  1. Thank you 😀 it was a good nice one -even if I long armed it a bit, lol.
  2. oh-my-gosh (!!!) it was windy yesterday. Still managed to get on a few fish but wow! Found this one in a little nook...
  3. The general rule for setback is every 3” you get away from the boat you can raise the motor 1” vertically -I think lol. It’s been a while... not sure how that translates on a rig that has as much pronounced rocker as a riverboat. Anyway, a buddy of mine has a topwater (flat bottom with planning boards) with a 20 Yamaha on a hydraulic jack plate. He likes it, but it kinda seems like one more thing to mess with to me. I’ve jacked around with it and the line between gaining performance and getting to high out of the water is pretty slim. I’d save your money. Side note: He runs with the motor clamped to the jack plate -not enough room to bolt it down. This led to a pretty scary scenario last year where the motor almost went into the river! He had a death grip on the thing and narrowly avoided fetching it out of the state park hole lol.
  4. Big, sneaky rocks in the middle of the river can cause you trouble with either motor. However, I’ve ran up lots of shallow gravel flats that are just over ankle deep with my 60” bottom Topwater pushed by a 60/40 merc jet -can’t do that with the prop motor. That being said, I just set up a second boat to run the buffalo. 42”bottom with a bunch of rocker pushed by a 9.8 tohatsu...
  5. Not super familiar with the supremes, but if the boat has rocket built into it I’d run the prop motor. If it is totally flat run the jet. This is based on the 3 river boats I’ve ran over the last 20yrs.
  6. Caterpillar is doing the same thing to get around emissions. Old, worn out units can now be totally rebuilt. The complexities of emissions requirements can be overwhelming -both in engineering and cost. I bought a Versatile brand tractor a few years ago that was a “classic” model. 375 hp articulating wheel drive. The “classic” was emissions free. The company buys credits from the United States govt to sell the old technology Cummins motor. Super simple, super desirable, great few economy. My newest tractor, a 260 horse power unit actually burns more fuel. I can’t understand how hindering a diesel motor, causing it to get poor fuel economy, is saving the world LOL the green police are idiots... ps: Don’t even get me started on new, emissions governed semi trucks…
  7. Yep, the unloading auger’s have to be big to match the width of the header got the trailer done, now just have to get some nice weather to paint it. Thanks, I’ll google west marine 👍
  8. Here is the rig. Bad pic, but you get the idea. In the process of building a trailer for it right now. Should have it done tomorrow and then on to freshening up the boat.
  9. Hi guys and gals, needing info on painting the inside of an older riverboat. Any recommendations on what kind of pint to use? Oil base, acrylic enamel, etc? Might even do the outside. Boat sat in a dock for years and I’m trying to slick it back up. Thanks for any help you can offer.
  10. 20 long (heck, maybe 21???) with a 60 inch bottom. 60/40 merc jet. I do run 2 group 27 batteries up front. Save 10 or 15lb over group 31s. Never have ran em empty in a days fishing. Got a cheapo onboard charger up there to top em off.
  11. I’ve got an 80 pound thrust Minnkota riptide on my 60 inch bottom topwater. I love it! Batteries are under the front deck. No big deal at all, but it’s also a big boat. I used to have a 36 V on an aluminum tunnel hull. In the Louisiana marsh the thing acted like a dang mud motor. 12 volt trolling motors make me cranky lol.
  12. Hmmm, tell me more Ham I might even be interested rested in that 20 wrench. I just keep hearing about people hopping up 9.9s for the buffalo. I honestly just want to be able to run down the white, turn up the buffalo, and take the kids fishing. Can’t do it with my big boat.
  13. Bought a neighbors riverboat. Kinda interesting rig -a “pappys river sled”. It’s got no motor, so in the market for a 9.9 so I can run it in the buffalo -my 60/40 jet isn’t welcome there lol. I’d be interested in other size motors as well. Figure this will be an “overflow” boat for when we have to many guests at our lodge. Thanks, Jamie
  14. A 24.5 brown out of a feeder creek 2 weeks ago. Look how washed out and thin she is. Spawn must be over?
  15. A couple came from Rattlin’ Rouges, everything else was on the jig. The browns were definitely ready to eat with all the high water. A majority were females who were long and slender -spawned out maybe? Sunday’s total was 121 fish. We worked for browns, catching 20 or so. The rest of the fish were welcome accidents, lol. Was really trying to get my buddies on fish. They needed up getting several “picture fish” -anything over 20” (a sort of holdover from my time fishing Lillys tournaments on Tanycomo when I’d hit the trophy area )
  16. Oops, double posted one fish... the boys fishing with with me got on em too.
  17. Fished the White. Great big water! Had an awesome day! The Browns are out to play
  18. I am super interested in hearing about this. I almost bought a talon last week to put on my river boat. I was hoping I could use it to quickly anchor up for a few more casts in prime spots while working my way down river. Can anyone chime in with hands on feedback?
  19. Lol, the one I got from you is the last one I have found. Closest I can find is a tfo 6' rig. Actually, its super close to the loomis -just don't like the handle. Tried ebay, struck out. The sr720 one piece rod has been out of production a while.
  20. Hey, that's not a bad idea. Thank you
  21. This is probably a long shot, but here goes. Does anyone happen to have a G Loomis Sr 720 they would like to part ways with? I'm down to six of them and they've been out of production for a while. Thought someone might have one tucked away in a corner somewhere lol
  22. Took my wife out to try and find her a brown this afternoon. She broke off an 18" a boat length from the net. I was fortunate enough to find this guy 22"
  23. Yes, that was us in the black boat. The white bass came from the mouth of Crooked Creek. About 6 miles upriver from Buffalo City.
  24. Dallys ozark flyfishers has a nice app with daily flows and the swpa forcast. Forecast is close -ish, lol...
