I believe I have seen other posts where "Sunset Amnesia" has been identified as the section that is connected to the fly line. (top half) I'm also interested in why a "Taneycomo Leader" is somehow better than just a regular tapered leader? What are it's advantages? The only reasons that I have seen in postings is that when you make your own with Amnesia+Invisx, etc. it is cheaper. Is it fished differently? Does it make presentation better? etc.

I love this rod! https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/gloomis-imx-series-spinning-rod Was on Tablerock last week with it ... handles keeper+ size with no issues ...

Yes, I have them and use them ... but they are updated about 20 min or so after the top of the hour ... so for example when I checked this morning before leaving at about 6:45 it showed "0" for 6:00AM ... when I got to the dam a little after 7:00 the water was running ...

Your link is for Wednesday which has not as yet been posted for this week. (Tomorrow is Tuesday!)

I graduated a number of years ago (more than I'm willing to admit) with a B.S. in mathematics so I'm a bit embarrassed that I have to ask what does zero mean? The past three mornings I've checked the SPA generation schedule for Taneycomo and it showed what used to be the symbol for zero (looks like "0") for generation up to just about lunch time each day. So I loaded up and headed over to below the dam only to find the water running? "0" used to mean nada, nein, zip, zilch, nothing ... but apparently not anymore? When I was last down in July zero meant NO WATER RUNNING. So what has changed? Has the SPA changed to common core math? Do I need to ask my granddaughter what zero now means? Did the eclipse strangely change something? Did I miss getting a secret decoder ring? Is there some formula that involves the date, time of day, zodiac sign, etc.? I just checked tomorrow's schedule and there is that zero symbol again "0" ... can someone please let me know what it means? How much water will be running in the morning? Do I dare make another run over to the dam with my fly rod and waders only to be disappointed for the fourth day in a row?

Poor pictures but a couple of very nice 20+ inch bows today. Was fishing between outlets 1 and 2 ... both on #18 midges (Black Beauty Flashback and PnP) ... fishing was actually pretty slow but can't complain about the quality!
-
It didn't last long ... I got in the water at 9:00 and they blew the horn at 10:00 (though the schedule said it would be off until 2:00) ... netted 11 in the hour so was going to be a good day ... heavy sigh ...

If you caught it up close to shore, its a green sunfish. I don't particularly care to eat them because they are always in the hottest water and their flesh is ... well not too good.
-
I fish almost exclusively midges (with a fly rod) ... and use a 9' 5wt ... caught this nice bow on a #18 zebra midge a few weeks ago ...

... just a couple of other pics .... 1. From the overlook on 265 ... 2. Also from the overlook on 265 ... 3. Branson Landing from Cantina Laredo 4. Branson Landing - outside Bass Pro looking downstream
-
... took a short video of the water flow over the dam today ... while it is impressive ... our thoughts and prayers are with all downstream ... MOV00352.MPG

Do you need any help ?

They will let you launch if you are renting a slip from them ... I was there today and rented a slip for tomorrow night and asked ... was told I could launch but cannot leave the trailer there so will have to have someone with me to take the trailer elsewhere ... for us not an issue because we are at the Village at Indian Point ... so I'll launch my wife in the boat and then drive back to VIP with the trailer ... she'll boat around to pick me up there ... a bit of a pain but I understand with the water so high ... but otherwise you are correct ... no launching from IP Marina.

I'm headed to Taney / Table Rock again next week and it looks like still no-wading (heavy sigh) so will likely do some drift fishing ... What's the best set-up for a drift rig (for nightcrawlers). Last time (first time I tried drift fishing on Taney) I used a three way swivel with an 1/8 ounce Lindy No-Snag (see pic below) as the weight connected directly to the 3-way ... and then the hook (#10) on about 24 inches of line attached to the 3-way. I liked the way the Lindy smoothly moved along the bottom. It was pretty easy to tell the difference between fish and bottom ... but I lost a couple of them in snags and they are not terribly cheap. (Need to learn were the snags are on Taney.) I tried a heavy split shot about 24 inches above the hook for awhile but that seemed to produce a lot of "false positives" as the split bumped across the bottom. I fed a lot of fish when rigged up with the split and set the hook on a lot of rocks! So ... looking for some recommendations on the best way to lash up for drift fishing crawlers. Do you use a 3-way swivel? What is the best weight to use? How heavy for 4 units of water? Have you tired the Lindy No-Snag? Are there other "no-snag" options? How far below the weight should the hook and crawler be, etc. etc.

