Ok, thanks for the explanation. Would you be afraid of this motor if all things checked out on it? Please understand I won't hold anyone responsible for any advice given. If I decide to buy this boat it was my decision and if the motor craps out its all on me.

Thanks fishinwrench. I had heard that about the 150 Force. Even the die hard Force supporters told me to stay away from that one. When you say "detonate" what exactly are you talking about. I can usually mechanic if I have a good manual but for the most part I am more of a woodworker

I know what you mean. I have never had a motor bigger than this 85 Force and it is not a gas sipper. Used to have a 16 foot tracker with a 35 Merc on it. It was a fill up in the spring and again in the fall. Cheap to run but I sure got wet in that tracker plowin through the waves. I did drive an old Champion once with a 150 on it, scared the crap out of me at full throttle. Biggest problem I got is it takes two trucks or two trips to get the camper and the boat to the lake.

Yes, it is in dry storage at Stockton lake at a marina with a ramp so we can put it in the water. I had assumed that if the motor ran smooth, topped out quick and pushed the boat to plane quickly then the motor would be good. I may also be able to talk to the mechanic that did the work on it this spring which would be a plus and it is possible he did a compression test on it anyway. Thanks for your input, just would like to move to a boat that fishes a little more comfortable than my repurposed Bayliner runabout and would also let the kids have some fun.

Thanks Brian. I called Ulrich parts counter and asked about the availability of parts and she ran through a list of parts that were available but none of them were internal engine components (rings, pistons etc.) so that was my concern. I love my older Force motor and if it was bigger I would move it to a new boat in a heartbeat. Only trouble I have had with it in 8 years related to the fuel line and then it didn't leave me on the water, just wouldn't open up and run so I had to idle everywhere I went. I had planned to do a compression check on it, is there any other check I should do? I know the owner had a mechanic change plugs, lower unit oil, impeller etc. this spring but he didn't know if a compression check was performed on the engine. I figure if this motor has run since 95 and has been maintained it should be good to go.

Hello all. I am looking at a 1995 Quantum fish and ski out of K.C. that has a 1995 Force 120 motor. I know the Force motor is a source of much debate on dependability and such but I am looking for an honest opinion on these engines. I have a Force on my Bayliner that I fish out of now but it is an '85 model 85 HP so it is old enough it is all Chrysler and is pretty much bullet proof. These later models, from what I can tell, are pretty much Chrysler upper end and Mercury lower end. Should I even be considering this boat/engine combo? My concerns are: 1. Is this engine durable? 2. Can I buy parts and if so are they as simple to work on as the old Force/Chrysler engine? 3. Is the Force 120 big enough to push an 18' Quantum fish and ski so I can pull a skier or a couple of people on a tube? Also, if anyone has a fish and ski for sale, let me know. Or, if anyone is looking for a cheap fishing boat, I am trying to sell the Bayliner. The deck is bad in it but it has a second layer of plywood over it and I have used it that way for 8 years and it will probably go many more as is. Thanks.

Put in at Linn Creek Campground and fished a few coves then went up around Larry's on the Lake. Probably caught 20-30 fish but only 6 keepers. They were small males with one female. Had to leave for work at noon and didn't get on the water till around 9 so it was a short day. Question is, are they done there or have they not started. I didn't catch anything on the bank. Trying again tomorrow if the rain isn't to bad, but I may go to Roach or PB 2 to my old honey holes.

That top water bite on those is one of the greatest. When my son was too young to cast it I would cast one out on the pond, jerk it twice and they would hit it. Then I would hand the pole to my son and he would reel it in. He's 16 now and can cast his own but I sure miss those times.

Thanks. I thought that is what it would be but I wasn't sure. By the way, like your screen name, that is my favorite thing to fish in my pond with in the hot summer time. Never fails.

I have seen the A rig talked about on here but I have no idea what it is. Could someone explain this for me?

