  1. Right on haha!!! I have a magazine article about it and wanted to give it a try. I rebuilt a Garcia 6wt earlier this summer using the same process. It handles small and largemouth bass and trout park trout with no problem. Just another way of "clear" wraps similar somewhat to using white silk that goes clear when varnished. The key to making threadless wraps with the proper strength is the use of permagloss.
  2. BSC was very, very, good, to me!!! Got to wet wade one more time. Hare's ear nymphs was the ticket today. 7 to hand and a few that got off. Testing out a 5'9" glass rod I finished this week. Threadless wraps. Happy with it.
  3. They close the gate to Lane beginning Nov 1st i believe, however, one can still access the park at the gate. i went 6 times last fall/winter. There is a parking area at the gate and you can walk down the hill into the park. I'd definitely be down for some winter fishing at Lane and be happy to show you around!!!
  4. It is different from Czech nymphing. From what ive read on that style they use long rods with short casts where the fly line isn't really touching the water. It is a tight line method and, while the technique i was employing does call for keeping in contact with the line while bringing in slack, it does allow for casting out line as far out as one is comfortable with on the "drift" back. I was using a 6'4" short rod. I have added the link below on what i was trying to achieve. Hope this helps and good luck on your trip!!!
  5. Well the wife and I went camping at Lane last weekend. Enjoyed the great weather and the great fishing. It wasn't all peace and quiet but the camping was interesting. Saturday morning I woke up around 545 to people running thru the campground. They were doing some sort of race. Our neighbors were yelling and cussing at them from their tent which was mildly amusing while I was preparing for the creek. I walked out of the campground to see a Bass river resort van and about 30 kayaks on the ground. The folks who had been running thru camp earlier were now dragging yaks thru the field to the creek. So I stopped and talked to the Bass guy for a bit and watched the race some. I hope they didn't run into any trouble downstream near Vida... I started fishing downstream from the spring about 45 min later. The fishing was decent and the usual soft hackles worked. However, I worked my way back up trying a new to me nymphing style I'm trying to get a grasp of. I saw it done by Oliver Edwards and is pretty much directly upstream in faster water. Perfect for the Lane area. I was using a BH Hares ear and once I got used to the process of bringing in line while keeping a dead free drift and no indicator I was in business. The first fish I caught was my PB for the LP. Made my day!!! I caught a few more and went back for lunch. The wife accompanied me later but she was more interested in swimming and lounging in a chair. Which was fine. I actually did some swimming myself. Dang it was cold!!! Saturday evening the action at the campground continued. A kid from another campsite had fell at the playground and hurt his shoulder so an ambulance had to come to their site and pick him up... Sunday morning was the best time I've had at Lane. In 2hrs I caught 20+ fish fishing soft hackles down and nymphs back up. Ran into 3 other fisherman on the way back up and had a nice talk with them. It was an epic weekend in my book. I love this place!!!!
  6. Glad you got out and about and caught some browns and bows!!!!! Nice!!!!
  7. Hit up tan vat and baptist yesterday morning with a buddy of mine. Although the water was up some and murky it came down and started to clear some by the afternoon. The bite was slow but we both brought a couple fish to hand. We both were fishing our Barclay rods which was cool. Good times and good company.
  8. I'd say Mill if you want to try some new water. I too am trying to figure out where to go on my fall trip. Mine won't be till the beginning of November. Probably 4 days but maybe only 3. I am seriously thinking on heading to the driftless part of IA in the Decorah area. However, i still havent fished Crane, Barren Fork, NFoW, Eleven Pt. I also want to take another crack at Spring creek. So maybe a whirlwind trip thru the Ozarks. Man the Driftless is so tempting though... HAHA.
  9. I definitely will and i appreciate it!!!! Thank you sir.
  10. i know what ya mean about losing a lot of flies there... I was fortunate to only lose 4 flies that day. As to Barren Fork it is still on my list to fish for the first time this year. I usually take about a week off around my birthday in Nov and hit up as many streams on those days. Unless i go up to the driftless area in Iowa, which i really want to do, I want to try Barren and Crane. I haven't fish either yet. I want to hit up Spring creek again as well. Fished it on my last birthday trip for a few hours and was the only stream that week i got skunked at.
  11. Hit up BSC Saturday. Hooked up on 6 only 3 to hand. Plus plenty of minnows. EHC and dropper rig. They were popping at the dry but then would hook up on the dropper. Which was pheasant tails and rainbow warriors. I used my A&F Banty 4'4". Taylor made for this stream. Didn't lose tooooo many flies which is always good. Walked upstream from N into some water I've never been before. Beautiful day out. Slowly but surely I'm figuring this creek out...
  12. It is.. HAHA. You got some private access??? Nice!!! definitely lets meet up!!! Cant do it this weekend but maybe next or weekend after labor day?
  13. Thanks. Mohair leeches in crayfish colors and black buggers tied up pistol Pete style. Floating line.
  14. Caught some smallies n largies in St. Charles county today. Wannabe Ozark creek...
  15. Please do!! Actually Mill is my second favorite place for catching wild trout but you can't beat the LP, for me anyway, on the consistency on which there's a good bite. I have yet to be skunked there.
  16. I was thinking maybe a raccoon? IDK. Actually wading wasn't bad at all but I was wet wading. I didn't go too far though. Past that cabin on the left down to the first bend. I was surprised how clear the river was though.
  17. Had a great morning at Lane Spring yesterday. Brought 10 to hand in 2 hours. I was also trying out a Garcia rod I just rebuilt with threadless wraps. Worked well.
  18. After starting the day on the little piney I went to the meramec to fish below the park then finished the day at the park. Hadn't fished below the park in awhile. Caught 2 below and a few at the park. Beautiful day.
  19. Thank you sir.
  20. Wet wade.
  21. Spent a few hours on the huzzah today. Had to try out a new to me vintage fly rod. Bite was good. Swinging leeches in crayfish and olive pine squirrel leeches that I tied pistol Pete style. I called it a squirrely whirly. HAHA!!! Caught a few on frog and deerhair poppers. Fun trip!
  22. Nice!!! hoping to get down there tomorrow
  23. Partridge n peacock soft hackles, elk hair caddis, mohair leech, hares ear nymphs.
