  1. Heading over from Fayetteville this weekend. Used to fishing beaver tailwaters, 5wt with 7x tippet, small flies. Any advice to a white river newbie on flies, lines, and tackle? I've got 2 5wts and a 7 Wt. Would a sink tip be recommended. Spending time with my dad so I'm sure we'll resort to spin rods eventually but first id like to try to swing a fly. Thanks for any help
  2. Bump? Found it thanks to the great staff at lost valley canoes. Guess there are decent people in the world who think about others than themselves. Bump that
  3. On Wednesday the water was below the Ponca low water bridge, and lost valley was only renting rafts. Went down to steel creek, and of you're familiar with that area, there were NO Rapids at the launch by the horse park. I've never seen that. More rain since then....I'd be very hesitant to get on that water right now. A good alternative, for what it's worth is the tailwaters below beaver dam. A nice float with pretty scenery and great trout, and even with the generators running it's an easy float. Never made it past the brodge to houseman, but word is the whites and eyes are in there now. Just a suggestion. Be safe wherever you go. Water beats man everytime
  4. Fantastic! Im glad someone's getting those fish that laugh at me!!!
  5. Floated Ponca to Kyles landing Sunday 26th. Shuttled with BOC but floated my own kayaks down. Fly rod made the whole trip, and then when trying to get outta the way getting my boats out of the water left my fly rig and a small spinning reel right on the bank. It was in a maroon case, is a white river 5wt, 8'6. Not very valuable, just sentimental. If anyone saw it or knows anyone at BOC or Lost Valley canoe let me know.
  6. Had to go see for myself. This morning looked like a completely different river. Very still and spotted hardly any fish, even less bumps. Glad I got to have fun with the white bass a couple days this year. Missed out the first three years I lived in nwa, mainly due to ignorance. Does anybody have any other ideas on where to wade and throw a fly for some fish. I have no intentions of keeping the fish, and working in a restaraunt my fishing hours are random, and probably won't wreck anybody's day. Not picky about what kind of fish, beaver tailwaters is just along way from Fayetteville for a few hours. Thanks for any help
  7. Any word if the whites are still down there?
  8. Yes sir. I start at the point, work under the bluffs, up the mouth of that small creek and wade past the first two shoals. Anywhere the water was funneling down the shoal to around 2' of water they were gulping them up. The large "one that got away" hit at the easternmost edge of the bluff. What a beautiful area. I like to go during the week so it's not a war zone with people chunking lures every 15 seconds
  9. Had a heck of a day up Richland creek today! Went about 500 upstream from the bridge. 8 whites and one assumed hybrid that spit my barbless clouser. Lots of fish still spawning and the river had hundreds running upstream. Awesome day and nice to finally start bringing them in
  10. I absolutely know the feeling. I've spent many days on the tailwaters, fish everywhere and have gotten skunked. Last march I caught a 19" rainbow on a streamer...go figure. I absolutely love fishing there, never have a bad time, but could imagine how a good day must feel. But we must press on. Appreciate all the info this forum has. What a fantastic site to stumble upon!
  11. John f52. I tried to get up Richland and failed....miserably, probably got a chuckle outta shore fisherman. I thought about the blue springs idea. Is that reachable if you have a full day? Heard that's good crappie water as well
  12. Kyle r. I kayaked downstream from 45 bridge to the second set of shoals and threw a fly. Quite a few fish stuck in the shallows, but between me am the four other fly fisherman I only saw one white bass caught. When returning to the first shoals, a man and his mother had a nice stringer of white bass with one walleye. I am far from an expert on kayaking, fishing, or kayak fishing but I will say that the upstream paddle is a mofo. If you could make it a one way I would
  13. I fish a lot from my kayak. I do not catch a lot of fish from my kayak. Looking to go to twin bridges this week, and from what I gather here, I should paddle up from the boat launch. Or south, upstream? Is that reachable in a kayak, and or a better spot than downstream from the bridge where the river meets? I promise I'm not out there to pilfer the rivers of its fish, just looking for a place to break my slump.

  16. Cut into 1" sections, poach, remove meat from bones, use meat as you would crab for crab cakes, or meatballs. Use lots of lemon zest because they have an oily taste, similar to mackerel
  17. YAKFM just figuring out how to work my finder and love how much easier it makes my kayak fishing. Can't afford a boat, but don't really mind, great exercise and a helluva good time when you hook one. Any advice you could give me for trolling at depths would be appreciated. I'm see on lots of fish 12-16 ft but I ain't got a clue if my jigs anywhere it should be. P.s I reward tips with fantastic cuisine
  18. Any info on this lake? A few people I know say it's a good place for kayak fishing, but they wouldn't tell a bad fishing story. Anything you got I'm all ears! Taking my old lady out for her first kayak trip
  19. Hello I'm a chef in fayetteville arkansas. I'm limited by availability and means of floating, so whenever possible me and my kayak go looking for fish. Just installed a fish finder and appreciate all the knowledge on this forum. Any tips I can give or get will be posted. Ciao!