Is Taylors the bridge on Sac River Road? Just trying to get my landmarks for future fishing. Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I think I might actually have the chance to get my boat out Friday and head up to Roach on the lake to chase some crappie.

Is there any public access at the J Hwy bridge or can you only get ther by water?

Yesterday we were short on time. We didn't leave Marshfield until 3 so I went where I knew I wouldn't get lost. We went to Blunks in Galena today and we only caught two. They were there and some of the guys that had been there all day had some nice stringers but no limits. We could get them to bite but when you set the hook they would open up and let go. Everyone seemed to be having the same issue. You could see em take the jig and you could even turn em when you tried to set the hook but they just wouldn't be caught today. We went back over to SR and didn't catch anything. I need to get to know the other areas over there round Forsyth. If the weather cooperates I might try to catch some crappie at LOZ next week.

Fished from about five till just after dark. Two of us caught five whites. Not as productive as I would have liked but I only seen one other fish caught by the other folks there so I feel like we did OK. Everyone else was using white but we caught them on the grubs in the picture.

Ok. Went down to Forsyth this afternoon after Easter dinner. Started fishing around 4:45 and fished till around 7 at Shadow Rock. We caught five whites. One male and 4 females. We caught them all on either yellow grub or watermelon and yellow grub. Trying to post pics but can't figure out how (if someone could direct me on this it would be great). Wasn't as productive as I would have liked but at least we caught some. Only seen one other person catch a fish so I feel like we did OK. Thinking about going to Galena area tomorrow.

Thanks guys. I think I am on information overload. I am a research kind of guy then I get to much info and I can't make a decision. My choices at this point are Blunks, Shadow Rock or Roach on Lake of the Ozarks. Guess I will let the weather be my guide. Thanks again for the info and I will try to post by Wednesday on my decision and a report on what the results are.

What do you catch these whites on? I have a lot jigs and such for fall fishing for em at the lake but have never chased em in the river during the spring.
-
Ok. I see it. There is a house right there by the access. Thanks for the info.

Wayne, I just caught what you posted about TR. Are you talking about in the lake? If so, where is a good place to put in? I have an old bayliner open bow that has been converted to a fishing boat. I don't like to motor too far cause with that old Force/Chrysler motor it sucks gas like it was still 80 cents a gallon. Also, do you fish the brush, docks or banks for crappie on TR? I have only fished Lake of the Ozarks but would love to be more than a one lake fisherman.

Thanks for the info. I have found Blunks access on the map but I can't seem to find Walnut Springs. Is that a town or an access?

I am looking for a place to fish next Monday and Tuesday. My brother is coming up from Texas for our annualy fishing trip. We normally take my boat up to Lake of the Ozarks and crappie fish. I am afraid with the cold weather this week the fish won't be bitin up there. I don't think my boat is good for fishing in the James so I was curious if there is a good place to fish from the bank. I have fed more people white bass than any other fish and they always leave satisfied, I love catchin em and eatin em.

Thanks for the information. I went to the website and it seemed easy to read. I work for a co-op as a dispatcher but we have very little generation and don't deal with it very often so I was unaware of this website. Thanks again.

Thanks for your post. I am new to fishing the Swan Creek area. Is there a website for a person to find out if there is flow through Powersite or is it just luck of the draw. My brother is coming up from Texas the first week in April. We usually fish for crappie at LOZ but with the weather so cold I need a backup plan to get him on some fish while he is here. Thanks

Hello everyone. I am from Marshfield and fishing is the thing I love the most. I grew up in Texas county and fished the creeks and streams down there. Now I have an old junk boat and fish mainly Lake of the Ozarks. My favorite time is early fall fishing for whites around Roach or Shawnee Bend but I also like the Crappie in the spring. I'm headed to Branson in a few days and thought I would try out bank fishin round Swan or Beaver creek and round Powersite. Any advice would be helpful and I look forward to sharing the information I gather as my son and I run the lakes and rivers.
