  1. I guess I don't, but hey what do I know, I am a baby when it comes to bait casters, $100 was enough $ for me ! It is just a hobby. If I get hungry I am sure not going to fish for my food, if I do I won't be casting anything at them.
  2. I will go try it again, just to make sure. I don't want to sound like an idiot (too late) Here is my little set up: lews speed spool ss1s hla , line: 20 lb spiderwire stealth braid , rod : daiwa aird 661 mxb. 1/2 oz lead sinker. I don't have one of those fancy rubber casting thingys. There is a slight cross wind here, just now casting across the wind 1st cast set tight 27 yrs. jacked with it a little, second cast 42 yrs no backlash, 45 yrs for the 3rd with a slight cross wind. tried one more really chucked it this time, broke my line, so I must have had a back lash that I reeled over. Anyway I am still practicing, I know that I am green at this. I guess I was just trying to set this thing up and find the limit, it sounds like mid to low 40s is it.
  3. I was never really concerned about distance, but I would like to go for striper, it seem like a long cast is desirable. I have fished walleye where a long cast is nice as well. I am just trying to figure it out. I gather my reel is at it's potential for distance. I recently viewed a video of the curado dc casting over 60 yards ! I will post it if i can find it again.
  4. I am casting just a weight in the yard, 47 yards. A spinner bait, or A rig would be less for sure.
  5. I thought I would grow up and start throwing a baitcaster more, I use these things for vertical jigging and trolling, but I tend to use a spinning reel for casting. I want to fish not untangle birds nests, anyway...fathers day was a good time to buy myself a new reel so I went for it and bought a lews speed spool. I did put braid on it just like my spinning stuff but I went up to 20lb instead 10. pole 6'6" medium fast. I probably have it set up too tight, I can get about 47 yards with a 1/2 oz weight. I haven't measured my spinning set up for distance, but I am sure it will be more. Other than a nice button to release line, what is the advantage of a baitcaster? On my spinning set up I can switch back and forth between various weights and weightless baits with no trouble. It also seems like there is more sensitivity with a spinning reel, that could just be me. I welcome your feed back. Thanks
  6. Don't tell him about the blue tiger #7. Then he will know the magic one😁

You should keep all of them. I guess I would eat one if I was hungry.

I have caught a brazilian drum on a spoon. You can always tell what they are on the graph, those things can feel the vibration of a bait from quite a distance. If you see a suspended fish on your sonar, vector directly for your spoon, it is probably a drum.
  9. Lucky suckers😁
  10. That is a $1000 off I am suprised it is still for sale.
  11. Too late, I figure I will learn it, if not I will put it on a spinning reel. Something new for me.
  12. I have a friend who does that too, Tom D. Do you know him? Good luck!
  13. It don't get more gooder than that !! My grandson is 10 already !
  14. And happy father's day to me. I'm all grown up now.😁 I hope I can run this thing.
  15. Not much top water, only of the gar/carp like action. That little gill was 8", I need to wash my measuring board. Marked several large fish on sonar in open water around the 15' range, I think gar. Very strong sonar reflection. I was looking for deep schools, due to my late arrival, but no luck. I did see some white dots in deep trees 80ft on the DI who knows???
  16. Yes Bill I got on the water late.πŸ˜› Anyway here it is. Lots of gills in the 12ft range, had trouble hooking up, little suckers. Got this one the same dropshot as the bass.
  17. My son bought a Pflueger this time, I have several of the Lews spinning reels of different price points, it seems like the small reverse thread nut below the spool wants to back off on a couple models, it is irritating to fumble with while on the water. I am going to try a small drop of lock tight. I guess I am going to have to grow up and learn to run a casting reel.😁 on my spinners i get good distance and excellent feel with braid and a leader, i just have found not found the same sensitivity with a bait caster. I can't make myself drop a bunch of money on a combo though.
  18. It's fins reminded me of the color of pickled beets 😁my cell phone camera did not do it justice !
  19. I am really enjoying my 4 piece travel pole, it is a Basspro 6'6" medium fast, I paired it with a Lews 200 series reel. It brakes down to something under 24". Anyway..after taking my wife out to breakfast, I decided to stop by Jones creek to see if I could feed the fish. I caught a couple small bass then this guy, I thought this fish was just beautiful !. It was a nice way to start a Sunday, then it was off to sunday school and worship.
  20. Guide = pastors same thing😁
