  1. Hi back to you. Glad to have you.

    Finally!!

It would be a thought to consider a slot limit on stripers. I'm told the ones over 20# don't taste that good. They can stock all they want but can't speed growth. We've got a minimum, why not a max? They seem to live a long time, let em'.

    Finally!!

Well in my 3rd season on Beaver I finally caught that 30# striper I've been looking for. 42", just over 30# on the Boga. Only fish I caught in 3 hours of whitecap drifting but wow! Brooder in 45 fow on a flat line! Lots of bait marking. two other boats out spoon jigging. They seemed to get a few whites. WT 58-59 Thanks again to Scott for telling me how to striper fish.
  4. Stump, I was out Friday from 7 till about 10. Miserable with the cold stiff wind and strong gusts. Managed 1 14" spot on a Ned as I hid from the wind. WT around islands was 63-64. Saw no one else after 9am.
  5. Out this morning pulling brooders around the islands. Quite a few boats doing likewise from PC to Ventris. WT 63-64. High hopes, low results. 1 big white, 14" spot and 3# cat. Fished 15' to 50'. Marked very little bait or fish. Notes from last 2 years say I should be on em' but NOT TODAY!!!! T- shirt hot by 11am.
  6. I was out for awhile yesterday too. Pulled brooders in PC. Tough wind to slow troll in. Caught 5 spots 12"-14" and missed as many with the wind. Did mark several huge shad balls out in front but no action around them. In by noon. wt 65

    Minn Kota woes

OK. Got the new Minn Kota Maxxum delivered today. I waited to share this info until it actually arrived. After spending a day online searching for the best price on a motor, I found them almost all priced the same, around $950 for an 80#, 52" hand controlled Maxxum. That was before any tax or shipping. So I was looking at about a grand. I went to the Bass Boat Central forum and did some digging there. I found a post where a funny sounding website was mentioned and I checked it out. Moodeals.com was the site. Motor was priced at $815 and a $35 ship charge. Total $850. I was concerned it was a scam or used motors or something bad but I took a chance. Motor arrived today (5 business days) Brand new and as ordered. Saved $150. Just wanted to share. Mounting tomorrow. GO CUBS!!

    Minn Kota woes

Pretty sure I know the problem and looked like a simple fix, but..... found the part online. $190 plus. Seems too much to spend on a 10 yr motor. My super wife agrees and said get a new one. Searching out best price today.
  9. Hey guys, any one know of a decent repair place for my Maxum? I know of a good one in Springfield but would like to stay near Rogers/Bentonville or even Fayetteville. Thanks!
  10. Windy day on Beaver. Hate fishing in whitecaps. Pulled brooders lee side of bear island. 5-12" spots and 2-18" LM in 2 hours. Clouds left and so did the fish. WT 71.
  11. Evening Dave! Yes I need some more heads. Please shoot me a $$ for 5 ea. 1/16 size in brown, green & junebug. Thanks!

  12. Had my buds down from up north. Wanted to try for stripers so we headed up to Pt. 5 with a ton of brooders. No stripers but we ran into tons of spots out in 30-35 fow. caught around 20 with only 1 short and the best at 17". Lots of fun with several jumpers. Did lose 2 stripers at the boat due to my too tight drag. Sunday we stayed closer to home. Drifted the islands. Not as good with only 3 spots and a nice white. Short day, football was calling. Nice size on the spots was great to see. wt on Sunday was 72 around the islands.
  13. Dan, saw the otters on the point leading to the cove just before the shortcut to MN. Saw their heads and thought muskrat at first but watched them run up the rocks. Otters for sure. Have you tried pulling brooders or shad this fall? I've got my buds coming from Illinois this weekend and I need to find some kind of bite. Thought we might go out as far as pt. 5 looking for stripers. Any suggestions ? Crappies anywhere? Thanks!

  14. Fished hard from Rt.12 bridge to MN. WT 75, light chop....did not catch squat. Tried points with everything. Hit on a plopper on the 1st point and that was it. Tired of trolling but not digging a zero. Watched a pair of otters for some time. I was surprised they went so far into the woods from water. Beautiful morning.
  15. Not a fishing jersey to be seen. My Grandfather had pictures like these from 1940's Wisconsin. Would make ya cry. My goodness, over a ton of fish. Are those Goliath Groupers?
  16. Lance...gulp...you're my hero. Anyway, last 3 trips I've dragged bandits in 15-20 fow and caught plenty of fish but zero crappies and only 1 wb. I guess they are just farther south than I've been going. Also enjoyed some great food at the BBB yesterday. Tourney this morning so I'm in the yard. Anybody scoring crappies up toward Rocky Branch?
  17. 40 years ago, still young & stupid, middle of nowhere in the U.P. of Michigan. Missed the gravel ramp, drove past the drop-off, and bottomed the car frame on the bottom with wheels still turning in open water. Walked about 4 miles to a farm. Salt of the earth fella drove his tractor down the logging road to pull me out. Broke his chain trying to pull me out. He pulled out a stouter chain and saved my bacon. Water in car past the seats but never hit dash or engine. I kept the broken end of the chain as a reminder to NOT BE STUPID again. At least your issue was mechanical and not just dumb. Looks like your engine was not submerged but you have some interior work ahead of you to fend-off mildew. Good luck to you.
  18. Stump, I looking forward for cooler water too. Sweltered out there again this morning with 3 spots ( 1 was nice ) to show for it. WT still 81. I've got my posse coming to fish on 10/7 and hope to have something dialed in by then. NOT TODAY!
  19. Dan, I threw a plopper all around the bridge area and points on the north side or the island. Nothin'. Started trolling when the sun got over the trees. Seems like the wong lure- wrong place. Were you south?
  20. Well my insurance check for the boathouse theft came through. Gave the 4 new trolling set-ups their 1st trip today. Fished 6-10 and caught 10 fish, with 1 keeper spot and a good sized white plus 7, 10"-12" spots. All trolling. Caught em on a bandit 300 and Flicker minnow. The water temp was 79-80. Water is the clearest I've seen this year. Found 1 huge school of shad (the blot out the screen type) in front of Joe's creek. White bass and keeper spot came from numerous passes through school. Almost zero surface feeding all morning. Finished morning with a ned bluegill. If you are thinking about new line-counter reels, the Okuma ColdWater series are excellent. Great to be out!
  21. NICE!!!
  22. If you have no preferred brand, don't forget to look at Garmin. I've got a Bird and a Lowrance onboard but sure have seen some great screens from friends Garmin. JMO.

    Skunked!

Too bad on the trim issue. I missed a couple weeks in July with an engine gremlin myself but the 10 yr old Nitro is screamin' just fine now. Been out a few times with the family on swim trips. In my 3 summers here, I never saw the lake as crowded as it was last Sunday. Constant wake chop from bridge to PC. Lunch at JJ's was good but took 2 hours. Ready to start my crappie quest soon. Should I start farther upstream near Hickory? See ya out there.

    Skunked!

6am-10 am. Out for the 1st time in a month. WT 82. Fished from PC to Beaver Shores. Top water, ned, drop shot, grubs, spinnerbait all zeroed. Points, gravel banks, and docks. Saw no fish activity except carp. Only the 2nd skunk this year. Beaver humbled me again. Only 1 boat trailer in PC lot and zero at rt.12 bridge. I guess everyone else all knew something I didn't. "NOT TODAY"
