  1. I tend to take the mepps over the rooster tail most of the time. I sometimes have a problem with the wardens rooster tails blade When using a faster retrieve and I don't get that with the mepps. I have probably a dozen rebel craws in just two colors. I throw ditch and green craw. I've tried some of the other colors but they don't produce near as well as those two.
  2. I don't really own any "old time" lures but i think a lot of today's methods simply spin from teaching an old dog new tricks. I do swim 4 inch grubs on a jig head (a method that has been around much longer then i have), i still throw a slider worm on occasion though i don't use the slider heads. Throwing a mepps inline tends to work well a lot of the time, and i just recently (way late to the game) started throwing wiggle warts and its a shame i don't have any of the old school ones to compare action or finish with.
  3. the next several days should warm that water up a bit. I just checked the forecast and it looks pretty good with Wednesday to Sunday highs in the 70s.
  4. Great pics Dave...is that last one a mean mouth? I've heard of them but never seen one.
  5. Welcome to the forums mohookset! I'm not familiar with the area you are fishing but i know someone around here should be able to help you out. I'm looking forward to reading some fishing reports and seeing some pics posted real soon!
  6. Got to fish The huzzah on Saturday for a bit. The bite was tough for me. A lot of prospects, a lot of follows and pecking on the tail end of baits but no real takers. I did manage to catch a few smallmouth around 10-12 inches on mix of different lures. The first came on a 3.5 tube jig, another on a rage grub, and the last on a 3/16 football jig with baby rage craw trailer. Not the best results but i'm rarely upset about a day on the water.
  7. I use mostly St.Croix. I have a 6'8 MXF SCV rod i use but i do have a Cara T7 Amistad model for heavy jigging and i love that thing! Falcon is great stuff and i highly recommend them. I also use Yozuri Hybrid in #8 and for the money is fantastic.
  8. That is freaking awesome. How was the fight?
  9. Welcome to the forums momule. I'm looking forward to reading some fishing reports from the Mighty MO.
  10. That's the plan my good man! I've been wanting to get my new kayak out but haven't found anyone to go with and since i'm new to kayaking in general i'd prefer someone be around with me as a safety precaution.
  11. I know the exact bait you're speaking of! I think its the lucky craft live pointer sp? I've seen these up at bass pro and they look pretty sweet.
  12. I'm looking to get out there on Saturday i'm hoping the storms Friday night blow over. The rain for Saturday so far doesn't look to bad Accuweather is showing spot showers so i don't think that will have a big impact as long as the forecast stays that way for Saturday.
  13. It's been awhile since i have set limb lines but we(me and a friend) always used circle hooks and typically we used live baits. Any bluegill, perch, even goldfish seemed to work really well. I don't know how well trebles would work with the kind of bait we used but i could see it working well for cut baits.
  14. i thought about trying some of the lucky craft pointers as well. Ill check out the RC STX baits. I have a few of the RC squarebills and they've been ok for the money.
  15. Let me know if or when you do I'll throw a line with ya. I normally fish out of Kingston access since i seem to have better luck there then the F HWY access. I'm looking to reach out to a few land owners and see if i can get permission from them. I wouldn't mind to take kayak and put in at the beach in Washington State park since I've never fished that section.
  16. i was a bit apprehensive because of the price but i have heard many people say they are worth the price so i may pick up a couple. The Jackall Squad Minnows look really good and the price on those aren't as bad so i might grab a few of them as well.
  17. I dig the old school reel. Great picture.
  18. Good luck to you guys! I'm looking forward to seeing some photos and reading a report.
  19. I sometimes struggle to fish well in April and this year(so far) seems to be no exception. Maybe its the cooler temps after the fronts coupled with water level changes. I don't usually get skunked but i don't do as well numbers wise.
  20. I had a bit of free time today so i decided to go fish Mineral fork for a bit. I got to the access around 2:15 PM, air temps were around 65 degrees and there was a light breeze with the occasional gust that was blowing in a bit of rain. Once i got down to the stream the water looked clear as usual and was looking and running good. I waded several hundred yards up from the access fishing some of the known pools which had changed a bit since the last time id seen them. The last time the water was up it actually extended the length of the first big pool a good 50 feet. I worked them with a pearl blue rage grub on 1/8 ball jig and landed my first fish in just a few short minuets....A chunky little smallmouth around 10 inches in length. I worked the pool for another 15-20mins but could coax another. So i switched to a green pumpkin rage grub and landed another smallmouth around the 10inch mark. I decided to wade up another 75 yards and switched over to a wiggle wart and started to fish it near some larger rocks and stumps and managed to pretty decent largermouth. after that things seemed to have died down and after about an hour and half it was time to go home to the family for dinner! Here is the big fish of the trip.
  21. Thanks for all the replies guys! I'll be checking out some x-raps. Has anyone used any of the megabass or lucky craft pointers?
  22. this is what i was thinking. Instead of the jerk and pause for 20-30 seconds just make a lot of short fast twitches.
  23. I've been looking to grab a few jerkbaits because its something i don't fish often but would like to pick up some skill with. I'm wondering when some of you guys or gals like to throw them. I know they tend to work well when the water is cold but do any of you have luck throwing it in the warmer months of spring and into summer or into fall? and any particular brand that you prefer over others?
  24. Working in an ER i cant tell you how often i see people who were involved in accidents while not wearing seat belts. The sight is most always horrifying and sadly its often younger people that i see. I pester people i know constantly on wearing seat belts and have managed to convince a few.
