  1. Started out today with high expectations with the warmer weather. However Mother Nature had a since of humor and decided to provide a some wind. With the combination of high generation and wind it was difficult to mannuver the boat. That said, perchjerker and I had a great day fishing. We caught several nice rainbows on white jigs. When the wind got bad we switched to #4 rapalas. We were fishing just above the rebar hole and down to Lookout bluff. In the afternoon we moved down lake below Cooper's Creek and caught smaller rainbows throwing a gold and red dot 'lil Jakes'. We fished from 7:30am to 4:30pm and caught and released 42 rainbows and 0 browns. Percherjerker thinks it was because we wore our new OAF lucky fishing hats. That's all for now. I got to tie some more white jigs for tommorow. if tomorrow is like today we will have to use sun screen. Not bad for February, wind and all. Good Fishin, Skip
  2. Snow Fly, I'm with you. I have had success with a bit of orange when they first start running water. I want to beleive this is true, but, I don't know for sure because when they start running water I automatically re-tie with the orange scud pattern. I haven't checked lately if other colors work just as well. Skip PerchJerker1
  3. In my more humble than Dano opinion... I have to agree with Dano. I like light brown and sand color. In the summer months I add a touch of olive to the sand dubbing. I have not had much luck with the darker colors. (its ashame because a have a lot of these in my flybox) Years ago a gentleman gave a couple of scuds he called "Peppy Scuds". these were a killer color combination, but I haven't been able to duplicate by blending dubbing. They were a grey/light brown combo. If you ever run across one of these you will have to tie it on hiding behind a tree because it will excite the fish to see it. Tight Lines, Skip Perchjerker1
  4. Here's a trick I learned night fishing for Salmon in Wisconsin. When using glow-in-the-dark painted floats and lures carry a portable camera flash with you. One shot of flash puts a high intensity glow on the float/lure. Tight Lines, Skip Perchjerker1
  5. I have a 1996 1900 ProV Lund with a 150hp Yamaha. I fish all over the country with it and you have seen me many times on Lake Taneycomo. Even though they are a Deep V, you can navigate easily in two feet of water. When I have it fully loaded with fuel and three fisherman I start to drag in 18 inches of water. Many times I have run from Lily's landing to the rebar hole with one generator running or less. I haven't been able to justify going to a Jetdrive for the additional 6'' of draft. You will find this boat adaptable for river fishing or the Great Lakes. I plan on coming down to Taneycomo soon if you would like to try mine. the only downside to the Lund is that with high sides it is a little more difficult to manuver in the wind. Tight Lines, Skip Perchjerker1
  6. I almost had a heart attck this morning when I heard where the ticket was sold. I bought my tickets at that Dierbergs on Monday. However............... I had none of the numbers (as usual) Skip
  7. I have a question about night fishing with egg patterns. Do you use a strike indicator? I've heard rummor of a glow in the dark indicator? Skip Hey Leonard, You talked about going to 3x tippit a couple of nights ago. Are you using 3x tippit on the dropper also? Skip
  8. Hey dogrunner, In 50 years of fishing I have hit every state in the US except Ohio, North Dakota, and Oregon. Outside of the continental United States I have been fortunate enough to fish the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Yucatan, Canada, Phillipine Islands, Dominian Republic, Australia. Over the next two years I have my sights set on fishing New Zealand. My lifetime Goal is to someday include Cuba. I'm planning on retirement within the next five years which should open opportunities for me and the Mrs. to hit some European countries. Living the Dream because life is way to short, Skip
  9. I hate to say it, but I like fishing Taney when water is generating. Me and perchjerker have had some of our best outings fishing from a boat. The bigger fish are more cooperative and the fish seem to be more lively and active. Skip Smith
  10. Hello to OAF. I'm glad to finally be on board and am looking forward to many good conversations. I love to fish all over the world, but, I must admit Lake Taneycomo is like an old friend I must visit several times a year. I can't beleive that it's been a thirty year friendship I have shared with my three brothers. It was over 50 years ago that my Dad introduced my brothers and me to fishing on Table Rock and Bull Shoals. Home is currently still in St. Louis area. (not a bad location to use as a hub for fishing throughout the United States) I look forward to sharing stories and experiences with you all. This forum has me really excited about a new dimension of enjoying the sport of fishing. Greetings to All, Skip Smith (perchjerker1)
