Good Old Boys has an open night tournament out of Mutton tonight. My son and I are fishing it. Haven't been up fishing at night for a month but was able to catch some then in brush and on drops but several boats caught them shallow that weekend. With the full moon I would guess you can catch them from top to 25'. Find bait and you should find some bass. Good luck!

Similar to traditional sonar, the long and continuous red return on the display is the bottom. I was sitting in creek channel bends and the fish were hanging on the edges. The individual red "blobs" are groups of fish. In the first screenshot the fish were 10' in front of boat (numbers at top of display) and suspended 7'-8' under the surface (numbers on left side of the display). With the transducer on the trolling motor shaft you are able to see in front of you vs. under you. Ideally, you would not want to get as close to the fish as this but wanted to get the best definition for some pics. With the fish 20' away the "blobs" are a little smaller and not quite as defined. Hope this helps... It just amazes me how you can sit motionless, scan in front of you from left to right and literally see fish swimming around.

Unsure how the pics will turn out for you but thought I would share my initial thoughts as a newbie to Garmin's Panoptix. This trip was two weeks ago during one of the cold fronts that pushed through SW MO. These fish were all caught on a jerkbait which I was able to see on the display as I worked the bait to the boat. You could literally watch how the fish would react to the bait. This particular day the bait required about a 8-10sec pause and you could see the fish approach and settle underneath the bait. Often they would retreat but caught several fish during a two hour span with two just over 4lbs and one 6lbs. I am thoroughly impressed with this unit and continue to learn more each outing. My plan is to continue to test the capabilities and work deeper structure and timber over the next several weeks while fishing the A-rig. I will try to post a follow up with anything interesting... and hopefully a few more pics like these. This post has been promoted to an article

HA! We had a tough go too but know they have to be biting better than what we found. Best five was only 7-8 lbs. Hoping some of the Pommie regulars can point us in the right direction.

Anyone have a report from the BATS tournament today at Bolivar Landing? Have been hearing the bass bite is a little slow...

Fished yesterday and today from OSP/Hawker to the dam. The heat was all but unbearable from 2p-5p. Did manage to catch a few nice bass in 15-25' of water on points/swings with wind (thank GOD for the breeze... geesh!!!). Also found a couple brush piles that had a few fish in them. Baits of choice were worm, jig, and swimbait. Good luck and great fishing...

Yes, I agree, the faster the release the better. And believe that is one of the main objectives of MLF and TTF. Problem is that most sanctioned tournaments cannot provide unbiased observers for each boat. And the desire to fish "paper" events hasn't gained traction. The big bass events however have gained a lot of popularity and provides a platform like you suggest. We actually had (4) big bass tournaments at a local city lake to raise more money for our championship. They went very well and seemed to be enjoyed by all who joined us. But.... they were on a small body of water during daylight hours. A little easier to keep everyone honest... Like you said... root of problems.

I have fished a few paper tournaments very similar to your suggestion. They are a good thought and work well when teams aren't involved and everyone is fishing against the rest of the field, including whoever was in their boat. This allowed for a competitor to verify what was being recorded. Then you have the problem of making sure everyone had a fair amount of time in the front of the boat, etc... etc... The drama created more trouble than anything. When any amount of money is involved it is very difficult to find an alternative solution that everyone can agree to. As far as Saturday night was concerned I wasn't aware of any dead fish. Granted, I did not see every fish weighed in but feel everyone did a good job of keeping them alive. Appreciate your input...

Go to the Missouri State Water Patrol home page and click on "regattas". Insert the lake, month and year in the drop-downs and search. All tournaments have to have a permit so this is a great way to search for an opportunity that would fit your schedule.

Had a great night on the water with my youngest boy. The tournament kicked off at 6pm and we caught fish consistently until dark. Slowed down for us after that. We hit as many piles/points as we could. We fished from just south of OSP to the dam. Big worm seemed to be the best producer for us. Green pumpkin before dark and black after. Can catch a lot of shorts on points with shakey head/jig/ned/drop shot. Did catch one solid keeper on a spook.

I don't have official weights Mhyde but here is approximate numbers: 1st - 9+lbs 2nd - 6+lbs 3rd and 4th - 5+lbs Three fish limit and big bass was around 4.5lbs.
