    Bluegill

Redear are getting huge (exceeding five pounds) in Lake Havasu Arizona due to their consumption of zebra mussels. Blue Catfish like to eat those mussels also.

Coppernose will die out in central MO if you have a cold winter. Their northern limit for good survival is close to the AR-MO border, from what I have been reading. The first picture looks like some sort of hybrid bluegill. Bottom is a coppernose male. I wonder where those were caught?

    Bluegill

I just wondered about this. By feeding carefully managed bluegill in a farm pond, they will grow to over a pound in about three to four years, with a few reaching two pounds and 12.5 inches. You would think they might grow at least half as well in a good lake environment like Beaver.

What's the largest Bluegill anyone on here has seen come from Beaver Lake? According to charts, a one pounder would be 10-1/2 inches long. Personally, I have never seen one bigger than about 8.5 inches from Beaver.
  6. Beaver Lake Regs do not allow overnight camping anywhere but designated sites. Being able to primitive camp on Beaver went out in the 1970's.
  7. How big of a boat do you want? HP?
  8. 1.1 inches last night and 0.25 inches today.
  9. I've had fun raising channel cats. Started harvesting them in earnest this summer. Have taken about 87 pounds of 2 to 5 pound channels out since early June. It's a lot of fun with light / ultralight tackle. Is it worth the 400 pounds of feed? Can't say yet.
  10. I will NEVER AGAIN own property with a POA of any sort.
  11. Beaver is a very under rated catfish lake. Very good from Monte Ne on south to the headwaters. Very few people fish specifically for catfish. It can be done.
  12. One of the main reasons I have not been on Beaver since 2015. When I do, I hope to stick to the back of coves, or upriver from Beav-O-Rama. It's scary out there for a 16 foot modified vee with a 25 HP motor. Is that kayak (Yak) guy still around, and not been run over?
  13. Rain total here in the headwaters was 3.9 inches. It could have been a much worse Beaver Lake flood if the rain core had shifted 15 miles to the SE. Many places in Fayetteville reported over 7 inches.
  14. It looks like the White River headwaters are far enough east and south to avoid all but the tail end of the coming storm. Almost all of it will skip off to the north. For a big flood on Beaver, it needs to rain a lot south and east of a line from West Fork, AR to Huntsville, AR. Most of Fayetteville, Springdale, and Rogers lies in the Illinois watershed.
  15. Only 1/4 inch of rain overnight here in the White River headwaters. Heavy rains in the northern half of the lake won't affect the levels drastically. I think we are going to get by with less than 2 inches total in the headwaters.
  16. Hopefully, none will go south, then be trapped south of the bridge by a rising lake.
  17. Here is the latest prediction from NOAA.
  18. The folks at USDA released their drought monitor map today. It says most of NW Arkansas in in moderate to abnormally dry drought. Those folks just keep releasing much the same maps time after time, totally asleep at the wheel. According to them we need about seven more inches to break the drought.
  19. I think they should go ahead and open the flood gates a small amount now, and stabilize the level, hopefully drop it a little, before the predicted flooding this weekend. Otherwise, we may see 1131 plus. Most weather services are still predicting around 5 inches as of noon today.
  20. Substantial flooding is coming down from the headwaters towards Beaver Lake. The small creeks were out of their banks a few hours ago.
  21. Notice I said 1126 PLUS. We are up to 3.5 inches now...probably will end up with 3.6 to 3.7 inches in the headwaters area.
  22. We already have over 3.3 inches of rain here in the White River headwaters. All the little creeks have been out of their banks. I think we will see 1126 plus by Sunday.
  23. I would like to see all the docks gone. It would be like remoter parts of Bull Shoals.
  24. Politically correct in this situation means if one reports them one might be considered a racist. The ones I have suspected of selling fish are always foreigners who grew up doing so in another country.
  25. I could tell you several stories about commercial fishing of game fish in NW Arkansas. It's not politically correct to report the people that are doing it, and I doubt enforcement would go after them.