Just curious ... why would the MDC request that they run at least a half unit at all times? I've made a half dozen trips to to Taney this year, two of them for two weeks at a time and the last time I was able to wade fish was on New Year's day ... a bit frustrating for those of us that prefer wading with a fly rod ...

I was out this morning early with a Jon boat rental from Lilley's. As many mornings on Taneycomo, the fog was pretty thick in places. I was drift fishing a nightcrawler on the bottom so engine stopped and just floating along like many where. I was completely petrified by a few who were flying up and down the lake like there was no fog and they were the only ones there. A couple of times I could hear them coming but could not see them until they were almost on top of me ... which means they could not see me either. Twice the wake came crashing over the back of the Jon as they swerved seemingly at the last second. Not good. I don't know if there are any regulations for running on Taneycomo in the fog. I'm not necessarily a proponent of more rules and regulations. There are already too many in our lives. But I am a big proponent of common sense. Please, please ... slow down when it's foggy ... this morning was not very enjoyable until the fog burned off ... tough to fish when you are worried about getting run over. What disturbed me some was that some of the boats thundering up and down the lake in the fog looked like guide boats with clients. You would think they most of all would demonstrate good sense on a crowded foggy lake. I did have some success today ... boated a few with one very nice brown ... so other than a rocky start was a good day.

I have a new St. Croix Trout Series 5'6" UL Fast (TSS56ULF2) that I have used for a few months jig fishing -- very, very nice. ($119 at Bass Pro in Branson) Very light and sensitive yet stiff enough for good hook set ... been fishing 1/16 - 1/8 ounce with 4lb test. (Berkley Vanish and Trilene XL - prefer the Trilene)

My spinning real of choice is a Shimano Stradic 1000. I have two of them and love them but they will set you back $180. My second choice is a Pflueger President 6925 which is $59.99 at Bass Pro. One of my Shimano's I've been fishing with for 15 years or so and it's as smooth and nice today as the first day I fished with it. I actually prefer it to the newer Stradic that I purchased a couple of years ago (but they are very, very close to being the same.) I just picked up the Pflueger President and to be honest it fishes just as nice as my Stradic's ... I just don't know at this point because I've only had it a few months if I can get the same 15 years of trouble free fishing out of it ... my initial reaction is I don't see why not. I seems very well made.

Rented a Bass Boat at Lilley's Landing for a maiden voyage on Taneycomo. Have been a wade fisherman for a few years with good success with a fly rod, midges and scuds but with all the water running this week and last wade fishing just wasn't going to happen. Tried a few days off the dock a Lilley's with some success but it was pretty slow so thought I should get out in a boat for a change of scenery and perhaps some better action. Without the least bit of knowledge of where to go, we just went up to Fall Creek and drifted back to Lilley's throwing 1/8 ounce brown head sculpin and ginger jigs toward the bank (on the same side of the lake as Lilley's). We tried to keep the boat 20-30 years off the bank and you do have to be careful around the may trees that have fallen into the lake - but that's were we seemed to pick up most of the fish - around the fallen trees. We boated 20 or so rainbows with one nice brown (see pic). The brown was a hoot - I saw it come out from along side a log and attack the jig - and I mean "attack" - wow! Best area seemed to be just upstream from Trout Hollow to just below Trout Hollow. Perhaps not great according to some of the other numbers I've seen but for us it was a great initial fish from a boat. For those that love wade fishing this was definitely a nice option for when the water is running and we would certainly recommend Lilley's for your boating needs.
