  1. Also may have a small trailer since we will have 3 coosas. Putting 2 in back of the truck is enough. Never tried all three plus gear
  2. Hello everyone. My bother, a friend, I are going to do a 3 day 2 night float fishing the gasconade river from October 2-4. We are from Linn, MO. The plan is to have a relative drop us off at riddle bridge and leave a vehicle at mile 154.2. (Old whitehouse ferry site, end of cr 8500). I know leaving a vehicle anywhere for 3 days carries risk but was wondering if anyone could tell me if it would be a bad idea in that area as I have never been there. Also any insight to this section of river would be great. Gravel bars for camping, fish habitat...ect. Is this a good trip or should we be looking at a different section of river?
  3. We like to soak catfish in hot sauce for a couple hours then place in a strainer over night. Throw on some type of fish fry ( I like Andy's) and drop it on the fryer.
  4. Wobblehead.
  5. . Yikes!! $600 reels!!? Take a zero off and it still kinda scares me!
  6. The picture is not of me. The Picture is the gigger. You can see the gig scar on the fishes back. The man in the picture showed my brother the pic after having a conversation about gigging. (I don't think he knew how much we smallmouth fished.). My brother got him to let him copy the pic then he sent it to me. This really upset me because this fish came off the gasconade at pointers creek acess which is where I do a lot of my fishing

  8. I'm trying to figure out how to send you the picture but I don't seem to be getting anywhere. I have no computer or Internet service at my home so my iPhone is all I have to work with
  9. I have a picture of a monster smallie that got gigged off of the gasconade near pointers creek. I always been scared to post it in fear that people would think it is me. Plus I don't know how to post pics from my phone.
  10. I have been fishing the gasconade between Rollins ferry and pointers creek for the last 5 yrs and never seen them before. That all changed yesterday when I seem quite a few of them about halfway through my trip. We bow fish them from the kayaks on the big loose creek sometimes. It's a blast. You DON'T want to spook em and get em jumpin when your standing in a yak! Haha
  11. Well we decided to go with the Big Piney so we put in at mineral springs around 8:30 Wednesday morning. Fishing was slow and what we did catch was pretty small. Around 4:00 it rained pretty hard on us. After a slow day of fishing we decided to look for a sandbar. That did not go well. We put in some miles without fishing tryin to find a spot before dark. We finally found a VERY small gravel bar and went straight to bed hoping for a better second day. No fire because there was no wood and we were running out of light. Day 2 brought new light as we caught a couple fish before we even took off. We rounded the first corner and there we were at boiling springs running well ahead of schedule. Fishing picked up a bit the rest of the day but size stayed small. This time we found a great gravel bar with plenty of wood. Had a much more comfortable second night. Day 3 fishin continued to get a little better and started to get a little more size. Started to run into a few people Friday morning. No big deal. Took out at Slabbtown around 1:30 Friday afternoon. Overall the trip was pretty good for being our first one. Fishing could have been better but I guess ya cant catch em all. Think we might be doing a one nighter on the Meramec next Thursday. Can't wait Was gonna post pics but don't know how on my phone.
  12. We are going from mineral springs to slabtown. We have been calling boiling springs outfitter in licking and they been telling us the water is a little high but clear and fishable. Now you guys got me worried!!
  13. Thanks for the info. I will remember that. We are set up for the big piney in the morning! 3 days 2 nights. Can't wait
  14. I have a coosa and the standing is shakey at first but the more you do it the easier it gets. When I first bought it I thought no way I could stand and fish but I'm starting to find myself standing more & more often. It's work at first to balance but as you learn you get comfortable
  15. Thanks guys. I got the book from a friend. Good info.
  16. Hello all. My brother and I have had a 3 day fishing trip planned on the gasconade for almost a year now. We both just got our first kayaks (pair of coosas). We were packed and ready to head out this Wednesday morning then the rain hit. If we don't get to go by the end of this week we will have to cancel the trip due to work. We REALLY don't want that to happen. We live in the Jefferson City are & were going to float from riddle bridge to Jerome. I was hoping someone could tell me how quickly the river drops in that area and would it be fishable by the end of the week. If not is there anywhere out there that is not flooded. We are targeting mostly smallmouth and are willing to travel within the state. Any comments would be helpful. Thank you.
  17. Thanks guys... For the 1 day mermac trip I think we are going to try and put in at river view public access and take out at birds nest. As for the 3 day gasconade trip I think we are gonna try putting in at hwy 17 bridge near waynesville and take out at hwy o near Jerome. Might be a little long but that's ok, got the whole week off. Can't wait to chase some smallies on better water. We fish the gasconade quit a bit but it is the lower end from Rollins ferry to pointers creek. We catch fish but its usually pretty slow goin
  18. Hello everyone. I am new to this site and new to the kayak fishing world. My brother and I both purchased our first kayaks about 3 months ago and ready to start fishing somewhere besides our home waters. I am trying to plan us a couple trips. I was wondering about how many miles you guys fish in a day? I would like to plan a one day trip on the mermac and a 3 day trip on the gasconade in June. Just wasn't real sure how many miles to plan these for.
