  1. I wasn't unsatisfied Ham, but I did worry about the OL. They were having problems from the first snap and Dallas jumped on it. They did regroup later either from better play calling of the line getting stiffer. Anytime a 2 win team from last year beats the Cowboy's in their second game of the season it's noticeable, especially coming from behind. Coming from behind was noteworthy to me.
  2. I'm thinking he means in the east.
  3. Mart it's hard to say, but the primary diet of grass carp is vegetation, especially moss. I mentioned cattle because if the water shed has them it can be rich in nutrients. I would worry that a 47 pound plant eater might be eating things you don't want too much of in the pond. Common carp aren't known to bother bass nest that much. The male guards them, unless a fisherman pulls him off and lets the perch run amok in it. The problem with ponds more often then not is C & R. They get stocked and protected far beyond the period where the stockers spawn and restock it.
  4. Well my take is that the O line needs to improve a lot. I didn't see a whole lot of problems other than that. There are always mistakes and wrong bounces, but overall I think the defense kept them in the game and the offense managed to overcome their problems often enough for Smith to take advantage of it. As always time will show just how good the Cowboys are, but they aren't weak by any stretch.
  5. If you're referring to me Al, I didn't say anything about the national debt, but did say that mitigation hatcheries are a debt owned to those whose lives were changed by the dams built for many people who only have positive experience from them. Didn't say we should stop foreign aid either, just that "If they can send money out of the country and fund every little piss ant grant, they (can) fund their mitigation debts."
  6. Games like these always screw with the armchair QB's mind. Are the offenses that good? The defenses that bad? Good grief how do we predict the season now? I suppose that's what makes it college football and not the pros. In the pros you know they will lose and it's how many. With college ball there's always the chance they will go all the way.
  7. Of course they would consider mitigation hatcheries because they would cause the biggest negative impacts on the economy. The problem with that is first it's a debt owned to the people around the tailwaters for destroying the native environment. The second thing is it's time for the politicians to quit with the tantrum throwing over how much money they can throw around. If they can send money out of the country and fund every little piss ant grant, they can fund their mitigation debts.
  8. I think that is the official story and probably true. The problem I have is that they were ever allowed in. The same thing with snakeheads in the east. It would take and idiot, or government official that could care less to not know that eventual escape was likely. The early grass carp introductions were guaranteed to be safe because they were either sterile or one gender, it depended on which official report you read. They have worked well in ponds where only one was present and there was no danger of escape. Mart your friend will probably regret removing the grassie, especially if there are cattle near the pond.
  9. Well it's half time so no score prediction, but I've always thought Johnny snuck up on them last year and ain't gonna happen this year.
  10. They still have to eat to grow.
  11. I think there is a partial solution and one of the things that the government could certainly attack under mitigation for allowing them in the country to begin with. Canned fish is both nutritious and tasty and there is no reason these fish couldn't be sold in outlets and distributed to the needy. All the government would need to do is introduce the seed money to get the ball rolling. I would imagine there would be no shortage of people who would like to spend their work day on the water.
  12. That's just too funny.

I wouldn't agree with that. The reason for program is to get athletes, no matter what their economic status is a college education. With the heavy practice schedules, classroom time, and home work many have trouble keeping their grades up and especially getting a degree. It's not hard to see that going south in a hurry and the players making a pass at school for a couple of years, failing and then sitting out another year before heading to the NFL.
  14. Have you cleaned one.? I've heard that they aren't bony like the commons are, but I've never put a knife to one. I wonder how long it will be before they reach Flippen?
  15. There is no doubt that fish can be conditioned. We see it most often probably in the trout park where they lie at your feet or carp waiting to be fed at docks and such. No doubt LOZ has some quirks that other lakes don't have, but it's still full of fish eating daily.
  16. The wakes on LOZ are definitely more common, but not new. I can't really say when they began at a high intensity, but it was going on about 30 years ago on the east end. I don't think it bothers the fish. It might dictate their patterns, but they will still eat and pattern.

I'm not as enamored with the SEC as you are. They have always been an above average conference and had some top 10 teams, but so have others. They've had a run lately and by shear numbers should have more than most conferences. There is and always will be an ebb and flow in the rankings and some will always have a contender or two. The problem with the BCS was two fold in my opinion, one was allowing any conference an automatic bid because that insured that some team would taint the quality. The second thing was the voting by humans. It's not hard to question the sports writers, but it's insane to allow the coaches to vote. Allowing them to vote insured two things, that they would vote up their schedule and that you would have guess vote. Does anyone really think a coach has time to study the other teams all across the country during the season? You can be sure that Bob Stoops, for example, knows very little about Florida or Miami and therefore doesn't know if Florida is weak this year or Miami strong, or anything else about them. You can bet he knows a lot about Notre Dame. I think the BCS would be fine with some changes, first no conference shoo ins, computer ranking strictly from match up stats and 1 plays 3, 2 plays 4 to settle the top 4 teams. Winners meet. just for the record, OU is about 2-1 against the SEC. Not that I want to deflate anything here.

Naw. I love my college football and i don't want money making it dirty. There hundreds of kids who get a college education free of charge who never go to the NFL. What you're suggesting is a minor league where possible will be moved in and out of the minors. The NCAA needs to be revamped to be level in their enforcement and not just bounce around like they do now in a hit and miss. The only changes I want to see are more even enforcement and the big bowl games fought between teams who have been really tested through the season. No one big game Cinderellas.
  20. Old Plug I remember when the Niangua arm was a hotspot, or so the newspaper article said in the early 50's. In my later trips to the Osage there were a lot of eyes caught every spring. Today you don't hear anything about eyes and LOZ, did they die out, best kept secret, or nobody looking? In this state, where I was born and lived most of my life, if you look hard you'll probably find.

I think the BCS should take the lead and require a compliance officer in every program. The school would pay the salary and the officer could not have had any relationship with the school or the conference. The officer would only stay at one school 5 years or something like that. It would be a great position for ex players not able to move to the NFL. They have to do something to overcome the distrust fans have in the enforcement of rules.
  22. Daniels biggest problem might be in Bray if/when he matures. He looked really good in pre-season even though it was against the bench. His line was off the bench also.
  23. Everybody all ready knew that because LOZ was fished out decades ago.
  24. I suppose it depends. There are a lot of places that are no secret and unless you give gps points I see no reason to be secretive. A lot of the places mentioned on here concerning white bass were making the rounds word of mouth decades ago. Some areas simply can't stand much pressure and I think the obligation to protect them out weighs any reason to share.
  25. Ham the trout park jigs have a slim head and are all marabou. They aren't the chenille/ 'bou round head jigs with gold hooks, if that is what you're thinking of. In looking at pictures of the Zig jigs they look to be the same as the 40+ year old 3/$1 park jigs.
