  1. just talked to the old lady, she said she wanted to go that way next weekend. hopefully I find something, I've been looking forward to catching a brown all year. It would be pretty cool to run into you sometime Tim.
  2. no, i don't mean naturally native, but I have heard there are small isolated breeding populations here in Missouri. I myself have caught two baby browns that I find very hard to believe that mdc stocked at that size, and time.
  3. checked out Hickory last Sunday. Trout are all out. Must have been fished pretty hard I couldn't even get the bluegills to dare a bite.
  4. i enjoy catching trout, there aren't really many native trout here, and hopefully it isn't the future of all fishing but with greater demand nature can't keep up a steady supply to meet it. I happily support our fish hatcheries. I sometimes dabble with catching native species, but everyone is entitled to fishing for what they like. also Tim are being sarcastic or serious?
  5. walked around jolly mill today, didn't see any trout. even walked a bit of the creek tossing walnuts in to see if I could scare some trout out of hiding. saw nothing but suckers and a couple tiny trout. hope it hasn't already been fished out. (also checked down at conservation access and I couldn't see a thing from the top of the bridge) hopefully there are still some good ones left.
  6. it was, not a lot of big ones though. did get one decent sized one for dinner though.
  7. I saw a big brown a few weeks back at RR. didn't get him to bite though
  8. trout.. ..............did you say trout???
  9. Sounds incredibly dangerous to. I'd hate to run into those idiots.
  10. i'm sure they would be killer. i'm planning on trying some hopper flies. (I am also fishing Taneycomo this coming weekend)
  11. thanks for all the info guys, it is very much appreciated. Phil if the opportunity comes I hope to stop by your shop. ( I do need some mouse flies ). Don't worry guys I am very familiar with the regulations and more honest when it comes to fishing than most people. I never break any of the rules. Of course I doubt I will land my legal limit, I'm just hopping for one or two keepers.
  12. i'm used to getting weird looks anyway (on the water and off) I hope we will get to fish here. really would like to get into some big browns and bows. I know a lot of fly fishers really push around the catch and release thing hard. I only keep b/c my wife and I eat them for health reasons. (plus I'm not totally convinced its good for the fish as I see a lot of c/r fish die right after)
  13. So I am planning to fish at Taneycomo next weekend with my wife, but I have never been there. Are there a lot of public access spots? Also we would like to catch and keep trout, with the slot limit on rainbows and the limit on browns is there really any opportunity for this?
  14. hey Ollie isn't that side of the creek in the photo the "no fishing" side
  15. lol these are great keep them coming guys!
  16. I haven't been in a month or better now. fishing was getting really slow so we decided to stop driving down, did get a three pound channel cat last time though. of course it might have picked up by now.
  17. cool thanks, should be fun to fish Capps when there is actually some fish in it.
  18. yeah trout parks are a bit weird, the fishing is (sometimes) to easy and I hate standing shoulder to shoulder with so many people, but then again its good to see new things and to fish where there are fish. I hadn't even fished Roaring River until this year.
  19. oh lol I see sounds cool though, how do you guys know the stocking schedule? I've been trying to figure it out for months now.
  20. I thought a thread about the strangest things we have seen while fly fishing (or other fishing) might be humorous. As we know fishing gives us a lot of time outdoors and that seems to be where the weird stuff happens. In order to get the ball rolling, I'll go first. One day my wife and I were fly fishing on hickory creek. it was a calm day very mild and peaceful, we had caught a few fish but nothing worth bragging about, we were working our way upstream hoping to hook into some big rainbows. We had seen nobody in the park or the creek that day, the park felt as if it was totally empty. In one pool a good size rainbow rose violently and ate some small insect inches away from where we stood,( though I couldn't get it to take that time I came back later and got him.) As we walked around the bend in river we both stopped dead in our tracks. Ahead of us suddenly we saw fifty people standing on the handicap fishing area. all were dressed up and looking out in the creek. while fishing we had suddenly stumbled into a baptism. Perhaps baptisms aren't all that weird themselves, but to suddenly walk into one dripping with creek water and smelling like fish was both odd and unexpected. Needless to say we got out and hoofed it around the ceremony the rest of the way up the creek. I'm sure you guys have seen far weirder stuff but this is mine so far.
  21. wow really? I've lived in Neosho for over 20 years and had no idea that all this happened down there. where is the festival at? is it in jolly mill?
  22. why do you guys stop fishing so early in the season? over fished and crowded?
  23. so not having been to Bennett spring I'm kind of out of the loop here. What about it makes it so bad? I was planning a trip to one of the other state trout parks soon, should I pass Bennett over? and why?
  24. i don't mind working for them, but last time I was there all I caught was hot dog sized rainbows. does mdc release them at this size? I didn't think Missouri had much wild bred trout. still to bad though I was hoping to fish Capps.
  25. has anyone fished Capps recently? I tried a little earlier this year and didn't have much luck. I was thinking of hitting it over the weekend, just wondering if anyone has had any luck.
