at 7#s, your argument is as good as any.
  25. It was probably eggs, they carry them a long time before they spawn. They will be small and tight in the sack until the spawn gets close, then they get larger and the sack looser.
