  1. I do not like Fast tip In the fast tip range for action. Just pick the rod up off the rack and put the tip on the floor upside down and flex the rod you can see the action and feel the strenght. I will not buy a rod unless I have ran it through that test. MH with a M action jist about covers all my fishing needs. I have a M with M action that I like to use with early spring Rouge and other lures. It delivers the rouge softly. That is the reason I can cast a Rouge without a lot of problems. As far as I am concerned a heavier rod with a fast tip is a fish loosing rod.
  2. I can eat a lot. Of them with mitch's potato recipt. Last bunch I used vinegar and salt potato chips I add some. Paprica also.
  3. There you go BO learning the potential and everything about a lure jigs. Are about limitless and so are plastic worms.its all in the experience of that lure with the angler using it.
  4. I will tell you something from experience. Fishermen go through stages about lures and fishing tackle in general. First they want to buy something that catches fish. Then they want to buy what the pro adds etc tell them is cool and what they need. And they spend a lot of money on this stuff that maybe they should not. I know I fell for that same line. But now after over 65 yrs fishing I know what the best lures are. That is the lures I have learned to use and everything about them.
  5. I put stuff like stic worms and other trick worms in my jerk bait catagory. I do not care for flukes a heck of a lot. I use them sometimes in the open. Around docks they tend to flip away a bit from the edge of the dock sometimes and I do not like that. its like moving out of the target area to me. I had alot of luck last fall using those straight sinko worms hooked through the end. ation is a bit different but the worm sure last a lot longer.
  6. I like to star with a pile out farther then build them in a line up to shallow water. I will go along with the pin oak we must do not have many of them here. I have cut saplings like you see at the edge of the woods some of them can be real nice as well.
  7. i fish about al my jerk baits on a 6 1/2 ft medium action spinning rod with 8 lb test line on it. i aldo have a 7 ft light action spinning rod with 6 lb test on it that I use to fish trick worms where conditions permit.
  8. I will try that BO i have a 5500.
  9. One more thing about brush a lot of people think you put it down and the fish zoom right in . Brushing is a skill like most other things. And it is a lot of work to do it right.
  10. I have large PVC bed on LOZ made of 4 " pipe works for both bass and crappie. I do not think much of buried Xmas trees they do not last long. When ever possible I like to sink fresh oak limbs the best is the tip tops of the oak if you can get them. But if the limb has enough thick branches I will use it. I drug one into the lake last year with a main limb boat about 6"in dia and 20 ft long. They are real heavy. They go right done no weight deed and they stay put. Crappie do not always relate to brush though.
  11. I do not think they are Doc. But it keep what is keepers in mo. But now and them one slightly smaller jumps in my boat and kills himself. They are really thick in my area. As thick as I have seen them is 25 yrs.
  12. Jeb------ I am not so sure of that. They have taken over parts of LOZ this past couple of years. They are delicious in small sizes.
  13. I did not know they changed it and most of my neighbors do not either. Very good thing to have now
  14. I forgot to ask this but what about those line counters you can attach to a rod
  15. BO the thing that has always bothered me about counting depth by the reel is as your line goes off the reel spool the spool becomes smaller becomes smaller and it would seem to me the amount of line leaving the the spoon every revolution would be less also. Never have to go as deep as you do down there but it has ben something i have thought about.
  16. For some reason deep spooning is not all that good on LOZ Bill but I still do a lot of it. I usually carry setup with me all the time. In the summer I have these certain high spot that will pass over and check out if I am near them to see if some big catfish is laying around down there. in the fall I look for whites and hybrids. But I have a spot about 150 yards from the house that is just off a point and in the winter. There is a mass of fish about 40 ft down out there that is as big as a house. I have jigged a spoon on it a few times. Fish are so thick down there you can feel the spoon bumping off them. It is a wonder I did not snag some. There was a fella out there a couple years back with those exact intentions. I seen him 3 pr 4 times and he only snagged one fish that looked like catfish to me. I might just have been out there at the wrong time. It does not take much cold wind to drive me in.
  17. My those are nice lights. Might be even better turned down. Of course In missouri they are not legal and I cannot imagine myself ever breaking the Laws of Missouri. They are water fountain lights aren't they.?? I Was told however that a submerged light around here do not need to be to bright. They might attack something other than fish. I do not know though as I would never do that.
  18. I do not think I would really be interested in that. i just thought it was connected to the boat show in st louis.
  19. Where is that show at looks like it might be when the shows are up in St Louis at the RAMS stadium downtown. Is that what it is?????
  20. That is a good and often forgotten point AL. I am the same way. I also like a spinning reel that is simple and breaks down and cleans easily. The newer ones could do with a lot less parts. I used to make my own bail springs out of piano wire when I had Mitchell reels. Those were pleasant and dependable reels.
  21. Bass fanatic.... I used to tie all my own as well I know it is cheaper. I think Bo is on to something here as skeptical as I am and I am going to really give it a good workout.
  22. Do not go overboard with spending. I have some I paid less then 20 bucks for. I fish them many days a year for a few years and throw them away. Buying a expensive reel might not be the thing if you do not fish it a awful lot. I have a friend that owns a reel repair business and he has a back counter loaded with expensive reels to repair both spinning and bait casting. I believe its because they are much more complicated and part failure is higher.
  23. Hazbin----- I intend on giving it a good try. It is something different. Myself I use the system of bending the weed guard out in the attached photo. It works. Now I will see if BOs works better. Hope it does.

  25. you know wrench that have taken a few small dogs in this area in the past couple of years. Lady next doors bother in law had his little dog picked up and the eagle dropped him right away for some reason. I seen the talon holes after the vet had sewed him up. They were about 3/4 in long and deep and hooked. I seen one with a small dog one time up high when the ice covered the lake. Dog was still alive and he dropped it and followed it down to the ice. I think they kill a lot by dropping it.
