  1. Pontoons are nice on small lakes and wouldn't, be bad on large ones if the wind never blew. They cut through the wind like kite.
  2. My experience is that they move to either warmer water or deep holes with cover. It seems that any migration is determined by the distance to these areas.
  3. I have a solo and a sot kayak and for lakes the yak would be my choice. The only other craft that I might consider would be small tandem canoe with a trolling motor. A canoe would be a bear in any wind without some help.
  4. I think the computer did a good a job on K State. They are 10-2 and lost to OK right after they came off a 3 point loss when they were ranked 3rd, they then lost to OSU, again ranked #3. I don't see them above AR, but apparently the computer has some of their opponents lower than the coaches or sports writers I still believe the flaw is in the commercial polls, there is no way a busy coach or a sports writer a continent away can judge all that is involved. The computer is a compilation of 6(?) computer rankings averaging the middle 4. The only human involvement, as I understand it, is putting in the data. There are just to many teams playing on any given weekend for an individual to realistically pick, IMO. The bowls this year are a good example of failure. Of the top 10 teams, only 6 are playing in the 5 BCS games.
  5. Justin I was speculating using the computer only and I did match them wrong, if they were straight up. I would hope though they would match them up to avoid any who had already met until the final. If I'm not mistaken the computer has them LSU, OSU, Alabama and K State.
  6. The trout park suggestion is a good one and there should be one near you if you live in Missouri. I wouldn't recommend Taney for a maiden trip. One big advantage of the parks is visibility, you will be able to see your drift and see how the fish react.
  7. In the days of the trappers and explorers navigable was often any waterway that had water and could therefore considered a landmark for navigation.
  8. It would just be one more game J, the final. It would pit the first four against each other rather than the bowls matching 3 and 4 up with whoever they want. This year it would have been LSU vs OSU and Alabama against K State.
  9. I would love to see that if they would scrap the opinion polls and go with the computer, which has no area, conference or wild guessing ranking by humans. I would like to see them carry it further and make the bowls take odd against even ranking starting with number 5. The end rankings should then be loser right behind the winner.
  10. How do you figure JD? Don,t deeds say more or less acerage and avoid any mention of specific features?
  11. I suspect there are two problems. The first would be spring rains. There have been a few years when they streams blew out every other day or so it seemed. This would wash a lot of eggs in to the lake where they can't hatch. The other thing is the colder winters that we have had and which will kill off the Threadfin in large numbers. The sand bass lakes farther south have also seen colder wetter, but not to the extent we have.
  12. I'm not sure how it will apply to streams. Dams generally extend well beyond the high water mark, as do the inpoundments. It would seem that unless they specifically refer to the portion of the dam in the original stream bed it will be another wash. I suppose we will have to wait and see.
  13. OK I'll ask, I've been tying for many decades and I'm having a hard time picturing an "olive/pearl/purple/grizzly woolybugger"? Tail, body, hackle, hackle?
  14. It seems like just when you think all the stocked fish are dumb, they throw in some that apperntly aren't.
  15. To me just seems to be nothing short of ridiculas to have two teams from the same conference division who have already met to play for anything outside their conference. LSU beat Bama, but can they beat a conference champion from another conference?
  16. The computer is cold and just looks at the record of the opponents and it has OSU second. Alabama had their chance and if they beat LSU this time who is better? I don't think one out of two means much. KCrat, if Boise didn't play a soft conference they might gey more attention, but when you don't have to worry about injuries and the like it's easier to win. If they had run over TCU like they generally do they wouldn't have needed a field goal. If if if.
  17. Or wild.
  18. Once again the human element ignores the fans and sets up what they think they missed earlier. Apparently the sports writers and coaches still want to know who is better LSU or Alabama. I wonder if they realize there won't be a best 2 out of 3?
  19. I've done well above 44 in Nov.,but I haven't been in a couple of years. Jerkbaits always worked for me during this period.
  20. The Metolius and the Deschutes rivers in central Oregon are well managed producers of beautiful wild Redbands. They are fisheries, especially the Deschutes, that are worth the trip.
  21. Your friends boat is still in dry dock.
  22. Smallmouth, Missouri's native answer to trout.
  23. If you had brought waders. One of your "friends" could probably have fixed you up with gear.
  24. I suppose it depends on what you want to read in that. The first point I took was that the original pool of fish put in Crane could have been hybrids. The second thing is they evolved into a wild strain and any stockings since have been re-stockings. If I read it right it suggest that these re-stockings were from Crane fish raised in the hatchery. That was my take from a brief read.
