  1. Looking for a place to park my travel trailer for the summer over at Roaring....any and all recommendations are appreciated.
  2. Looks like a 0 Hart reel to me....have a few I use and a few tucked away.
  3. Are you sure that is not Dwayne Hadda from the Ft.Smith AR area?
  4. I use a 6'6" 3wt G series Scott....has worked great on that little stream
  5. Tim that is one of the nicest fish I have seen caught in that little creek. Like you I have seen some real monster (in length) hiding in places that you couldn’t even dangle a fly into. The fish I have caught over there don’t really seem to be picky what you throw at them just but those fish are danged easy to spook. My best trip ever was in a November snow 10 plus years ago….caught about a half a dozen trout on a hopper in the snow.
  6. I know this sounds silly but some years the crowds are HUGE and some they are just a regular summer crowd....what were the crowds like today (July 3rd)? Thinking about joining the fray tomorrow.
  7. Those are huge tricos....I remember a time sparsely tied 26 were the order of the day…are pecker gnats still working at Roaring as well?
  8. Is there still a good Trico hatch at Roaring? There use to be a really good hatch ten years ago.
  9. What are the water conditions like at Roaring? Has the water level come up this spring? and while we are at it...what flies are hot right now? Thanks in advance for the responses.
  10. Tell you wife it is just a bear...she has a better chance of being bitten by a snake than SEEING a bear.
  11. Back in 1976 my grandfather and I were fishing Taney and saw a black bear one morning...have seen one over near Roaring River in the last six years as well.
  12. It is what it is....Taney is getting loved to death.
  13. I am trying to find a place here in Ttown where I can get biscuits and gravy for lunch. Hope you all have a great opening day....Terry has asked for pictures...but can someone tell us about the B&G?
  14. Instead of using a bobber type strike indicator try using a tube indicator…they sell some commercially made stuff but if you have any old 7wt fly line you can make your own by pulling the core out and sliding the tube on to your leader material. Sometimes I put two pieces on about a foot apart and watch them as they float down the river…if they twitch set he hook…it doesn’t cost anything.
  15. I looked at the website listed and none of the flies look new or innovative to me…mostly tweaked patterns that have been around for years. The flies appear to be tied using commercially sold hooks and materials that you can pick up from any fly shop or craft shop. A few years ago I “created” what I thought was a new and innovative trico pattern only to find it being commercially sold in a fly shop in Wyoming. Did they steal my pattern? Nope…just two tiers using digging through new tying products and both thought a particular combination of materials might catch fish...but for the record…the shop owner didn’t have any of the flies tied on a 26 xfine mustad hooks.
  16. A thief is a thief no matter the price of gas. Oil companies didn’t make these people steal gas tanks…but there lousy upbringing odds-on has something to do with it.
  17. Moonshiner, About 30 years ago I was in the same place you are but was a kid growing up in western Oklahoma where the only fly rod in our county was owned by my grandfather who really didn’t know how to use it. When I picked started using a fly rod it was all hit and miss for me on casting, flies, etc. but the one thing I did know is how to fish. If you know how to fish the transition to fly fishing will becomes an issue of equipment operation and presentation. There are those who would have you believe that there is some great mystery and considerable difficulty to fly fishing but that is the furthest thing from the truth. So my advise is ask question, google information and most of all GO FISHING and learn as much on your own through trial and error. Good luck and great fishing OTF
  18. I know who you are talking about as well....guy acts like a real turd towards his fellow fishermen.
  19. That is the question that people really need to ask themselves when allowing casino style gambling into their city. FYI, back in the late 80’s the local horse people kept saying that horse racing was the way for the state to pull itself out of it financial funk and now some twenty years later and multiple failures of race tracks Oklahoma has not benefited from horse racing. It is a fool’s errand to think a casino, racing or lottery is the way for a city or state to become prosperous.
  20. There is a lot of truth in that statement. I live in Tulsa and we have plenty of Indian casinos here and I will tell that they have done nothing for our economy or infrastructure. As a matter of fact all they have done is cause considerable traffic congestion and increased the crime rates in the areas the casinos exist. But then again Indians don’t pay taxes.
  21. While they are at it they ought to start just dumping raw sewage into Taney. That little river/lake is going to get loved to death over the next ten years.
  22. Actually I was with a buddy that was chastising a shuffler one day and this guy went and got some kind of game/law official (I did not witness this part but heard 2nd hand from my buddy) that came down and warned my buddy that he was boarder line breaking the law by harassing legal fishermen and what I witnessed said buddy got out of hand in my way of thinking. Moral of the story is making dang sure you know your rights before you go trampling on others. Now at the San Juan shufflers are beaten, fined and thrown in jail for 20 years.
  23. In 30+ years of fishing Roaring I have never seen the river really fish poorly. There have been times in the heat of the summer in the middle of the day you would have to really work to catch fish. Stocking has always been consistent and most of pissing and moaning I have heard over the years were more from frustrated fishermen than reality but I do remember a summer back in the mid to late 90s when the fish size got REALLY small by the time August rolled around. I was told by the hatchery guys that they were simply running out of fish to stock.
  24. No ticket and I bet he learned a lesson. Not everyone had a grandad that taught them about rising water.
  25. I agree that if you see something that is obviously against the fishing regulations that you should say something to the guy or gal breaking the rules. I do it all the time and most the time the individuals breaking the rules don’t even know they are doing it…or they act like they didn’t know. But that being said there are some people who get down right carried away with “citizen patrol” a couple of years ago at Taney I had a couple of guys harass me over what they believe “was catching too many fish”. The actual statement was “nobody catches that many fish legally” These two knuckleheads proceeded to fish on either side of me trying to see how I was cheating. For the record I was fishing a very small tan scud during low water sight fishing and was only catching about six or seven fish an hour. That kind of vigilante BS is not appreciated and will get you poked in the nose.
