I was out yesterday, really hot water temp jumped 10 degrees from last weekend, alot of debris in the water around highpoint.I picked up crappie deep in the river channel. I would say they will be active after the lake settles a bit. Im moving up towards maze in the big timber, to see if water is better.
Slab slinger I do respect your opinion and posts but crappie have been off the chain last month. I caught a limit everytime out. Get with me and pm ill let you know where and what I fished with. I know a few guys were going to the point you told me about around cedar ridge last week at night.
I was up around highpoint fishing pockets in back of coves, got frustrated when I pulled down to the ramp and saw how muddy the water was, maybe by next weekend it will clear up
You are right about the cats, water today 71.8 now these crappie I caught were in 13 feet in the middle of the coves and some still had pre- spawn eggs, I cannot figure that out. And especially when they hammer down on a spinner bait. I just cannot figure the fish out this year.
Im thinking there are tons in the 3-5 lb range. As we all know there are big bass but they are smart thats why they get big. Thats common knowledge among us anglers. They are there but I believe a guy has to figure out what they want and sometimes thats going back to old school baits. Thats why I go to flea-markets. I find alot of the old school stuff. Everyone fishes knew baits and the fish see them over and over , switch it up. Thats just my opinion, which everyone has there own.
I actually tried it today my friend andy archdale makes them and sent me a few, its just not for me or maybe I need to learn from a few guys who know the best way to fish the ned. Im always open to learning from an other angler. If I was that great id have a 20 foot nitro from bass pro sponcering me.
I left my lizards behind and believe me wished I hadnt got all mine in pockets in the back of coves didnt catch any small fish, I just happened to try the pockets out and it paid off on a war eagle 4 feet deep of water.but was a good day out before work tomorrow.
Highpoint turkey creek muddy up about 2 feet, all on war eagle nothing under 16 inches. Sorry guys with conditions I could not get the big ones I will give it a go next weekend. Also found crappie still staged in 13 feet of water full of eggs. I was surprised especially when they nailed my spinner bait.took these home for the fryer tonight.
