  1. Thanks guys, I'll give y'all a report when I get back as I pushed my trip to head out tomorrow afternoon, spend the night in Little Rock, then be at Buffalo Point before noon on Thursday. Looking forward to it and will just wing it with all your info y'all gave me. Thanks again!
  2. Wow, hoglaw, great info, thanks! Ok, I just wasn't sure about the ultralite or not, but I plan on bait casting also, along with spin casting with light line. Instead of the 4 to 6lb, I'll switch to 8lb. Nothing in the world beats topwater, and thats all I've heard from others so thats very cool. But, dumb question, what is a Sammy? I do have plenty of chugger, buzz bait, etc for top, but never heard that. Also I guess Ned rig is curly tail, since you mentioned 16th oz head? Thats some great info and thanks again!
  3. Hey guys, greetings from Austin Texas! I started a string in the White River forum last month, but now it finalized that I will be heading to Buffalo Point Campground this thursday for four days of tent camping and kayak fishing, then stay three days at River Haven on the Ouchita River. During this time of the year, can you give me any recommendations on types of lures and flies, as I will be ultralite spin casting and fly fishing. The first day I will plan on shuttling upstream and do a day float trip back to camp. The next day I will start at camp and get picked up downstream, (maybe Rush?). Whatever help you can give me is big time appreciated! Alex
  4. Im on final approach for my trip, as I have reservations for this coming thursday at the Buffalo Rec Area. Can you recommend what types of lures and flies to use there at this time of year. I will plan on only doing day trips, by being dropped off upstream and yak back to camp, and fish downstream ( I guess to Rush) and shuttled back to camp. Danimal, how did you do that last float trip? Thanks again for all of your help on me planning this.
  5. Ok, after all halls' help and advice, this year I will skip the White this year because of the being closer to un-yakable, because I want very much to do day yak trips with gorgeous scenery and nice fishing (fly or bait cast), along with setting camp for 3 or 4 days at a time. What would you thing about spending the first 4 nights at Buffalo Point Recreation Area and Campground? I researched and looks like awesome bluffs and scenery and very cool camp sites. Anyone been there? Is there the issue of low water there at this time or maybe in three weeks? (yeah, I know you wouldn't be able to predict, but just wondering if it really fluctuates that much). Then spend 3 nights at Ouchita Haven to shuttle for a few day trips, however, as I mentioned earlier, I talked to them last month and it was very low. Thanks again guys.
  6. y'all gave me some great information. Its just funny that the first place I wanted to go (White State Park) the water is too fast for yakking, and the other place (upper Ouchita River) doesn't have enough water to yak. Im definitely gonna head to your gorgeous lakes and rivers, and yeah, I'm kinda lazy where I don't want to pack my yak for camping, but instead, just find me a fantasic scenic camping spot on a river, camp there 3-4 days, yak fish up and down stream hoping I can get shuttle, and then find another place for another 3-4 days. All of your information is classic and I could never find that on the brochures, internet, etc, so Im very appreciative for all your help. You guys rock! That being said, Im still kinda lost but just may wing it and head up from Texas and Im sure it will all work out
  7. Thanks for the info Danimal and Clay. I did call Ouchita Haven, and you're right, Jan was exceptional nice and we chatted for quite a while, and her problem there is no rain, so its pretty brutal. Go figure, the two places I want to camp at has one with too much water, and the other with not enough. I did delay my trip until the middle of Oct. I hope that may make fishing/camping/yakking a bit better, but Bull Shoals/White River State Park told me they will fill up during that time with the Fall Foliage, and yes Ham, she did tell me that they will be releasing from the lake till probably first of Nov. Clay I did read about Crooked Creek, any camping on the river you would recommend as a good area for 3 0r 4 days?
  8. And yes, for the record, all my catch will be catch and release.........except when I'm fishing in Austin during the White Bass run, along with fishing the coast catching Speckled Trout and Redfish. Those babies go in my ice chest,
  9. Thanks for the info guys. It's good info and I will re evaluate my plans, but either way, I have a kitchen pass, so my kayak will be loaded in my truck with my camping gear, so I'm going somewhere in the Ozarks for a week. Guess the safe trip is to camp around Lake Ouchita a do day kayak trips around the Ouchita River. You mentioned the Dragover, and yeah I researched that and sounds great. what about the riverside camping there and Rocky Shoals? Yalls thoughts on camping there for a few days of chilling and enjoying your gorgeous scenery?
  10. Wow, thats good (or bad) to know. So I guess that will be still going like that next month? Thats the last thing Im wanting to do. My perfect float would be minimal flow, and stop and fish at few places, while just enjoying the scenery. What are your thoughts about just camping somewhere on the Ouchita River above Lake Ouchita? Or any other rivers? I really don't want to deal with any fast current rapids, as I have a sit inside 'yak with depth finder, rod holders for four rods plus fly rod, ice chest, anchors, etc, so maybe I should hold off on the extra 200 miles to there and stick around Lake Ouchita area? Thanks for the quick response.
  11. Greetings from Austin Tx. Next month I will be traveling to yalls' gorgeous state and plan on tent camping at the Bull Shores/White River State Park for about 4 days, and will be kayaking the river. My plans are just for day trips from there and hope the Park can take care of picking me back up from downstream back to camp. I have never fished there before and wondering if this is a good time of year (week of Sept 12), and recommendations on lures and flies. I will be fly fishing and ultra lite spin casting. After this four days, I will work my way back down and either find a camp on Ouchita River above Lake Ouchita for 3 days or just do a walk-in tent camping at that State Park, and fish the lake and explore, along with driving to the River for a day float. What are your thoughts about this itinery? As much as I would like to kayak down the river and stop and stay at some of those river camps, Im really not prepared to load everything in my yak. Id rather set up a great camp, eat well, and enjoy the nature and scenery. Thanks for any advice and help, as I really am open on ideas. I just want to see beautiful rolling hills and great scenery, while enjoying some nice fishing. Thanks in advance.
