  1. Ouch. I hope that passes quickly.
  2. That was my experience also. We were at RR and went to the White on the way home. I'm not exactly sure where, but I do remember being told the James was just downstream. Like all youngsters we wanted to hit the James also, but there wasn't enough time. I fished Bull Shoals a few times with my dad in the mid 50's and I remember the lake then. The first time we fished it was shortly after it had filled most of the flood pool and the lake was lined with freshly killed trees. I always thought it was so much uglier than the "Lake". Back then, at least in Western MO, "The Lake" referred to LOZ.
  3. So our pike and goldfish are in big trouble? Only one rainbow?
  4. beautiful pictures. I glad you guys are sharing because that's the only way I will see scenes like that! Having had a couple of instances of being privy to good information concerning people who drowned because of cold water, I'm a little fearful. There are ways to get around the dangerous side of it however. Dry suits are the best, but expensive. A good substitute is a pair of neoprene's, belted snugly with a dry top. The waders will keep seepage to a minimum and a cheap dry top might leak a little at the gaskets, but you won't get soaked. Wear wool under it, wool is warm even when wet and quick dry fleece under the waders. This won't mean you'll remain comfortable, just alive. When I fished the real late fall and early winter from a water craft I started wearing this outfit when I thought the water was reaching 50 degrees.
  5. That's almost funny if it wasn't laced with so much BS. I see two serious flaws, the obvious of course is Mizzou being left out. Another is that Stanford hasn't exactly been a power house, more like opportunist who fills in for The required California team when USC is down. Alabama being given a high ranking because of a senior QB in the wings doesn't make much sense. Auburn snuck up on a lot of people this year and they may not have the horses to do it again. I think a realistic poll would simply say watch the teams that have proven QB's returning and a good percentage of offense and defensive starters. Beyond that it will done on the field. Here's one that does go a little more on facts then fiction, maybe? The mix looks accurate, but standings aside from the fact that FSU gets the traditional nod with the NC under their belt and the Heisman QB coming back. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/rankings/2014/01/07/college-football-top-25-rankings-for-2014/4327545/
  6. I generally get something new every year, but not this year. This year has been sparse for goldfinches, wrens, and even the number of chickadees is down? I generally see 2 or 3 sparrows, but the song is the only show this year.
  7. The only time I slept in really cold weather, elk hunting, it was 3 on a thermometer in the early morning. We slept in a commercial tepee with a16' bottom radius. It had a small stove in the center, but it didn't do much good. I think it was too tall. I slept in a down Mummy bag inside another sleeping bag and did alright.
  8. Maybe they should continue? That should keep the kids out of the water.
  9. Now Laker accidental snagging is not illegal, no matter how many times you do it.
  10. I'll look through what I have and see if it's worth it and get with you. Can you do it?
  11. I wasn't surprised at USC's ranking, don't agree with it, but they did beat MU, barely. It all went as I expected, but i wasn't sure where OU and AL would end up. The truth is AL is probably better then many in front of it. The only thing Auburn can really claim is that they sated with them. Surprisingly OU is the only team in a few years to really beat them, even if it was close. I think AL rather than Auburn will be the team again next year. Well just to be hard to get along with and pop some bubbles, I have to point out that the SEC only played 1 game where they ranked behind their foe, and they lost. With the exception of LSU, schools from the states of Alabama and Florida have won all the NC games, kind of like the big 3 and the 10 little indians.
  12. Well my thought would be to trim it up and weld a piece in. It won't be real smooth, but it will probably get you a few more years. Another option would be to plant flowers in and buy a Buffalo second from the factory. I'm assuming they still offer them from time to time. It's tough to get anything short of welding to stick to that plastic.
  13. Well what creature wouldn't being hand fed? Did you ever notice most humans at a buffet?
  14. I often wondered if he wasn't more interested in running those short patterns which hurt his confidence. As far as the team next year, all college teams go through this and it will depend on how balanced the nucleus is.
  15. It also helps to have gloves. A pair of jersey gloves work fine and can be washed.
  16. Did this trip top the others in terms of the amount of snow and temperatures. I know you have had some in snow in the past, but in comparison?
  17. I would guess it might have been a bobcat with kittens. possibly they are used to cleaning up fish that don't survive the release? Bobcats aren't bothered by water. I know that herons in some instances will actually come very close to you if they see you cleaning fish, I mean within a few feet.
  18. That's the way I generally do it. I take out the backbone, but generally leave the ribs. I wish the fine bones were easier to remove. I also pressure cook them and then break them up while removing the bones. I then use the meat to make patties. I also hit some with smoke, 30 minutes, and then bake them, bone them and mix the meat with cream cheese, onions and a splash of lemon juice. Great on crackers.
  19. Actually I believe I have some taken at Bennett, circa early 60's, but unfortunately they are on 35mm slides.
  20. We get visited by Flickers, Downeys, ladderbacks and occasionally a Pileated. The first 3 only come to a feeder with oils in it. The pilaeted is local. but elusive. The flickers will often get the oils and go deposit them in tree bark. They will spend a while doing it and make several trips, pretty smart I suppose.
  21. My first trip to RR, zone 3 was a lake with paddle boats for rent. I still remmebr that the short stretch of stream between F and the lake was heavily wooded on the banks and thick with water snakes.
  22. Little Rock COE would be the place to get first hand info on that.
  23. Its a good thing that Mauk has a good arm though because I don't think he'll be able to run as well next year. The threat will open other options though.
  24. I've fished upper Taney when it was in the 20's a few times. it does help to have a truck and heater close by however.
  25. I thought i had read on one of your past trips that you trucked the wall tent in. I can see where you would need to split up the gear for it and tools for firewood. It appears that you have a stove and i know they are bulky.
