  1. You'll find tons of empties anywhere from Hootentown on down this time of year - pick up a bag from the MDC like Chief said or just use the cheapest lawn bags - that's what I do. I sometimes have a big pile o' trash to take home and throw away at the end of summertime James trip (although I usually pitch it the dumpster of the convenience store I'm buying "barley pop" from on the way home). It's unfortunate and unsightly, but thankfully it doesn't really hurt much but the view. Don't get me started on folks actually polluting the river...
  2. If Google Maps and Street View went everywhere it would be the ultimate, but the Street View feature doesn't cover everywhere... Yet.
  3. Just a heads up - it's pretty skinny water at that area.

    Snagging

If in doubt, call. That's their job at the MDC - to sort out what's legal or not.
  5. I've never seen a copy of this book, but now I have to get it and compare. We have lost some access over here due to the actions of some slobs - however, I've been able to get access in several places that are posted by one magic trick - going and asking nicely. It's amazing how often that works.
  6. I've seen him as I paddled upstream from the ramp under 65 - kind of sad to paddle past someone going backwards in a float tube, fish for an hour and a half or two, then paddle back down and pass the guy going back the other way who hasn't made it more than a half a mile upstream in the time you' e been up there fishing. I guess that's dedication.
  7. None. Have one in my boat, but don't use it. for hook removal it's hard to beat the larger curved hemostats.
  8. Well, how did you do?
  9. I saw the plans for this and wish I could have been there for one day's fishing at least, but I had to drive over to central Kansas to see one of my nieces get hitched, then as soon as I got home Sunday I had to drive over closer to Marshfield area to pick up my new retriever and back. Tired of driving a little. Looks like a good trip but that area is known to be lots of 'frog water" like was said. Maybe a different stream next time.
  10. I hate it when folk don't pick up their set lines, trotlines. I cut them down if there isn't a name attached. Anyway looks like a great float even if the fish weren't "on fire". I haven't been over there in couple of years - and I need to make it back.
  11. O.K - Great! I'll have to send you some tip on the Finley later this weekend then.
  12. It's nice to know that years of shirking responsibility to go fishing finally payed off - now I'm an "Authority" on something. Anyway - one great spot to wade is close to Shelvin - check your P.M.'S
  13. I just heard about this, too. Starts Wednesday July 6th. KY3 killed your link - MoDOT to replace Bridge... I don't really go there anymore anyway - except for sometimes me and my son fish downstream for Rock Bass a little. I wonder if there will still be some access for putting in to float back to Ozark?
  14. To throw more wood on the fire... Just remember that when everyone talks about paddling upstream - there's no law against using a double-bladed paddle from a solo canoe. I do it when I know there's a long fast stretch upstream where I can't "cheat" the current right by the shoreline eddies on either side of the river. Likewise - you can use a small single bladed paddle from a 'Yak to maneuver. The canoe versus kayak debate can continue now...
  15. Bloodknot magazine Yeah, the new "E-Zines" are nice because they are free.
  16. I paddle upstream many miles at a time in a canoe - but it is a solo canoe. I do the paddle up and float back trick all the time - I start earlier than most folks want to, or places that shuttle start, so I do what I have to. As far as paddling up from Springfield Lake - it can be done, but there's better stretches to fish.
  17. I've used them in Taney a few times and at Beaver. You're going to make them? I haven't used bigger models but I have had good luck with the smallest model from Church Tackle - the little TX-6- http://www.cabelas.com/planer-boards-church-tackle-tx-6-magnum-mini-planer-3.shtml Of course this is for smaller (Trout and White Bass) sized lures.
  18. Bomber 4A, Bandit 200, Rapala DT4, Norman Deep Little N, and about fifteen others. Just depends on what the fish want that day. I like baitfish colors when the water's clear, and more orange/red/purple/chartreuse when the water is off color - although one of my top producing cranks in every water color for the past couple of years is this one: Bomber 4A in Chartreuse Blush Bomber 4A
  19. Good job - I liked the music (even though it's not my style) - it fit the video perfectly.
  20. That area does get a little traffic - it's pretty easy to wade in most spots. I fish it mostly during the week if I can. And yeah - I don't think I've seen as much stinging nettle than in the part just up from Linden. Must be ideal soil for it or something.
  21. I've caught a couple there over the years - the last one was a couple of years ago on a spinnerbait right where the James pours in at the little bluff.
  22. Yeah - it's not that bad, especially when the water's up, just a nice drop into the "Round Pool." You can see it here on Google Earth:James River Drop into the Round Pool
  23. I haven't been through some parts of that since the floods - might be some obstructions, but otherwise it should float good - solo's, kayaks, and tandem canoes go down that all summer and you really only have to drag when you overload your boat and/or it's late in the season when the water is super-skinny.
  24. I remember seeing those when I was a little kid - haven't seen one in a long time.I know someone who might know all about it - http://www.blogger.com/profile/05227788765970706674
