  1. Awesome Dan. Itchin' to get out this week. Have yet to master dropping a spoon. sounds like the time is right. It looks like the fish are only 15-20 ft. down. Thanks!
  2. Chris, I just checked with my BOAT insurance and found out the rods are covered and only $100 deductible. I had tried my homeowners insurance earlier. Maybe yours does too. Can't hurt to ask right?

That's awesome.  Is the boat running good again?  What ended up being the problem with the engine?  I haven't been fishing much.

Well after several fixes that did not work, they determined it was the oil pump. Rare for it to fail. Pricey but boat runs better than ever. Cooler temps on the way. Catching lots of small bass, 8"-10" on crawlers & Ned rig.

  3. Had house guests and he wanted to fish despite the heat. Two pre-dawn trips and one evening (bout 11 hours total) results: 18 bass(2 keepers) , 2 crappies, 8 sunfish, 1 sheepshead, 1 catfish. Wt 87-89 ,fished gravel points and sloping banks. trolled crawler harness in evening. Lost something big when I had the trolling drag too tight, probably a cat. A few caught on wiggle wart but most on drop shot or ned rig. The interesting thing was 12 of the bass were smallmouth including the 2 keepers. Saw plenty of brief surface action but could never get close.
  4. Gotta give that point 100 ft of clearance.....Always! Good tip Stump about not following older GPS tracks but that boat was going to have trouble most nights. That float is only in 3-4 " of water.
  5. Good you're back Dan. I've been out of action myself for over a month. After a great 10 day vacation with the grandkids, came back to find my rods had been stolen from our slip. While dealing with that, the boat wound up sitting for 5 weeks without running. You guessed it, now it won't start. Having the carbs rebuilt and hoping for a return to the water this weekend. It does not seem like many are fishing or posting. Notes from last year say a drop-shot on points should get bit.
  6. Still had a few boxes to unpack (only took 3 years). I came across several packs of "Basstrix" hollow body swimbaits. These were big up North several years ago for both bass and walleyes. I've not ever heard them mentioned on the forum. Have any of you tried them on Beaver?
  7. The hot weather makes me put a limit on lots of things. Always stop playing golf when I reach 100.....weather or not I've finished the front 9.
  8. I'm sure Mike you and those you know take care of your fish because you love it. It only takes a few "dummies" who don't care and boom...20+ dead ones. We all need to stop ragging on everyone for the actions of a few. I think we have to let tourney guys police themselves and for them to let the "dummies" know floating dead fish are not an option. Isn't there enough polarizing going on everywhere. Lets not start as fisherman. Just sayin'. If you want to rag on anyone, find the F.....s who stole Vinscott and my fishing rods & tackle from our boat slips. There is some hatin' we can all get behind.
  9. Really nice fish Mike, and it sounds like you did not have to fish deep for them. Slow rollin' spinnerbait on points or dropping down bluff steps?
  10. I've been happy with my HB Helix. If a small size (5") will work I think the basic unit is under $300. Pretty straightforward and clear. JMO
  11. You are a crappie monster. Atta boy!
  12. Hey, congrats on your P/B! Thanks for the report.
  13. Summer tourneys...How about a 3 fish limit? Should try to do something.
  14. Thank you Dave!
  15. Howdy! Year 3 for me. You'll learn plenty on this forum when we're talkin' fishing. See you on the water.
  16. To report it or not report it, based on race, is the definition of a racist. Wrong is wrong. I do understand there may be no other viable occupation so get a license. Lets get back to fishin' talk.
  17. Amen!
  18. Ron, he's not obsessed or stalking. Just trying to get a handle on what some folks are doing in the dark that may require a change in some regs. Just sayin.
  19. I thought I was the only one less than impressed with their attitude. Went there 3 years ago. We had just moved to Rogers and I wanted a new 150 motor. 3 guys sitting behind counter in an empty shop gave me the "yankee" treatment. Never went back.
  20. A real catch-22. If you did report them....for what? No limit on white bass. How to prove they are selling the fish? Rangers/Sheriff do not have the resources to follow them home and watch them for days. What needs to be done is put a reasonable limit both daily and possession. Could we agree that 50 per angler seems more than reasonable? How about 25? Then an on the water stop could have some results. I'm not sure I understand the "not politically correct" comment. I'd sure blow the whistle if they were breaking a law and I could prove it. We all seem vested in this. How do we make it happen??
  21. Great idea. Measure em' all and count best 5. Sounds like a plan. Getting accolades from your peers as you hold up a big fish can be addicting. But the feeling of watching it swim away with vigor is even more so. We just have to get more guys to try it. Replace drama with conservation and sustain a great thing....Hmmmmmm.
  22. Did a houseboat trip on Rainy lake 2nd week of June with same guys for 15 years. Miss fish like these. Nice!
  23. Would guys support a moratorium on bass tourneys for 100 summer days? Makes sense if we can't keep em' healthy. We seem to have an improving bass fishery but we can sure "F" it up. And we are killing the bigger ones. Grrr.....
  24. You tube with a link on OA would be terrific. Hate to miss it.
  25. Had an odd thing this morning. I was very throwing top waters near the bridge. Watched a guide boat run into a school of stripers with multiple fish on for about 20 minutes. they must have filled their limit because they did not make a second pass but jetted off. I continued to fish the area. After about 25 minutes, I saw a large striper on the surface swimming on its side. I watched for several minutes and he finally went belly-up. I went over to see what was up. We was barely alive on top in about 80 fow. He had a hook swallowed out of sight and was pinned to the bottom. It looked like he took the line around a snag and had broken off and was doomed. I tried to revive him for some time without luck so I harvested him rather than going to the turtles. Honest 26#'s on the boga. Bigger than I've been blessed to catch so far.
